Bloody Elbow Dana Already Has One Champ He Can't Market, Don't Need Another

The reason Lyoto Machida is not getting a title shot is Anderson's Silva's poor ppv buy rate.  In my book, Anderson Silva is the best fighter in the world today.  Period.  But the guy can not headline a card and get decent ppv buy numbers.

I believe the Silva v. Cote ppv got something like 300,000 buys.  GSP v. Penn was well over $1,000,000.

Having Machida as light heavy champion is not an appealing financial prospect for the ufc.  He would be yet another Brazilian based fighter who does not really speak English.

Indeed, Machida with his fighting style issues would be less of a draw than Silva.

Bloody Elbow AKA Destroys Grapplers (It's Own).

In case you've been in a coma for the last couple years, we've all heard about the American Kickboxing Academy (aka AKA).

AKA has literally destroyed at least a couple of fighters, including Josh Koscheck and Joh Fitch.  AKA takes these great grapplers and tells them they are kickboxers.  Both of these guys brag who they only working on striking now and not grappling.

And so like any strikers, both Kos and Fitch have a punchers chance.  But that is all.  And did everyone see how both collegiate wrestlers got pummeled by "wrestler" GSP?

If Damien Maia took up with AKA, they would tell him to drop all the bjj and simply kick box.

We saw the results of this AKA strategy again tonight.  Koscheck made no effort to use his wrestling.  Instead, it's all how great he is at striking.  Well, look what happened.

Bloody Elbow Dear Mac Danzic, Being a Vegan Destroys mma career

The alleged health benefits of being a "vegan" are all unproved and, indeed, are just pure quackery.  Nevertheless, you have been suckered into this odd lifestyle.

Well, I really hope you and your vegan buddies (probably a bunch of smelly hairy hippies) enjoy yourselves.  But you do realize you're kissing your fight career good bye?

You will never succeed as a top level mma athelte operating with the silly vegan diet.  You're essentially going in to every bout with one hand tied behind your back.  That's why you've dropped two fights in a row.  You're body is weak.

Until you give up this sillyiness prepare to lose again and again.

Bloody Elbow Thiago Alves & Ken Florian: Should have to avenge losses

Both Thiago Alves and Kenny Florian appear to be getting title shots without having to avenge significant losses.  In Florian's case, he got his ass kicked by Sean Sherk.  Alves got TKO'd by Jon Fitch.

Neither guy should get a title shot unless the avenge those losses.  Why is Alves ready to fight GSP if he can't even get passed Fitch?  Answer: he's not legit at all unless he can beat Fitch (who GSP destroyed).  Similary, Florian does not deserve to compete for the LW championship unless he shows he can get by Sherk.

If Kenflo and Alves have really improved, let them prove it.  Neither guy deserves a title shot under these circumstances.

Bloody Elbow Book Review: "Blood in the Cage", Don't Waste Your Money

I'm an avid reader, a huge mma fan and a former BJJ competitor.  So I was psyched to see a book allegedly about the foundation and history of MMA.

Well, it was a quite a disappointment.  In reality it's a biography of one time UFC light weight champion Pat Miletich.  For the youngsters, Miletich was a pre-Zuffa, pre unified rules, light weight "champ" at 170 pounds.  Miletich also runs a fight camp out of Bettendorf Iowa which produced Matt Huges and Tim Sylvia.

Have you ever wondered where Pat Militech went to elementry school?  Jr. High School?  High School?  How many brothers Militech has?  What the brothers are doing?  How Militech lost his virginity?  No?  Well me neither!

It's like if you wrote a story about the history of baseball that was disguised autobiography of a Red Sox first basemen that played from 1923 to 1926 that no one gives a shit about.

The full title of the book by L. Ron Wertheim is "Blood in the Cage: Mixed Martial Arts, Pat Miletich, and the Furious Rise of the UFC".  See how Miletich's name is kind of obscured by it's placement after the colon.  Wertheim obviously wrote this biography of Miletich and the publisher said to him: "Are you fucking kidding?  Who gives a shit about Pat Miletich?"  So he tried to disguise the book as being about the rise of mma.

Any way, I fell for it.  You don't have to!

Bloody Elbow BJ's Downfall: Ego!

BJ's ego is his worst enemy.  Think of BJ's camp.  Training in Hilo Hawaii with his brother?  I mean WTF?!?!?!?  There's a reason that guys flock to Greg Jackson's camp in New Mexico.  But BJ just thinks training with his brother is cool.  Stupid.

GSP had a very sophtisticaded game plan.  The idea was to ruin BJ's boxing by stiffening up his shoulders by making BJ exchange in a wrestling match.  There's no way BJ's brother thinks of shit like that.

Again, it's bj's ego that destroys him.
