Key point (or only point really) Discussions to include Garrett Jones in the Joel Hanrahan trade never progressed very far because "the Pirates really valued Jones highly," a major league source told Cafardo.
Since there is some time to burn before the Bucs game today, I thought it would be fun to chat about the guys playing early games in the minors. Start off with the GCL team. Allie had a good day at the plate going 2-4 with a double and his first career homer. Tyler Glasnow had a very strong 4.1 innings of work. He gave up only 2 hits and 2 walks and struck out 6. Impressive work by the big 6'7" right hander. Would love to hear what kind of velocity he was showing today. All other action in the system continues later on this afternoon.
Alen Hanson is #1 on this weeks BA Hot Sheet! Article talks about his season being legit and him skyrocketing to #40 on their list. Jeff Locke also gets an honorable mention.
They signed Joe Nathan today for 2 years and an option. Was really holding out hopes that we could have flipped Hammer for one or 2 of their higher end prospects.
Just one scout's opinion, but wow is that good to hear.
It's like they knew I was coming... The ballpark is awesome. The Orioles are awful. I was in the RF bleacher seats. The crowd tonight would make Bucs game of the last decade look like sellouts. Had a good time at the game overall. If you are in town and want to have some drinks before the game, go to the bar next to Pickles. $2 Natti Boe's, and 2 for $5 Bud Light/Coors Light. If anyone is in town and plans on going to a game Friday or Saturday, shoot me an email (on profile) and we can meet up for a beer before the game. Oh yea, forgot to mention, JR was the temporary manager. This game was just like watching the Bucs when he was in charge.
Just read a pretty good article on ESPN (imagine that) regarding top prep pitchers losing velocity and overall "stuff," specifically speaking to Tim Alderson's forgettable 2010 season. The piece...
