After failing to get a contract offer from the Kansas City Chiefs, Bobby Abare is headed back to school.

To coach.

Abare was a rookie mini-camp invitee for the Chiefs back in May but the former Yale University All-American linebacker will now become the linebackers coach for Wagner College in New York.

If you recall, Abare was one of the 34 first and second year players invited to the Chiefs mini-camp on May 8-10 on a tryout basis. He wasn't one of the twelve undrafted players to which the team offered contracts.

Per Wagner's head coach, Frank Hameline, Abare's experience and smarts should help him in his new career on the coaching side of things.

"We’re thrilled to add Bobby Abare to the Wagner program. His passion and knowledge of the game will be major assets and I think he is well-equipped to translate that success to our players."

His experience on winning ball clubs shouldn't hurt either. In high school, Abare's teams went 50-0 and won four state titles. Wow. And I thought my alma mater was impressive. He also won a ridiculous amount of awards while at Yale.

If Abare's looking to make it to the professional ranks, then he's picked a position with a good pedigree. The man he's replacing at Wagner just left to head up the Seahawks secondary.

Abare will also be pursuing a Master's degree while at Wagner College.

A player who quickly turned up a job in coaching and has a history of success of special teams? I'm surprised he wasn't offered a deal with the Chiefs.

For those of you happen to have bosses who don't understand the importance of blogging in the workplace, here's the gist of the 34 second message:

I'm about to launch my new official website called superdj56.com in the next two. By July 4th it should be up and running. I want to get involved with you and I want you to get involved with what I'm doing football-wise and off the field.

Johnson's name hasn't come up much in the media lately, which for the offseason is a good thing. After the jump I've attached a few stories where we've talked about DJ as of late.

June 19th: Chiefs LB Derrick Johnson: 'Change is good'

"Change is good, especially for a team that's been losing for the last two seasons. (After finishing) 4-12 and 2-14, we need a change. We had developed a habit of losing, and we have to turn that around.''

"This is going to be his best scheme. It’s definitely weakside linebacker-friendly. It can exploit the talent that he has. Everybody knows how talented and fast he is.
