Assuming the Pac-16 is formed, what does this do for our 2011 UCLA game. I've heard there are 2 more years remaining on the Big 12 deal, but I've also heard it's unlikely that the 2nd of those years would be played out. Would they just keep the scheduled UCLA away game on the schedule as is and have it be one of our conference games v. the west? It's an interesting situation, what with the difficulties in scheduling that already exist.
Sam Acho
Here's a link to a Fort Worth Star Telegram article about spring practice. In it, Mack says that Acho and Randall would be the starting tackles right now, with Eddie Jones and Okafor at ends. Had anyone else heard about spinning Acho down to tackle? To me, he doesn't seem like he has the build to make this jump in one off-season, plus with his production i just can't see possibly foregoing 10 plus sacks.
Thoughts? We've been extremely successful moving players closer and closer to the center as their careers progress, but most of the ones i can think of didn't excell at their previous position as much as Sam did this last year.

Greg Davis Interview
This is a quote from the Greg Davis interview on ESPN's Big 12 Blog:
"We’re going to go back under center with the quarterback some more. We played the last two years almost exclusively out of the shotgun. We will continue to play a lot of the game from the shotgun, but we’re going to go back under center to try and help the backs run more downhill. With the zone read dropping off the radar, we’re going to play with the running backs’ alignment in the gun. When we are running the ball out of the gun, they can run more downhill. We can be tighter on our zones with the offensive line because of the landmarks with the backs. I think that is a big emphasis this spring -- to try and take the pressure off the quarterback and run the ball better."
What do ya'll think this means in terms of x's and o's? Do you think we are thinking about employing the pistol?
Trent Richardson
Can anyone (GOBR?) shed a little light on what happened with our recruiting of Richardson? I remember hearing and reading that one of the most heralded RB's in the southeast was a big Horns fan growing up. And I vaguely remember Major Applewhite and/or Muchamp was his contact coach, then nothing. I don't recall hearing much else after this (which doesn't mean it was not discussed in detail either here or somewhere else, and I simply missed it). I cannot fathom not making a big push for the #6 overall recruit simply because he was from Florida, not TX. Was it the promise to Whaley? Grade issues? Character? If it was Whaley, need we even debate the intelligence of that decision?
Need Title Game Parking Pass
Got my tix and ready to see us off to Cali. Now all i'm looking for is a parking pass for the "death star". Will pay, obviously, just let me know.
Side note: we got screwed on All Big XII team. OU gets more player recognition that we do? I guess i'm over it by now, considering it's been going on for years, but it still really gets under my skin. Oh well, we get last laugh.
Muschamp on ND short list
This didn't take long. According to CBS.com's Dennis Dodd, Notre Dame is thinking defense for their next coach and Muschamp is on their radar. Also listed are Stoops and TCU's Gary Patterson. I certainly don't profess to know the inner workings of the ND machinery, but from what I read you need to either be a homer or have great PR skills to survive the onslaught which accompanies the position.
That's what makes these interesting names to be on a short list. Muschamp admitted less than a year ago that he wasn't ready to be a head coach at a big time program, needing time to learn the intricacies of being the CEO of a top 5 juggernaut. Patterson's knock around TCU for years has been his lack of political savy when it comes to alumni, boosters, fundraising etc. Patterson aside, does Muschamp bolt for a chance to coach the Irish? As the article points out, in the time it will take to turn the thing around at ND (3-4 years), he very likely will be the head coach at The University of Texas. Why take the risk?
Stoops is the only one with the track record of leading a big boy, but I just can't wrap my mind around leaving a place like OU(sucks) to go to Notre Dame. Maybe my relative youth (under 30) prevents me from comprehending why the coach of one of the Big 5 would even consider leaving his post to go to South Bend. For ND to throw his name out around, does that mean they have at least some indication he would seriously consider an offer?
Talk Like a Pirate Day
Tomorrow, September 19th, is "International Talk Like a Pirate Day". http://www.talklikeapirate.com/piratehome.html
I've seen this around the interweb, and just have to say wow, it's one hell of a coincidence that it falls on the biggest day of the Tech's season. Will Leach require his team to communicate in pirate speak all day? And if so, does this cause communication problems which we can take advantage of?
Also, smartfootball has an excellent article, posted on Dr. Saturday, deconstructing the X's and O's of Tech's offense and how Muschamp will attack. http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/football/blog/dr_saturday/post/Deconstructing-In-which-Will-Muschamp-takes-Mik?urn=ncaaf,190307
Enjoy.
Vertical Passing Game
Does anyone else have concerns about our lack of a vertical passing attack? I guess i'm curious about whether it's a matter of taking what the defense gives us; lack of arm strength to throw deep and/or across the field (pots, deep outs, comebacks, etc.); lack of talent at receiver to run those routes; or has GD just been playing high %, conservative ball, hoping to open it up when he needs it?
Chris Whaley
I saw Chris Whaley in the stadium co-op at halftime. He was actually signing a few autographs for some old men, so i decided not to bother him (aside from staring at him for 10 minutes). To say he is huge is an understatement. As i was walking out i slowed down and told him to give em hell next year, to which he soflty replied "yes sir". Now that the two of us have become BFF, i've decided that he'll be our savior at RB next year.
