I am a huge UNLV fan and that is what you will mostly find me commenting and posting about. I write about the Rebels for the Mountain West Connection.
I also have been a big fan of the Phoenix Suns and Indianapolis Colts for a while now and I am occassionally active regarding those teams.
I'm very interested in U.S. Soccer. I watch every match that I realistically can, but I honestly don't really follow them off the field.
Up until June of 2011, I never really had a favorite MLB team, but I've settled on the Colorado Rockies as a team to follow.

Game Recap: UNLV Runnin' Rebels Use Strong Second Half To Take Down New Mexico Lobos, 80-63
The UNLV Runnin' Rebels got a much needed victory over the New Mexico Lobos on Saturday, winning 80-63. The Runnin' Rebels used a strong second half where they outscored the Lobos 41-28. Five players were in double figures for UNLV, with Mike Moser and Carlos Lopez leading the way with 14 points each. Moser also added 10 rebounds to earn his second straight double-double. Kendall Williams and Tony Snell also led New Mexico with 15 points each as four Lobos reached double figures.
The story of the game is found in the turnover battle, where New Mexico turned the ball over 21 times. UNLV then did what they do best with these turnovers, score. UNLV scored often off of turnovers and in transition, and it was too much for New Mexico to keep with in the second half. In the first half, the Lobos shot decently, being able to keep the game within striking distance, but went cold for stretches in the second half. During each stretch, UNLV pushed their lead further and further until New Mexico was pretty much done.
Full Court Press: San Diego State With Another Big Victory
On Tuesday, Colorado State moved to 2-0 in conference play after taking down Boise State, 66-55. Wednesday saw Wyoming get its first conference victory over Air Force, 66-55, UNLV score 101 points in their victory over TCU, 101-78, and San Diego State use a 15-0 run late in the game to take down New Mexico, 75-70. With the Aztecs victory, they have put themselves in the driver's seat to win the Mountain West Conference.
San Diego State is now 2-0 in conference play with both wins over the only two other serious contenders for the Mountain West crown. From here up until the Aztecs rematch with the Runnin' Rebels in February, San Diego State shouldn't have much trouble getting more W's. The Aztecs also have used those two victories to skyrocket their RPI up to 29, good enough for third best in the Mountain West.
Today's slate of Mountain West games should be interesting, with New Mexico @ UNLV headlining the weekend.
Game Recap: UNLV Runnin' Rebels Run TCU Horned Frogs Out Of The Gym, 101-78
The UNLV Runnin' Rebels shot 58% fom the field in their second game scoring over 100 points as the Runnin' Rebels took down the TCU Horned Frogs, 101-78. Anthony Marshall scored a career high 27 points and 9 assists in the victory while Chace Stanback added 21 and Mike Moser had 16 points for a Runnin' Rebel team that was not lacking on the offensive end.
On TCU's end, Hank Thorns struggled to score, posting only 11 points on 3-14 shooting, after coming into the game on a hot streak. As a team, TCU struggled to make shots, shooting 38% from the field and 17% from behind the arc. The Horned Frogs managed to play well in the post, as Adrick Mckinney and Amric Fields eased their way into double figures.
Game Preview: Both UNLV And TCU Are Looking For First Conference Victory
Both UNLV and TCU are coming off of heartbreaking losses, as UNLV lost at the buzzer to San Diego State and TCU fell in double overtime in Fort Collins. UNLV struggled offensively in their loss at Viejas Arena, as the only player to score double digits was Anthony Marshall with 26, but TCU played very well offensively. Three players scored in double digits and three starters had 9 points each. Overall, TCU played very well on the offensive end.
In order for them to compete with the UNLV Runnin' Rebels in this game, they are going to have to recreate that kind of performance. If Saturday was any indication, the TCU defense won't do well against the UNLV high-octane offense, so the Horned Frogs are going to need to play well offensively to have any chance.
They also are going to need to follow the blueprint created by San Diego State as to how to slow down the UNLV offense. San Diego State was able to limit UNLV's transition opportunities by holding their turnovers to a minimum and not allowing many long rebounds. UNLV's offense certainly isn't built for a half-court setting, so TCU's best bet would be to slow the game down as much as possible and try to keep the Runnin' Rebels from getting out in transition.

