PSU Rugby Update: Great Success for Women; The Men... uh...
via Bitsy Cairns
It might not be the most popular sport on Penn State's campus, but rugby is something that PSU has been very good at, and for quite a long time.
While the Men don't have any national championships to their name (to be fair, PSU Berks won a D-III title in 2010), they have had their share of All-Americans, a current starter on the US National Team (I believe he's still on the team, anyway), and 6 runner-up finishes. But, they are a perennial playoff team, and are usually one of the top, if not the top, eastern team.
The women, however, have a much more illustrious history. Since the onset of Division 1 women's rugby championships in 1991, PSU had (up until this weekend) appeared in 15 out of 21 finals match ups, won 6 of them, and only failed to make the final once since 1995. They've been a top-3 finisher every year since 1993. Frankly, you could make the argument that the Lady Ruggers are the most historically dominant team on campus.
Over the past two weekends, both the Men's and Women's rugby teams' seasons came to an end. It went better for the Women than it did for the Men... much, much better.

So, these sweet as hell Amare Stoudemire headphones are on a ridiculous sale right now on Newegg. 55 bucks normally, but enter the promo code EMCJJKF26 and you get 40% until 11:59 PM tonight (pacific time). I guess that'd be 2:59 AM eastern time. Comes out to like 33 bucks. Not too shabby, and I think they look pretty sharp.

Miami booster provided "millions" in benefits
"At a cost that Shapiro estimates in the millions of dollars, he said his benefits to athletes included but were not limited to: cash, prostitutes, entertainment in his multimillion-dollar homes and yacht, paid trips to high-end restaurants and nightclubs, jewelry, bounties for on-field play (including bounties for injuring opposing players), travel and on one occasion, an abortion."
Like the fanshot below me said, you've got to feel bad for Golden walking into a situation like this...
UDFA Signing List by team
Far from comprehensive but the most complete list I've seen in one place so far.
Not to steal Mike's thunder, but Colasanti got and offer from the Colts, some guy named "Brett Brackett" (surely they mean Brent) got an offer from the Dolphins, and our old friend Pat Devlin was signed by the Cardinals. According to Facebook, Lou Eliades also got an offer from an NFL team, not sure who though just yet.
Just click the "under 21" link
It's SFW, but needs the audio to be fully enjoyed, and if your boss walks past you, he might give a strange look.
Also, to Mike: the bar has been set high for your future microbrewery's website. You now know what you need to top.
Well, looks like Iowa's winning the B10 this year. Why should we even try?

It's a David Jones special, so who knows. But still, if this comes to pass, who saw THIS coming?
Happy 36th Birthday, Christina Hendricks!

A look at our old friend, Phil Humber
He's having a pretty decent season so far, and this article peeks into what exactly he's changed.
HATE WEEK! PITTSBURGH STILLERS
(Over at the SBN Penn State blog, Black Shoe Diaries, we used to run this feature called HATE WEEK, a semi-tongue-in-cheek preview of that particular week's opponent. Being that a victory on Sunday would be the biggest Jets win in my 23-year-old existence, I figured this would be a good time to bust it out. I hope I do the originals justice. Enjoy!)
It’s one of the best Mondays ever for Jets fans around the world, fresh off of sweet, sweet redemption against the Belicheats. We’re now headed into the AFC Championship game for the second year in a row, making Rex Ryan 2-2 in that department. He’s 0-1 getting beyond this step, though, and standing between him and the Jets’ first trip to a Super Bowl since Broadway Joe—the Pittsburgh Steelers. They bring with them a whole new slew of things to HATE HATE HATE as we gird our loins for Sunday’s showdown. Let’s begin.
The Breakdown:
WHO

Steely McBeam and the guys… hard at work.
Source: Steelers PR Department
WHO: The Pittsburgh Steelers, or Stillers if you’re from the Pittsburgh area and have that distinctive speech impediment accent. Finishing the season at 12-4 and fresh off a come-from-behind (pause) win over the Ravens, their only regular-season blemishes came to the aforementioned Ravens, the Saints, the TEAM NAME REDACTED, and our beloved Jets—all playoff teams. Ask any Stillers fan about that loss, though, and you’ll be cut off by something sounding like "YINZ LUCKY THAT TROY WAS OUT THAT’S THE ONLY REASON YOU WON HERE WE GO STILLERS HERE WE GO." I didn’t know he played special teams, too.

So, "We are ND" was bad, and that UGA promo was pretty terrible, but this has to be right up there in those ranks of amazing.
Chet Haze (Hanks), Tom Hanks' son, does this jNW version of Wiz Khalifa's Steelers tribute song "Black and Yellow," "White and Purple."
(Sidenote: I actually don't think that Indiana video was as bad... they at least don't seem to be taking themselves as seriously as the ND and UGA videos... or this one.)
Before this place falls into oblivion over the TB/Pitt stuff
Looks like we have some sirens!!!!!
So, I had no idea that this was going to be on my ballot yesterday, but I feel like I was still able to make informed choices.
Naturally, I voted for the Green Party candidates for MSU's board.

Dominique Easley threatening to transfer from UF
But seriously, if he's comparing himself and 2 other incoming freshmen (who have yet to play single second of actual meaningful college football) to Bosh/Wade/LeBron... I might be okay with missing out on this kid.
Floyd, too, if he's on board with the analogy. Oy.

Guess who turns 18 today!
Now you guys guy (singular) , Fugi, can at least have a legal obsession.
Royster trimming weight
As per his twitter.... time to worry? I know there was a lot of "OMG WHY IS HE GAINING WEIGHT THIS OFFSEASON?" around here. Guess this might explain why he didn't look as great as other guys at Life for Life with that extra 12 pounds he was carrying?
Then again, I don't know much about how high-level athletes respond to weight gain/loss like that.
Kevin Newsome plays the piano, apparently.
June is the WORST month. Ugh.
It's Christina Hendricks' 35th birthday!
I don't think much else needs to be said.
[NAME REDACTED]'s Birthday!!!
If we change the title of his Wikipedia entry to "[NAME REDACTED]", how long do you think until the WikiPolice change it back??
Lady Ruggers may lose '10 MARFU Title
Confusion over a transfer's paperwork and eligibility. It would be a shame to see them lose the title over something like this.
The fact that the MARFU president says it seems like an honest mistake is promising, though.
Need Help with a Mock Draft
So here's the thing: Gang Green Nation is doing a community Mock Draft, and having recently moved to the UP of Michigan, I took the Packers. It's my turn to pick.
From what I saw and read last season, you have just about no offensive line and your pass rush needs help.
Many of the usual top pass-rushing and OL prospects are gone, but here are the notable ones left:
Jerry Hughes (DE/LB, TCU)
Mike Iupati (OL, Idaho)
Everson Griffen (DT, USC)
Charles Brown (T, USC)
So those are the guys I'm leaning towards at the moment. I'm most likely going to select Hughes, though many could make a strong case for Iupati. I just threw the other 2 names out there as people that have some buzz around them who tend to be well thought of. Thanks!
UPDATE: Ended up taking Iupati. Figured it's more important to protect your (franchise) quarterback than to get after the other team's quarterback.
Royster Injures Knee, could miss '10
Happened during last evening's practice, video was posted by Digital Collegian this morning.
The Knee-Hating Gods return with a vengeance... Poz, Lee, Mauti, and now it moves to offense... sigh.
Clyde's 65 Today
Editor's Note: Woo!
He's eligible for Social Security now! (Or does that kick in when you're 62?)
Either way, happy birthday!
Going to steal some highlights from the comments:
