House Of Sparky ASU Football Recruiting Talk - Revised 1/7/2010

Putting up this post so we can discuss the upcoming recruiting class, gets updates when we get a new commit, and what anyone is hearing about some of our prospects.  My personal opinion is that this class has the makings to be very good or very poor depending on a few key recruits.  I have noticed that there have been a lot of recruits that have looked and narrowed their decision to ASU and another school and have more often than not chosen the other school. Heres to hoping that DE can do some serious closing in the next couple of months.

Here are the commits we already have:

George Bell, WR - 6-3 with 4.4 40 sounds pretty good to me.  I also heard he used to be a lockdown CB too

Josh Fulton, TE - Not going to be a Miller but anything is better than we saw this year.  Also an in-state guy so I am glad he stayed home.

Kevin Anderson, Mike Willie (JC) and Randy Knust,  WR - All over 6'1" and under 4.5 40

Taylor Walstad, Deantre Lewis, Carl Bradford, and Damian Williams, RB - Dont seem to be gamebreakers but depth is needed.  Walstad is another AZ guy and our first commit.  Bradford is more of a fullback at 6'1" 230

Nduka Onyeali, DE - 6'1" 240 and runs a 4.5-4.6 40.  Just recently named second team high school all american.

Jordan McDonald and Joita Te'i DE - McDonald is a local kid that has good size at 6'4" 215.  Would like to see him redshirt to put on some weight.

Devan Spann, CB - Playing for one of the best teams in the nation.  Hopefully he can bring his big name teammates this year and next.  There are some huge recuits that would be nice additions to the Sun Devils.

Chris De Armas and Sil Ajawara, OG; Aderious Simmons, Tyler Sulka, and Jamil Douglas, OT - A lot of these kids are big with Simmons and De Armas being teammates at a Cali JUCO.  Douglas and Sulka will need to put on about 20-30 pounds.

Here are the major prospects that would greatly help this program:

Jackson Jeffcoat, DE - I think we might be a long shot at getting him but hopefully he wants to follow in his dad's footsteps. Visited ASU

Hayes Pullard, MLB - He would be a nice pickup since he could start the Crenshaw HS to ASU since we are recruiting about 5 others from their team including the #1 RB in the class of 2011.  Visited ASU

Marquis Flowers, S - AZ kid that would really help this program.  I think he could come in and start right away.  Really hope he becomes a Sun Devil.  Visited ASU

Other pretty big prospect - Eric Dargan - S, Kemonte Bateman -  WR,  James McConico - RB, Soma Vainuku - LB, Kain Colter - QB, and John Cullen - OT.

Hope this gets us started and we should be hearing shortly about some commits coming.  Please update if anyone hears anything new.

House Of Sparky ASU lands 7'2" center from Canada

Just saw on Scout and Rivals that ASU has signed a 7'2" 245lb kid from Canada for next years class.  I have been trying to find more information on him but I know he went onto a 2 year Mormon mission already so he should be good to go next year.  Rivals says the kid has a huge upside so hopefully along with the signing of the 5 star Kaela King ASU should be back to really good in a year.

Nice work Herb!!

Bless You Boys Possibly Great news!!

Saw this article on MLB.com and really liked what I read.  It is a great sign that since 1995 in the AL Central the team who is in 1st place on June 1st has made the playoffs every year but one.  I really believe we have what it takes to stay at the top.  Hope this stays true and we get to watch our Tigers in the playoffs again this year.

Pride Of Detroit This is scary/funny

ON ESPN.com they are running a poll of who will have a better NFL career.  The poll options are Crabtree,  Moreno, Sanchez, Staffod, and Wells.

Matthew Stafford is in dead last with only 11%.  Now I know it is early in the voting but the more staggering stat is that in the state of Georgia right now they have two players tied for the most percentage points.  Moreno and Crabtree.  Stafford is 11% behind them.  I know every state is always really biased when it comes to these votes.  I am really shocked that Stafford not only was last on the poll but he was the 3rd highest in his own college state.

IMO,  I dont even think that Moreno or Wells are even going to be that good in the pros.  I think (and I might be reading into this more than I should) but it speaks volumes about the lack of confidence the fans have in Stafford.

Know tell me this, if Aaron Curry's name or even Jason Smith's name was on this list they would be the overwhelming winner by voters.

***I do realize that this is a poll for just QB,RB, and WR.

Pride Of Detroit Sean's post Re: Steroids and drugs

If these reports are true, I need some thoughts as to what this will do to these players draft status and how this could effect the Lions.  I have no idea if these reports are true and don't mean for this to criticize these young kids lives but I think there are some valid questions that come up because of this report.  Please give me your comment on the bullet points.

  • With all the problems going on right now with the league and steroids in general how much is this going to affect these players draft positions?  How far does Davis, Cushing, and Matthews fall in this draft?
  • Does Raji fall enough because of this report that we could possibly get him at 20?  I know this is a bit unrealistic but it possibly could happen if coaches feel he is possibly a "character" issue.
  • Since these tests were done before these players are technically in the NFL are they going to be subjected to the league 4 game substance abuse suspension?
  • If these reports are in fact true and you were the Lions management.  Would you think twice about drafting any of these players?

My opinion is that seeing some of the past/present  NFL players who have been in trouble before the NFL draft with drugs generally have not turned out to be great locker room guys for teams and tend to continue there old ways.  I believe they can and most likely will change.  With that being said, this is probably the most important time in these players lives/careers so why the heck would they risk it by doing drugs.  That to me is a big question mark.  Raji and Davis have the most to lose but I would absolutely take Raji at 20 and Davis at 33.  However, I do not think that if available I would take Matthews or Cushing at 33.  I think I would pass. Thoughts?

Pride Of Detroit Peppers for 2nd rounder??

NFL.com is reporting a posible trade between the Pats and Panthers in which Carolina would get a 2nd rounder (#34) in exchange for Peterson.  We still have a lot of cap room for a long term deal and would only have to give up the #33 pick.  This would provide some nice parts to the improving defense.  I like thinking of Peppers, and Avril at DE's with Sims, Curry, and Peterson at LB's.  Thoughts??