Full Court Press: San Diego State Traveling To The Pit Headlines Wednesday's Games
Saturday's game to watch was UNLV opening up the conference season against San Diego State and it sure didn't disappoint. James Rahon had 22 points and Jamaal Franklin had 24 points, including the game winning basket, for the Aztecs as San Diego State pulled out a close victory at home, 69-67. UNLV struggled to score offensively as they weren't able to get many transition opportunities. As a result, Anthony Marshall was the only player in double figures for the Runnin' Rebels with 26 points.
San Diego State got a big boost in their RPI column as they went from in the 50's to an RPI of 39. The Aztecs are going to still need to get a couple of wins against UNLV or New Mexico this season if they plan on getting a decent seed in the NCAA Tournament. San Diego State also gets a nice start in the Mountain West race while UNLV will most likely have to fight their way back into the discussion for the regular season title.
New Mexico pulled away late to win 72-62 in front of the largest crowd at Arena-Auditorium in recent memory. Wyoming kept the game very close until about 10:00 remaining in the game when New Mexico made a 7-0 run to stretch the lead out to nine poitns. Wyoming was never able to climb back to within striking distance and dropped to 14-3 (0-1) on the season while New Mexico improved to 15-2 (1-0) heading into their matchup this Wednesday at The Pit with San Diego State.
Game Recap: San Diego State Aztecs Beat Out UNLV Runnin' Rebels At The Buzzer, 69-67
James Rahon had 22 points and Jamaal Franklin had 24 points to lead the San Diego State Aztecs to a last-second victory over the UNLV Runnin' Rebels on Saturday afternoon. Chase Tapley also added 11 points for the Aztecs, who took down the 12th ranked team in the country in epic fashion, as Jamaal Franklin made a fingeroll with 0.3 seconds remaining to break a 67-67 tie as time was running out.
The UNLV offense sputtered for almost the entire game, as the Runnin' Rebels got off to a 3-22 start against San Diego State. The only bright spot was Anthony Marshall, who single-handedly kept the Runnin' Rebels in the game in the final minutes of the game. Marshall had 26 points, 18 of those coming in the second half. Beyond Marshall, not a single Rebel was in double figures. Just about everybody who was expected to have a big impact on this game for UNLV didn't show up.
Full Court Press: Conference Season Is Upon Us
Full Court Press is back for another season! Last year we did this during conference season and I thoroughly enjoyed it, so I decided to bring it back. The idea is quite simple, every 3 or 4 days I will put a post recapping the previous set of games in the Mountain West, putting in some general analysis about the Mountain West title race and preview the next set of games. These posts will most likely be put up on every Friday and Tuesday.
Conference season is back in session! Last season, conference season was very exciting for basketball as there was 5 teams in the conference competing for a bid in the NCAA Tournament while BYU and San Diego State was capturing the national scene, being ranked in the Top 10 for most of the season. With 5 teams playing well, it created a situation where there was an important matchup every Wednesday or Saturday in the conference. This year, it isn't quite the same situation as BYU is out of the picture, but it doesn't like it is going to be a bad season to watch either.
UNLV comes in as the favorite to win the conference with a 16-2 record, a #12 ranking in both polls, and wins over then-top-ranked North Carolina and Illinois in the United Center at Chicago. San Diego State and New Mexico aren't far behind as both have 14-2 records. The Aztecs are ranked 22nd and New Mexico is 30th if you count the receiving votes category. These three teams are the squads expected to contend for the title this season, so they should make for some pretty intriguing games.
Game Preview: UNLV Runnin' Rebels Take On San Diego State Aztecs In Conference Opener
This Saturday, the conference season starts in the Mountain West and we have quite the opener as both the UNLV Runnin' Rebels and San Diego State Aztecs are ranked. This makes for the second straight year where a conference-opening matchup has featured two ranked teams. Both the Aztecs and Runnin' Rebels have had overachieving seasons to this point, as UNLV had a very fast start, defeating then-top-ranked North Carolina on their way to a 16-2 record. San Diego State also had a couple of important wins on their resume over Arizona and California as a part of their 14-2 start to the season.
Both teams come into the game on a hot streak, having defeated their last seven opponents. Both teams feature good offenses that make a good percentage of their shots. UNLV is shooting 48% from the field and scoring just over 81 points per game while the Aztecs are shooting 47% while scoring 75 points per game. Both of these teams have similar statistics, but when it comes to style of play the two squads are very different.

