Sarcasm Detection Formula

OK, It kills me that I even feel the need to post this, but we all know it is long overdue. I call it my Sarcasm Detection Formula (SDF for short). It's quite simple and should only be used by those that can't detect sarcasm using their own inherent intelligence. Here goes.

If: The statement comes from intelligent, insightful person who has shown knowledge of the subject in question in the past. AND The statement would be instantly refuted by 90% or more of all intelligent people. THEN IT'S SARCASM.

Like I said, simple. If you can't tell on your own, just use the formula and it will probably save you some embarassment.

Where does Kobe REALLY rank?

Most of us know that Kareem is the all time leading scorer in NBA history with 38,387 points. You also may know that Michael Jordan and Wilt Chamberlain share the lead in Points per Game at 30.1. Kobe Bryant happens to be 10th on that list at 25.1 points per game, a fact that many "haters" like to point out.

However what if we apply the "tempo-free" method? (Thanks Dexter Fishmore)

OK, maybe not tempo free. How about coaching free. What do I mean? Check below the jump.

Here is a chart that shows the PPG leaders in order from left to right in blue. It also shows in red the all time leaders adjusted to Points Per 48 minutes. Notice the differences. Kobe now moves from #10 to #2 behind Michael Jordan.

Of all of the players on that list, Kobe is the only one to come off the bench for his first two seasons. He averaged 15.5 minutes per game in his rookie season and 26.0 his second season. It is also important to note he is the only player on the list to have played most of his career with Shaquille O'Neal and we all know how eager he was to give up the ball. (Interesting side note is that #3 and #4 all time in PP48 minutes are Baylor and West, who played most of their careers together, as Lakers of course. Very, very impressive)

Throw out Kobe's rookie season of 15.5 minutes per game and he jumps to 33.4 Points per 48 minutes, a solid 2nd place by himself. Anyway I am sure the haterade will soon follow, but I thought this was interesting food for discussion. If nothing else the fact that #2,#3,and #4 all time are Lakers is quite interesting.

Let me know what you think....................

Tempo free Boxscore

A note from Nate (yes, I can edit or hijack these posts myself!) Anyhow: This tempo free boxscore offers some pretty good insight to the game and is pretty much all about the Nuggets. Check it out.

This is a "tempo-free" boxscore as posted on Silver Screen and Roll by "Dexter Fishmore". He posts this after every game and also posts "cumulative" stats for the series after each game as well. It is a great way to get the feel of the game without the bias of typical statistics. There is obviously some homerism in the post, but I don't know how to link to the "statistics" only. There are also some interesting statistics on the Nuggets 3 shooting guards. Here is the link, take a look, it usually shows interesting stuff.

[Ed. note: A great idea by pslakerfan. Lakers fans, get to know each other a little bit. I'll be adding my own story to my profile in the next couple of days. pslakerfan, thanks for getting this ball rolling! -Josh]

Just curious since we are all new here. Where is everyone from? What is your story, how did you become a Laker fan, where are you now, etc. Any interesting Laker related stories, are you a season ticket holder, casual fan?

I'll start.

I'm 33 married, one kid, living in Palm Springs area (hence the name pslakerfan). I grew up in the greater LA area and became a Laker fan in the mid 80's. I followed the team throughout the 90's and really became a serious (blogging, going to games regularly, etc) fan in the 00's. Is there a good way to say 00's yet? Anyway I got my name on the season ticket list during '04 season and got my season tickets beginning in '06-'07 season.

I live a few hours away so I don't get to too many games, but I love it when I do. I was at the game against Phoenix in Game 4 of '06 playoffs when Kobe put the dagger into the Suns in OT. What a game! My wife was 9 months pregnant at the time and my daughter was born a week later (right after losing Game 7, ughhh). She (daughter) is exactly one week younger than Kobe's youngest who was born right after Game 4.

Anyway that's my story, what's yours?
