(Fantasy) - Keep Which Prospect?
In my 12 team head to head points league, we can keep three prospects (less than 300 AB/100 IP). My options are pretty stacked - Machado, Profar, Trout, Shelby Miller, Lawrie, and J.Montero. While I like Machado and Profar, it really comes down to keeping three of Trout, Miller, Lawrie, and Montero. I'm pretty much locked in on Trout and Miller (pitching is pretty important in this league) but am torn between Lawrie and Montero.
What do you think?

Such as -
Lollis, Odorizzi, Spruill, Wieland, Peacock, Locke, Familia, May, Brackman, T.Walker, Goodnight, Cecil, Eovaldi.
And perhaps some others that are currently listed as to be announced.

Chris Perez' velocity?
Anyone else a little concerned about his lack of velocity so far? His fastball has averaged 91 MPH so far, down 3 miles from the past two years. Is there any reason for it? It's not a big sample size, but he had his velocity from the get go last season.
Here's his velocity charts... you can see he's never thrown as "slow" as he has so far this year... http://www.fangraphs.com/pitchfxo.aspx?playerid=5213&position=P&pitch=FA
Luke Jackson, SP, TEX
Anyone else think that Jackson is shaping up to be one of the most intriguing non-top 100 prospects this season? I've read nothing but good things about him and he seems like the kind of guy who has a chance to become a consensus top 100 prospect a year from now.
Sickels, 9/10:
Inconsistent command from this Florida high school kid, but stuff is very, very good and I have one very trusted source who insists Jackson is going to take the lower minors by storm next year.
Goldstein, 3/11:
A supplemental first-round pick who is very projectable, and who could move up this list in short order.
Those reports were promising on their own, but Jason Parks recently saw Jackson first-hand and had many glowing things to say.... NOTE: This particular content was free for all on his site.
Jackson was throwing very hard, sitting 93 and touching 95. Jackson isn’t a big guy, but he creates excellent angle on his FB, throwing from a 3/4 slot and creating good deception stemming from his glove movement, a high leg lift, and a high front-side in the delivery. Velocity aside, the pitch features a ton of late-life, exploding on hitters and boring into right-handers. The CB is very good as well, showing depth and good deception from the arm. The ball breaks late on the hitter, with 12-6 action. The CU was too firm, but I wasn’t expecting a plus CU from a recent high school arm, especially one that has a mid 70s CB and a plus FB. The arm action is very fast and the delivery smooth, so I think the CU will develop. There aren’t many arms I would take in the system over Jackson. It’s early, but the arm is special.
I have a really good intuitive feeling about this guy's chances. 12 months from now, I think he'll be on everyone's top 100. Who else is with me?

Piliere's Danny Duffy scouting report
FULL REPORT @ http://mlb.fanhouse.com/2010/11/18/full-scouting-report-danny-duffy/
In part, it reads:
"Duffy has a lot of strong attributes but it's the fastball that will set him apart. There have been varying reports on Duffy's velocity since his return, but the buzz about his velocity being up is absolutely true. On Wednesday, Duffy worked at 92-94, never pitching below 91 and reaching 96 mph twice. And throughout the outing he routinely touched 95 mph"
"If you are looking for a comparison, one of the more clear-cut ones out there is Cole Hamels."
"Right now, his overall command of his secondary pitches make him more of a third starter or perhaps a two. But, if he can consistently spot his curveball or changeup, then we suddenly have an ace-type pitcher on our hands."
Pretty positive report overall and looks more and more like Law just saw him on an off night.