Mountain West Connection Pick Em': Week 14
The regular season is over! We are now in the play-in/seeding week and that means we have one more week before the actual playoffs start. This week isn't techinically the playoffs, but it isn't technically the regular season. It's considered a play-in week because that's exactly what it is. For those of you who haven't secured a playoff spot already, you have a chance at getting the final playoff spot.
In order to receive the final playoff spot, you have to have the best record this week out of everyone who has not already secured a spot. That also means that those of you who are quite behind in the standings also have a shot at getting the final playoff spot. Since qualification for this spot is not based on your regular season record, you could have missed most of the season and still be eligible to receive the spot. All you have to do is submit your picks to have a chance.
Speaking of which, I need to let you know who finished in the Top 7 and received guaranteed spots.
1. joe bob priddy
2. HawkeyedFrog
3. Chiefsfan_in_Tacoma
4. rebelfan1
5. coronabronc
6. Jeremy Mauss
7. wolfmanshowlforever
If you have a guaranteed spot, don't forget that you should pick this week too. The seeding for the playoffs still aren't set and the results from this week can alter the seeding for the playoffs. If you want to be in good standing once the playoffs come around next week, then you should be sure to submit this week's picks.
As for last week, Chiefsfan_in_Tacoma won the Bonus/Tiebreaker by predicting the highest margin of victory for LSU over Arkansas.
As always, the tables are after the jump for you make your inferences. Oh, and this week's picks are also after the jump.

Game Recap: UNLV Runnin' Rebels Topple North Carolina, Upset Top Ranked Tarheels 90-80
The UNLV Runnin' Rebels used an amazing all-around performance and a flawless second half to upset the nation's top ranked team in the Las Vegas Invitational championship game. UNLV had four players in double figures, led by Chace Stanback's career high of 28 points. Stanback also had 10 rebounds for a double-double and Mike Moser had one of his own with 16 points and 18 rebounds. Oscar Bellfield had 16 points and 9 assists and Anthony Marshall added 13 points of his own.
The story of the game, though, was that UNLV restricted North Carolina's top players quite well. Harrison Barnes only had 2 points in the first half, although did show up in the second half, ending up with 15 points. Tyler Zeller, who was thought to have a major size advantage in the post, only had 5 points and got into foul trouble early in the game. What really surprised me though wasn't the fact that UNLV was able to restrict UNC's top players, but that Roy Williams didn't make some adjustments that would have certainly helped on the defensive end.
Mountain West Connection Pick Em': Week 13
I apologize for not having this post up yesterday. I've been tied up with Thanksgiving plans and that put me in a bit of a bind.
We are in the final week of the regular season! This means that this is the final week to secure your playoff spot before we have our play-in week during championship week. If, after this week concludes, you are in the Top 7 spots of the standings, then you are guaranteed a playoff spot. This does not lock the seeding, which can change from the results of Week 14, but it does guarantee you a playoff spot.
If you do not finish in the Top 7, then don't be worried, you aren't eliminated. The 8th and final spot of the playoffs is awarded to the contestant who has the best record in Week 14. This obviously doesn't include the seven who already have claims on playoff spots. Basically anyone who has submitted picks this season is eligible to get into the playoffs so long as you have the best Week 14 record among those fighting for the final spot. If there is a tie for the best record, then the tiebreaker is overall record, MWC record, Bonuses, and then number of weekly wins.
Now that we have that out of the way, let's get to last week's action! Last week, pack_fan and wolfmanshowlforever both forgot to submit picks and Jeremy Mauss went 6-7. This left the door open for rebelfan1 (myself) to make an important jump up to the 6th spot and temporarily into a guaranteed playoff spot.
Speaking of important movements, for the first time in a while, we have a leader at the top of the standings not named Chiefsfan_in_Tacoma at the top of the standings. joe bob priddy has finally outdone him in order to get to the top of the standings and temporarily take over the top spot of the standings.
As for last week's Bonus/Tiebreaker, I was spot on with my prediction last week. I said that Penn State would beat Ohio State 20-14 and that is exactly what happened. As a result, I receive what is now my third Bonus/Tiebreaker for this year.
More analysis after the jump!

