The Bears on Wednesday placed rookie cornerback Zack Bowman on injured reserve and signed veteran safety Terrence Holt to their 53-man roster.

After registering a career-high 75 tackles while starting all 16 games for the Cardinals last season, he was released by Arizona in February. The brother of St. Louis Rams receiver Torry Holt signed with the Carolina Panthers in March, but was waived at the end of the preseason.

Holt has started 43 of 69 career games played. The 6-2, 208-pounder has recorded 245 tackles, 13 pass breakups, four forced fumbles, four fumble recoveries and a half sack. He will wear No. 32 with the Bears.

i wonder if he might be used as a cornerback given that lovie loves playing big corners who have speed. after all tillman was converted, but in any event, we can use as many guys as we can get in the banged up secondary.

b mac is out for the season. what the hell.... i really liked brandon at the nickel and in my opinion this is a huge loss, even if lovie seems non chalant.

Let the d manning experiment continue.

“We’re very comfortable with Danieal playing,” said coach Lovie Smith. “He’s always been one of our guys. Danieal has played a lot of football around here.”

McGowan’s injury comes one year after the Bears lost a pair of safeties in Mike Brown and Payne to season-ending injuries in Week 1 and Week 4, respectively.

“It’s a loss, but that’s life in the NFL,” Smith said. “You have injuries. That’s why you look to have your 53-man roster as strong as you possibly can get it and just know that history tells you guys will go down, especially it seems like at the safety position. So it’s the next guy up for us and we feel lucky to have a player like Danieal ready to step in

i came across this article on the sun times:

http://blogs.suntimes.com/bears/2008/09/briggs_fires_on_decision_to_tr.html

its comes as no suprise that he was pissed about jones leaving... i thought it was interesting as to how he worded it.

theres another link on the article to the radio interview which is worth a listen.

he also confirmed b mac moving to nickel. so i guess d manning would be depth at corner and free saftey???? and kevin payne is the new strong saftey.

The tranquil start to Bears training camp disappeared faster than a Devin Hester touchdown return today when the Bears special teams ace refused to show up for the opening practice in a contract holdout.

Hester did not report to camp on Tuesday night before midnight as players were required to do and missed team meetings this morning, but he officially became a contract holdout with the start of practice at 3 p.m.

Bucs QB Chris Simms may be on the verge of receiving his year-long wish for an escape from Tampa, the way we hear it. Reports recently surfaced that the Cowboys were interested in trading for Simms to make him a backup to Tony Romo. Sources tell PFW the Bears and Lions have shown interest in acquiring the fifth-year veteran, as well. Word is there’s a good chance Simms will be with another team around the time training camp begins.

As a life long bear fan, i hope you guys get what im saying here...

After watching that performance last night, anyone who writes or reads on this blog should boycott being a fan until the monday night game against the vikes. Not only am I embarrassed but I am still in shock. Lovie and his staff did a horrible job getting the boys ready for this game... Todd Collins???? Only the Bears D of 2007 could let a guy like that have a good game. Never did I think our team could resemble the 2004 Krenzel group but I was proved otherwise.

I dont really understand the logic of discussing the personal at such great length. You can't overhaul a super bowl team in one day, nor do we need too. Its really easy to say, cut this guy, sign this guy, resign these guys but this isnt Madden 08 so lets not get carried away.

The reality is that the majority of these guys are hand picked by Lovie and he doesnt give up on his players.

I know this is a blog and to discuss this stuff at length is fun or interesting or whatever. But as a die hard bear fan I feel like all of us do not need to discuss this team until they show us a game worth cheering for. I think all of us are better of boycotting this site and all bear sites or news. Seriously, name one thing other than Hester that has made this season fun and exciting to watch(although I thought watching Rex and Benard hook up against Oak& Den was freakin cool)? We are currently discussing mediocrity and I say lets give it a break until they show us they are worth taking about.

I have always considered myself an unconditional bear fan but guys this is ridiculous.... after all we are the 4th phase..hahaha

In Rex we Trust

First, the bears could have easily won the last seven games.... think about it.

If this game wasnt evidence enough, we need Rex more than Rex needs us. He was the lone bright spot today on offense. He has most surely matured as a quarterback and I see him only getting better. I hope Angelo resigns Rex and Benard to long term deals.Add Bradley, Olsen, Hester and Benson and I think there is a future for this offense.

Lovie Smith deserves some serious blame for the results this year and maybe his job. Rex has improved his overall game with Pep Hamilton and I can't believe we had to witness the horrible, unathletic Griese experiment.(And if you have been watching the games,I dont need a follow up sentence) Lovie really dropped the ball on that one... haha. It was a panic move and I think the current form of Grossman says enough. He apparently runs out of patience with Rex but is able to wait 12 games to bench Archuleta and Fred Miller. He and Turner refuse to get Mark Bradley the ball and instead choose Hester who has yet to gain any productive yards on offense(And don't bring up the minnesota game). Everytime he catches those lateral passes,it's a 3 to 6 yard loss. He gets the running game working just in time for our playoff hopes to get crushed and Benson to suffer a season ending injury... clutch.

Look, this team looks like a contender with Rex at quarterback. For some reason our D plays better and they get more takeaways. With less guys in the box our backs can break some longer runs. I just hate Lovie for benching this guy. You cant change the face of a super bowl team for a guy who has never won a playoff game. Going to the super bowl should guarantee your job the following year.

With the influx of young qbs taking over these days, I can only hope the Chicago Bears and the fans learn to embrace Rex. We've got our quarterback for the future and there does not need to be another discussion about it. Discuss the bad and I will show you the good.

The turnovers of last year are youth but the wins and the throws are pure talent.

Lets not get fooled with the Free Agent mystique. They never work out in this town, no matter who they are.
This year sucks, I get it. But can you imagine how good this team can be after going through this season. With a some better health, a productive O line and a maturing Rex at quarterback, this team can win alot of games. In essence they're battle tested.
What more can they experience?
