Blogging The Boys Stay Away From The Middle

What's the best way to win in the NFL?

Dominating Defense? Unstoppable Offence? Balanced Attack?

The first two make sense. Don't try the last.

If you have a dominating defense, you can stop good offenses. Then your worry is whether or not your offense can score any points at all.

If you have an unstoppable Offense, you score at will. You tear up average defenses. You just have to make sure your defense can hold the opposition on those few occasions you can't score.

The best way to have your defense give up the least yards in the NFL... don't let them on the field. A great offense will make a defense better.

THE PROBLEM WITH BEING IN THE MIDDLE

If you try to have balance, rather than excelling at one, you run the risk that excellent defenses wil prevent your offense from scorring. And excellent offenses will walk all over your defense.

In other words, you have a chance of losing every game.

When you excel at once facit of the game, you are going to beat teams that don't match up. With those that do, you may win or lose, but you should be in the game.

CONCLUSION

I say go for DeCastro at 14. Make the offense excellent. Keep the defense off the field. By all means, make the defense better. But make the offence shine and we should be able to get deep in the playoffs.

Blogging The Boys Should We Sign Stewart

The Raiders released TE Tony Stewart today.

Since Phillips went down, the Cowboys have a need for a 3rd TE.

Should we sign Stewart?

He is a solid player and excellent on special teams, but he missed much of the preseason with an ankle injury.

Assuming he is healthy, should the 'Boys give him a tryout?

What do you think?

Do we need a 3rd TE?   Should we stick with what we have?   Who else might be available you would bring in?

Blogging The Boys Wierd Likely Playoff Scenario

There is a good chance the Cowboys could end up playing the Eagles or either the 2nd seed in the playoffs or being out of the playoffs (if they lose).  How?

Giants win out (includes win vs Minn in week 17).

Packers win out (includes win over AZ in week 17).

Cowboys beat Washington next week and Minn loses to the Bears.

If the Cowboys beat the Eagles in week 17, they get the number 2 seed in the playoffs and a first round bye.  If they lose, they miss the playoffs.

Blogging The Boys Time To Let Johnson Go

The Cowboys should give Brad Johnson his walking papers.  It is clear that he can't play at this level any more.  Instead, sign some young QB off of another teams practice squad (like Andre Woodson from the Giants) to be the 3rd stringer.  At least you can work on them developmentally for the future.  BB isn't much of an upgrade, but he is younger and quicker.  Any way, without Romo, this team isn't going to accomplish much this year (but will end up with a higher draft pick - though we traded our first - and easier schedule for next year)

Blogging The Boys Can Cowboys get Spencer for CB?

Manny Lawson, the Niner's OLB is out for the season. His backup is out also.
Niners need LB's bad.  They have a chance to make the playoffs this year.
But not without quality LB's.
Do you think the Cowboys could trade an LB for Shante Spencer, the Niner's backup CB? Or even one of the starters?

What do you think?