Mountain West Connection Pick Em': Week 12
We are now in the final two weeks of the regular season! Week 12 doesn't look like it is going to have a very appetizing slate of games this week in the national spotlight, as a lot of schools have scheduled before their rivalry showdowns during Thanksgiving weekend. Nonetheless, there are some decent games this week and it should be interesting.
Jeremy Mauss won the week last week as he had a 9-4 record and was the only person to have a record better than 7-6. HawkeyedFrog won the tiebreaker for last week as he predicted the highest margin of victory for Oregon to beat Stanford.
The contestants who currently have a guaranteed playoff spot are:
1. Chiefsfan_in_Tacoma
2. joe bob priddy
3. HawkeyedFrog
4. bfsinc
5. coronabronc
6. uncledougy
7. wolfmanshowlforever
Jeremy Mauss is currently tied with wolfmanshowlforever for that final spot, but wolfmanshowlforever has a better MWC record and therefore owns the tiebreaker over him. Both pack_fan and rebelfan1 are only one spot behind wolfmanshowlforever and Jeremy Mauss, so there is going to be 4 contestants fighting for one playoff spot in the final two weeks.
This week's picks are after the jump!

Mountian West Connection Pick Em': Week 11
Welcome to Week 11! This week marks the first of the final three weeks of our regular season, so if you plan on making a push for a guaranteed playoff spot, the time is now. Last week, pretty much everyone had decent records as the win total ranged anywhere from nine to eleven victories except for one contestant with eight wins.
Last week's bonus/tiebreaker went to myself (rebelfan1). This was because out of the multitude of people who had predicted a 4 point LSU victory, I had predicted the lowest score. Since nobody had predicted a lower margin of victory or actual point totals for the game, the tiebreaker went to me.
This upcoming week's picks and all of your info from last week's results are after the jump!

Game Recap: Boise State Broncos pull away from UNLV Rebels in second half
The UNLV Rebels caught the Boise State Broncos sleepwalking in the first half on Saturday night's game in Las Vegas, as the Rebels were only down by 7 points at halftime. As was expected, the Broncos did eventually pull away from UNLV in the second half and made the final score look a lot more like a traditional Boise State blowout.
Kellen Moore had a decent performance, going 18/31 for 219 yards and 5 touchdown passes. D.J. Harper also stepped in quite well for Doug Martin, who is injured for the Broncos, rushing for 109 yards and a touchdown on 13 carries.
Mountain West Connection Podcast: Week Ten Review
Chris (greekpadre) and I discuss expansion news, the four Mountain West football games from this week and throw in some tidbits about the BCS standings towards the end of the show. Go ahead and click the link above to take a listen.
Mountain West Connection Pick Em': Week 10
Week 10 is here and it follows quite a tough week for pretty much everyone. Last week, only two people had records of 9-4 and nobody had a record better than theirs. Jeremy Mauss won the tiebreaker score as he predicted the highest margin of victory for Oklahoma of 21 points.
wolfmanshowlforever, rebelfan1, and Jeremy Mauss are all on the outside looking in when it comes to the playoff picture, but are only a few games out. With 4 weeks of the regular season remaining (Yes, there are only 4 weeks left before conference championship week) they could make up that ground with a strong finish.

Game Recap: UNLV upsets Colorado State, 38-35
It was no secret that UNLV football was in a state of disarray. The Rebels had dropped 3 straight after their improbable upset of Hawaii, all in embarassing fashion. Colorado State was supposed to get a win to get back on track in their quest for a bowl game with what was supposed to be an easy win. Nobody told UNLV.
Follow Mountain West Connection for more news around the clock via twitter, facebook, and now google plus.

