Minor League Ball OT: Cliff Lee

Absurd. That is the only word I can think of to describe what Cliff Lee has done this first month of the 2008 season. Apparently Cliff Lee does not believe in going on a hot streak, he believes more in scorching fire. Yes, his current pace is impossible to maintain, FOR ANYONE. However, I don't think its crazy to think he will be very productive the rest of the way. Curious what you all think of the new Cliff Lee.

What do you guys think of the Giants latest draft pick? Do you see him as a guy with top of the rotation stuff?

Minor League Ball Dukes

LOL I just saw this posted before, does it ever end?

"Elijah Dukes - OF - Nationals

According to the St. Petersburg Times, another woman has asked a judge to protect her from Elijah Dukes, saying he sent her threatening text messages.

Can't we just make it mandatory that all women are protected from Dukes? Amanda E. Reese, who said she dated Dukes between August and October, was granted a temporary injunction for protection against domestic violence on Dec. 10. She is scheduled to appear in court Tuesday morning to seek extended protection. "At this point, I fear for me and my child's life, due to his past history with his estranged wife," Reese wrote in her petition to the court.  Dec. 17 - 9:04 p.m. ET"

Minor League Ball Nate Schierholtz in '08

Anybody else with me that he could be a very productive player in 2008? This kid just keeps on hitting...two months ago there was a post on here about him and I compared him to a Johnny Damon type hitter...and I am going to continue that comparison. With a giants offense that is sorely looking for a boost, he could be a fine contributor I think.

Minor League Ball Better Bet for 2008: Jason Schmidt or Mark Mulder?

Who is the better bet for 2008: Jason Schmidt or Mark Mulder? Jason Schmidt had season ending shoulder surgery and just managed 25 innings pitched in 2007 and will be 35 years of age in January. Reports say that Schmidt should be healthy and ready to return fine for Spring training 2008. Mulder had rotator cuff surgery and missed all of 2007 before managing 11 innings in September in which he got blasted and then had arthroscropic surgery on September 12th on the same rotator cuff. Mulder will turn 31 in August of 2008. Schmidt had a solid 2006 campaign and Mulder had a solid 2005 campaign. This is a fantasy related question because each are 1 year contracts for 2008 at bad contracts, and it is not likely I can deal them. However, it is possible I can package one of them with someone else. Help me make the choice.

Minor League Ball some early AFL notes

Longoria has 3 homers in 4 games, but with a 7/1 k/bb ratio. Travis Snider is 4 for 9 with 2 doubles and a 3/4 k/bb ratio (still encouraging even with such a small sample size). Jeff Clement is 5/9 with a homer. Matt Laporta has a homer with 4 rbis. Cameron Maybin is 1 for 7. Matt Antonelli is off to an 0 for 9 start with a walk and 3 k's. Nate Schierholtz is 4 for 12 with an rbi.

Minor League Ball Bright spots in the Orioles farm system?

Are there guys I am just not seeing? Coming into '07 Brandon Erbe was billed as a top notch young talent because of his stuff versus his age, but his lack of secondary pitches and issues with control really got the better of him thus far. Actually that is putting it mildly, he was getting wrecked towards late July/early August on a consistent basis. His talent is still huge but he is going to need a nice rebound season to get back on peoples radar. Pedro Beato faired better than Erbe but has not been dynamite. Rowell started his season a little late and wasnt too bad but there is definitely more room for growth. Wieters will be monitored closely in '08 and will likely impress. Looking at the Frederick Keys and Delmarva Shorebirds rosters I came across OF Brandon Tripp and SP Bradley Bergesen pitcher. Tripp's line was 19-79-.288 in 371 AB's. For a 22 year old in A that is respectable. Bergesen was 10-9 with a 3.50 era and 108 strikeouts versus 26 walks in 150 innings. Solid control-mild strikeouts. 7 homers allowed isnt too bad either. Bergesen is just turning 22 on September 25th and might be someone to monitor for '08. After this however, I wonder who else there is that may make an impact in the future.

Minor League Ball Who do you prefer more long term: Cueto or Kennedy?

At age 21 Cueto is having a great year and has established himself as an elite prospect as the 2007 minor league season starts to wind down. He has an excellent strike out to walk ratio [136 ks to 30 walks] along with a 2.83 era and only 8 homers allowed. While most Cincinnati Reds prospects have lived in the shadow of Homer Bailey and Jay Bruce in recent times, this one wont be overlooked. Now at the far side of age 22 the Yankees Ian Kennedy has really blossomed as well, cruising along at each stop of the minors this season sporting a sparkling 1.75 era with a 12-2 record along with 148 ks to 44 walks. Well done Mr. Kennedy..well done. Cueto has a good fastball topping out in the mid 90's which makes his slider that much more effective where Kennedy has a low 90's heater and relies more on off speed breaking pitches and great command. I feel each has a high ceiling and I am curious where the majority would place their money.

Minor League Ball inman's last 5 AA starts

he has a 2.48 era, with 12 walks vs 30 strikeouts. After having a rough transition, it seems he is settling in quite nicely. There was a lot of talk how his stuff was going to translate to AA, but it appears to be not a problem. He will likely finish out the season in AA and start next year there as well. where do you guys think he rates next to kevin slowey? does he have better stuff?

Minor League Ball brandon erbe---what is going on?

Erbe has had his ups this season, and his downs...but after noticing he got shelled AGAIN last night, i am really beginning to worry. When he loses, it is extremely ugly. I have not had the opportunity to see him pitch in person, but does anyone have any insight into what is possibly wrong? I dont mean to push the panic button just yet, he is still very young and I like his ability a lot, but its weird to see him struggle so bad at times. Is there a chance he is hurt?

i understand fully he is a control pitcher, but he is giving up homers at an alarming rate. He gives up 2 homers every game he pitches. Is there any hope he can keep the ball in the yard?

Minor League Ball Garza Time?

Scott Baker got roughed up again tonight, looks like he might be on the way out. I just saw this before:

"Scott Baker was touched up for six runs on seven hits in 4 2/3 innings against the Brewers on Friday.

Paging Matt Garza. Baker struck out six and walked one, but his gopheritis struck at the worst possible time when Geoff Jenkins hit a grand slam. With three straight bad performances, Baker is likely headed back to the minors. Garza has been pitching well and is ready for the call. If possible, feel free to jump the gun and grab Garza before the official announcement."