13. Zack Dodson, LHP: He's a lefty who has potential for three solid offerings, but projects as back-end starter.
14. Alex Presley, OF: Presley is a diminutive outfielder who can hit, but he doesn't profile well for a corner due to a lack of power.
15. Gorkys Hernandez, OF: He's one of the best defensive outfielders in the minors, but will he ever hit?
16. Chase D'Arnaud, SS: D'Arnaud collapsed at Double-A in 2011, but he still offers a decent approach and speed.
17. Andrew Lambo, OF: This former Dodgers prospect has seen his stock fall due to poor performances and drug suspensions. The Pirates believe in the bat, and a good showing so far in the Arizona Fall League is creating optimism.
18. Nick Kingham, RHP: This 2010 fourth-rounder is big and projectable, but he's more of a thrower than a pitcher for now.
19. Josh Harrison, INF: An ex-Cubs prospect, Harrison can put a bat on the ball, but like Presley, he's tiny and offers few secondary skills.
20. Quincy Latimore, OF: He's a compact athlete who had minor a breakout year with 19 home runs and 100 RBI

Reds 5th starter
It's supposedly down to Chapman, Travis Wood, or Leake. Who wins?
Chapman undoubtedly has the best stuff of the three, but a couple months ago the prevailing opinion here was to start him in High A or Double A. He's also dealing with a minor back issue right now. Leake has not pitched an inning the minors and would jump from college to the majors, something even Strasburg isn't doing. Wood is the least regarded of the three, but he managed to get up to AAA by the end of last year.
Carlos Gonzalez
What do people think of him going forward?
He was always highly regarded as a prospect, but scuffled badly in 2008 as a rookie with Oakland. Then he was dealt to Colorado, his third organization in as many years, and he tore up AAA with a 1048 OPS with a 22-32 BB-K in 192 AB. Upon promotion to Colorado, he initially struggled but mashed as the season wore on, posting a 992 OPS over his final 200 AB of the year. He added in 16 steals (in 20 attempts) in his 278 major league at bats last year.
Now 24, he is getting a lot of hype heading into 2010 and beyond. Nobody has ever doubted the tools.

14. Alex Amarista, 2B: The tiny Venezuelan won the Midwest League batting title, but he has questionable upside.

John Sickels' Top 15
1) Mike Trout, OF, Grade B+: On overall upside potential, has to rank number one but although I'd love additional performance data about his power development. A bit of a risk, but the upside is outstanding.
2) Hank Conger, C, Grade B+: I think a full breakout is possible in 2010. I like the bat, the glove is coming along, just hope he stays healthy.
3) Trevor Reckling, LHP, Grade B+: Needs to lower his walk rate, but I liked him a lot last year and he performed well as one of the youngest pitchers in Double-A.
4) Garrett Richards, RHP, Grade B: First-class stuff and command was much better in pro ball than in college ball.
5) Peter Bourjos, OF, Grade B-: Borderline B. Speed goes nicely with improved plate discipline.
6) Fabio Martinez, RHP, Grade B-: Great stuff with high strikeout rate, needs to lower walks and prove himself at higher levels.
7) Tyler Skaggs, LHP, Grade B- due to lack of experience, but supremely projectable.
8) Jordan Walden, RHP, Grade B-: tough to rank and grade due to '09 injury problems. If healthy he's a personal favorite, and dominated at times in the Texas League before getting hurt.
9) Jon Bachanov, RHP, Grade B-: Tommy John survivor drew raves in the Arizona Rookie League, showing sharp command of plus stuff. Just needs more experience.
10) Chris Pettit, OF, Grade B-: I think he can be a solid player but not a star.
11) Randal Grichuk, OF, Grade B-: borderline C+. Very strong power potential, but needs to make a lot of improvements with his plate discipline.
12) Trevor Bell, RHP, Grade C+: Forgotten prospect re-established himself in 2009. Does not have the upside of the other Grade C+s, but he's closer to being able to help. Didn't do great in the majors but deserves more chances.
13) Ryan Chaffee, RHP, Grade C+: High strikeout rate with very high GO/AO ratio. Needs to lower walks, big sleeper for '10.
14) Tyler Chatwood, RHP, Grade C+: Similar to Chaffee, gets strikeouts and grounders although not quite as extreme, also a sleeper if he can throw more strikes.
15) Jean Segura, 2B, Grade C+: Very young, fast, hit well in the Pioneer League, but has problems with injuries.