Mountain West Connection Podcast: Previewing Week 9
Jeremy is out of town this week and Chris (greekpadre) fills in quite nicely for him. We talk about the latest expansion rumors and preview the four upcoming Mountain West games.
Mountain West Connection Pick Em': Week 9
Welcome to Week 9! Last week didn't go quite as planned for most of us, as only two participants had double digit wins this past week. One of those two was Chiefsfan_in_Tacoma, who had 11 victories and won the week. With that, he moves into the top spot in the standings, 1 game ahead of joe bob priddy.
Speaking of joe bob priddy, he won the bonus tiebreaker this week, being the only one to predict the Michigan State upset of Wisconsin. He also correctly picked the margin of score, predicting a 27-21 victory by the Spartans.
As for the guaranteed playoff spots, there is some serious contention near the middle of the pack, as HawkeyedFrog, wolfmanshowlforever, uncledougy, rebelfan1, and Jeremy Mauss are all fighting for the final two guaranteed playoff spots. Only three games seperate these contestants, so there will definitely be some serious competition at that area of the standings.
Standings and more after the jump!

Mountain West Connection Pick Em': Week 8
The College Football season is drawing closer to the end as we now enter Week 8 of our Pick Em' game. With their only being 13 weeks in the regular season, the time to start making a push for a guaranteed playoff spot is right now. A little reminder on how the playoffs and seeding work:
The first 13 weeks of the season decide who gets the seven guaranteed spots. You must (obviously) be in the Top 7 of the standings at the end of the first 13 weeks in order to get a guaranteed spot. As for the eighth spot in the playoffs, that is an entirely different animal.
In Conference Championship week, every participant who has submitted picks for at least 8 of the 13 weeks is eligible for the final spot. Only your conference championship week record is counted towards eighth spot eligiblity. For example, if I miss five weeks of the season and play for a total of eight weeks of the season and get the best record for Conference Championship week, then I would receive the eighth slot even though others who were not in the Top 7 had a better overall average from the previous thirteen weeks then myself.
Anyways, back to this week in which joe bob priddy received the Bonus/Tiebreaker for being the only one to correctly choose Michigan State and submit a tiebreaker score (Jeremy Mauss also correctly picked Michigan State but had not submitted a tiebreaker score).
A couple of bad weeks by the leaders and some good weeks by some contestants lower in the standings allowed for a four-way tie to be created for the top of the standings. This should create some interesting drama over the next few weeks.
The regular information is after the jump!

Stadium Journey Reviews Sam Boyd Stadium
Stadium Journey recently went to a UNLV football game and reviewed Sam Boyd Stadium. The Review is very good and interesting. If you're thinking about heading down to Vegas for an away game this year, then you might want to read up on this review in preparation.
Getting To Know A Cowboy: Five Questions With Cowboy Altitude
In this week's battle of the bottom feeders, Wyoming takes on UNLV. That game is Saturday, with a 12:00 M.T. kickoff and will be televised on both The Mtn. and CBS Sports if you're interested in watching the game. Not that you would be, that is unless you are a UNLV or Wyoming fan.
Anyways, I was in contact this week with Matt Hargleroad over at Cowboy Altitude this week and we were able to get a question and answer session done. You can read my responses to his questions here if you like. As far Matt's responses and my questions for him, here they are.
1. Wyoming's defense is giving up 34 points per game this season even though they haven't been playing competition of too much quality. Why has Wyoming struggled on defense so far this season?
Uh, good question. Wyoming fans have been wondering the same thing. First the secondary struggled and then the run stopping suffered. The secondary collapse can be attributed to losing three starters from last year. The run defense has been weak against very strong rushing teams like Nebraska and Utah State. The team is still in just it's second year of switching to the 4-3 defense and losing the entire defensive line from 2009. The d-line is still undersized as DE's Gabe Knapton and Josh Biezuns are converted linebackers.
Five Questions To Preview Wyoming vs. UNLV
As part of the pre-game festivities for the UNLV-Wyoming game, I answered a few questions for Matt over at Cowboy Altitude. Head on over there to see what I had to say about the Rebels.
Mountain West Connection Pick Em': Week 7
Welcome to Week 7! Last week was a bit strange, as I mistakenly forgot to put 13 games up for picking and rather put up 11 games. That was my fault, and to compensate, everyone got a free two wins. As a result, we had three people who went 13-0 last week, as well as almost everyone with a double digit win total. This is a polar opposite from the week before, where more than half the field had a losing record.
The field is tightening up each and every week, as 14 contestants are now within 5 spots of the leaders. Yes, I said leaders. Chiefsfan_in_Tacoma, bfsinc and coronabronc are now all tied atop the leaderboard with an overall average of 0.846.
Last week's tiebreaker went to uncledougy, who predicted the largest margin of victory for Oklahoma.
Last week's information and this week's picks after the jump!

Road To The BCS: The Red River Rivalry Headlines This Week
No. 3 Oklahoma vs. No. 11 Texas 12:00 P.M. ET (ABC)
This year's Red River Rivalry looks like it will be a big game nationally, as the winner most likely will shoot up the polls into the Top 5 and be a favorite for the National Championship discussion. Texas looks like it is recovering from last season's 5-7 record quite nicely, as the Longhorns have looked very good this season and are undefeated up until this point. Oklahoma began the season ranked No. 1 in the nation, but was leapfrogged by LSU and then Alabama following big wins by both. Texas has a good shot to pull of the upset, but they will have to get pressure on Oklahoma quarterback Landry Jones as well as not give the explosive Oklahoma offense short fields off of turnovers.
What they are saying:
Texas is REALLY young. Now in a year or two, if they're able to actually develop some of this young talent unlike in years past, you may find this on the "reasons to be worried" list but for this game, the 'confidence' list is where it belongs. Look, if you hear any former player (on either side) talk about this game you know when they say "there is nothing else like it" that it's not just lip service. The feeling they get when they walk through that south end zone tunnel and down that ramp is something that is felt in only one spot on this big blue planet. So obviously for all these freshman that Texas is playing it will be their first experience in this unrivaled atmosphere. To think that and the experience advantage OU has doesn't play in our favor would either be sheer arrogance (from Texas?!? Surely you jest!) or flat out denial.
Now don't take that to mean that freshmen haven't stepped up in this game in the past and made a name for themselves, but to expectsomething like that to happen would surely be wishful thinking. So will the UT youngsters be able to maintain their composure and not get rattled by the crowd/atmosphere? We sure hope not. -- Crimson and Cream Machine
What they are saying:
1. Texas' ability to pressure/hit Landry Joneswithout selling out.
This is obvious enough, but it's hard to overstate the importance of Texas getting pressure on Oklahoma's quarterback, and laying some hits on him. The OU offense is a tempo offense, and with arguably the best receiving corps in the nation and a quarterback who will pick you apart when he's comfortable, preventing Jones from getting in a rhythm is essential to Texas' defensive game plan on Saturday. Unfortunately, that's a particularly daunting task because if you have to sell out and bring extra defenders to create pressure you're almost assured to pay with big plays. Although Manny Diaz's game plan is sure to center on preventing big plays, he also assuredly knows how important it will be to disrupt Landry Jones' and the OU offense's rhythm.
Diaz will surely bring extra pressure situationally, but what matters is whether we're able to get to Jones with five rushers. If so, Jones is susceptible to mistakes and the OU offense can sputter. But if not -- if Jones is throwing comfortably from the pocket -- we're going to have a very difficult time getting them off the field. It will help that Jones isn't at all a rushing threat, liberating our pass rushers to pursue him aggressively without fear of losing containment. -- Burnt Orange Nation
Rooting Interest: Texas. A Texas victory would most likely put Oklahoma behind Boise State, which is always good news for Mountain West fans. Granted, Texas might jump Boise State as well, but they have a tough schedule with Oklahoma State and Texas A&M still on their slate.
Game Preview: UNLV Rebels Travel To Reno For Rivalry Game Against Nevada Wolfpack
The UNLV Rebels are coming off of a bye week following their terrible performance against Southern Utah two weeks ago. Head Coach Bobby Hauck said that this was "The worst loss in the history of the football program," and I can't say I don't disagree with him. Southern Utah plays in the FCS, and for that matter, aren't all that good in the FCS either. A 41-16 loss at home in which you were outscored 31-6 in the second half certainly isn't a good outcome when you play any team, but to do that against an FCS foe means that this loss probably was one of the worst losses in school history.
As for Nevada's past couple of week's, they haven't been nearly as bad. Granted, two back-to-back losses doesn't exactly sit right, but Nevada came close to pulling off the upset against Texas Tech two weeks ago and had to face a Boise State squad who was probably still holding a grudge from last season. Nevada could pull some positives from both of those games, even though the final result wasn't what they wanted. Nevada forced Texas Tech to make a game-winning drive in the final seconds in order to beat them and the Wolfpack offense held Kellen Moore to 157 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions.
With the way both teams have played so far this season, it wouldn't be too hard to write off the UNLV Rebels and predict a seventh straight victory for the Wolfpack in the Battle for Nevada. I'm here to show you why that probably will happen... and to also show you how it's possible that UNLV pulls the stunner.
Mountain West Connection Pick Em': Week 6
I apologize for getting this post up later than usual. It has been quite a busy week for me and I quite simply haven't had the time to get this post up.
Welcome to Week 6! Last week was absolutely horrendous for most of the contestants. In Week 5, more than half of the people playing this game had a losing record (not including those who did not submit picks for this week). The best record for last week (recorded by yours truly) was a mere 9-4.
The good news for everyone is that most of you didn't take much of a hit from terrible weeks from Week 5. Since your two worst weeks are dropped, most of you are now dropping Week 5's picks and picking up a 9 win or 10 win performance that was previously dropped. For those of you who only had a couple of good weeks, well you're record still pretty much suffered, but for those of you with three or more good weeks, you didn't take much of a hit in the standings.
This week's bonus tiebreaker goes to rebelfan1 who was the closest to picking the margin of score in the Wisconsin-Nebraska game. Nobody was really close to correctly picking the margin of score, but I picked Wisconsin and picked them to win by the widest margin, therefore the tiebreaker goes to myself.
Last week's picks, this week's standings, the overall scores and this week's picks are after the jump!

Mountain West Connection Pick Em': Week 5
Another week of Pick Em' is here! The standings now truly reflect who has done well so far this season. This is because your two worst weeks of the season were dropped, so that means for those of you who started late, you now are caught up with the rest of us who have been playing from the beginning.
As a result, Chiefsfan_in_Tacoma was slingshotted into a first place tie with Gokyle45, with Chiefsfan_in_Tacoma currently holding the tiebreaker since he has the highest MWC Win percentage.
The Top 15 players are all within 6 games of eachother, so everyone has a good shot at getting into the 7 guaranteed playoff spots.
Last week's picks, this week's standings, the overall scores and this week's picks are after the jump!

Game Preview: UNLV Rebels Look To Keep On Rolling Against Southern Utah Thunderbirds
Last weekend was quite an eventful one for UNLV. The Rebels pulled off a huge upset by thoroughly dominating the Hawaii Warriors, 40-20. Emotions are still running quite high from that win, which might possibly have turned the season around for a Rebel team that was looking terrible until that victory. The big question is whether that was a flash in the pan of what UNLV can do when they are focused and not looking ahead or if that is the UNLV team we can come to expect during the rest of the season.
That question should be answered in some manner with Saturday's home game against Southern Utah, which kicks off at 6:00 Pacific Time. If this UNLV team has the ability to sustain the kind of performance that it showed against Hawaii, then it will show against the Thunderbirds. Southern Utah is an FCS team who, before last week's victory, some thought UNLV would have a tough time putting away, and it would be easy for the Rebels to overlook them this week.
UNLV suspends Chace Stanback for Washburn and Grand Canyon games.
UNLV suspended starting forward Chace Stanback for the first two games of the season Monday morning following him pleading guilty to a DUI charge.
"Goodman handed down a 30-day suspended sentence and fined him $585. Stanback will also have to perform 40 hours of community service as part of his plea agreement with the Clark County District Attorney’s office."
"Promptly, UNLV put out a press release roughly an hour after Stanback entered a plea, announcing the 6-foot-8 Los Angeles native's suspension. He'll miss the Rebels' exhibition opener against Washburn on Nov. 1, then the team's first regular season game against Division-II Grand Canyon University on Nov. 11. Both games will be played at the Thomas & Mack Center. He'll return from suspension for the Nov. 14 home rivalry game against Nevada-Reno."
