The first NFL touchdown this year belonged to Red Raider Rookie!!!! Brandon Sharpe picked off the bengals in the 4th quarter of the first preseason game tonight! AWESOME!!!! Wall and williams haven't looked too shabby either, even if it IS pre season...

This is unrelated to Tech, but i feel i have some sense of "family" with this blog and ask for your help...

If you do not know, there was a major earthquake in Haiti yesterday... My father works in disaster response through the United Methodist Church. His boss and a few co-workers, also very good friends of my dad, were in Port-au-prince (the epi-center of the quake) and, while i can't say much... it doesn't look good at all... My dad is heartbroken and stressed yet having to work. He's going to New York first thing in the morning to meet with the General Board of Global Ministries and see whats going to happen... still no word from the men in Haiti... and there are TONS of other people affect, hurt, or killed... PLEASE... if it's your thing to do... pray...

tonight's game was won by Lincoln  not Ruffin... the D was not very good... it seemed like survival not victory...

these are thoughts that i've already seen tossed around...  however i would like to propose the following thoughts

IF Ruffin is hired:

1. Ruffin has already been quoted saying that he would take a pay cut to hire the best DC he could if he was hired as HC

2. My guess, by post game statements he has said about the coaches, he would keep most, if not all of them.... and probably put Lincoln as OC

3. If you take 1 and 2 in consideration, there would be limited shake up in our actual coaching staff and therefore i would hope it would preserve a large portion of our recruiting class... i'm sure we'll lose some... but it's damage control...

4. Ruffin seems like someone that will play ball and make things less rocky. i know that we all hate the admin, but the fact is... if this program wants to survive, they will have to get along...

5. he would be good with fund raising and recruiting...

For everyone who wants to know what happen, you probably never will. The only thing you should know is Coach Leach and Coach Leach alone is responsible for this. I wish it wasn't like this. I love the coaches there, I hope the best for Ruff and the coaches left. Most of all I wish the best for all the players and my old teammates!

This is not a question of likelihood, but rather than of actual technical possibility...

ok... Florida slips up playing Florida State... Bama wins till the play Florida and Florida wins... the Scenario we've heard a few times to get TCU in the NCG against Texas...

but on the other side of that... what happens if in addition to that... Texas loses to either aTm or Nebraska... do we then see TCU play Cincinnati?

furthermore... what if Cinci loses to Pitt?????

is #1 TCU vs. #2 Boise State TECHNICALLY possible?!?!?!?!?

ESPN -Yankee Bowl will start in 2010

The creation of the new Yankee Bowl will be announced at a press conference Wednesday morning at Yankee Stadium. The new game is expected to pit the No. 4 team from the Big East against the No. 7 team from the Big 12 beginning in 2010.

I'm excited about this because if i end up going back to Washington D.C. area to work and Tech happens to end up here (though I'd personally prefer the NCG every year from here on out) it's a short drive for me...

with that said... I'm surprised by this... it doesn't seem like it would make money... yeah, Yankee Stadium.. cool, let's go see new york... but all the way from the Southwest to watch a team from the lower half of our conference play a team from one of the weaker BCS conferences??? doesn't seem like there will be much money in it at all...

Earlier this summer we had a discussion on the best burger in lubbock and i'm here to let you guys know that the status of this has changed. as of YESTERDAY (i just got back to lubbock today) a FiveGuys Burger and Fries opened on 19th and Quaker, in the same shopping center as Daybreak Coffee. Yes, i KNOW it's a chain... but i can't think of it as that because i've been to the original 5 and have met 3 of the "5 guys" For those of you who have never had their burgers and fries, you HAVE to try them!!!!!!!!!!!! a MUST. this place was PACKED already today just the second day open, i can't imagine what it's gonna be like when school starts and on game days, but it's SOOOO worth it! here's a link to their site but you HAVE to try it for yourself!!!!!!!!!!

BUT, what will be the result of this game? the assumption for this pointless just-for-fun off season discussion is that both teams end up undefeated at the end of the year... i have no idea if this is even really comprehensible at this point, but i wanna talk football... even if it is slightly crazy :)

I think the captain would be able to figure out a plan from the cotton bowl experience to work em over, plus i think the biggest reason for the cotton bowl loss was moral more than anything else

The last couple days have been really rough for me... i've had a friend from high school die, all kinds of stresses at work here in New Orleans, and i'm still not quite sure  how i'm going to be paying for next semester back at tech... but with all that, i can still have a little time each day to get away and dive into Tech football and other sports (new interest in Track has risen with the posts here on DTN) I'm very thankful for this site in it's information it provides, the fun things that have come up like the best of lubbock and the smoking ribs stuff. the different personalities on here, young, old, somewhere in the middle. even the occasional troll that just stirs things up and shows how much emotion we have invested in our school and our teams. I'm not trying to get super emotional or anything, just had a moment tonight where i just felt good about things and realized that DTN played a part in that. so thanks to Seth and everyone that's on here for being active fans and talking and discussing and debating. WRECK 'EM!

(P.S. I'm currently planing for tailgate stuff for this next season with my college ministry, I'm hoping to be able to have a parallel tailgate technically unaffiliated with it so that me and some of my friends can drink too. I'll have my Slow Smoked Pulled Pork Sandwiches goin' for sure and you'll have to try em if you're around!)

ok... so it's not science... it's not statistics and math... it's not anything specific... maybe it's the musician in me... maybe it's cajun boiled crawfish,dirty rice, and gumbo i  had for dinner...

but something just feels like this season is going to be something special...

last season everyone saw it coming... a shadow in the distance that you think has potential to be huge but you gotta see as it gets closer what it's like... and we showed up...

this season, no one really expects anything great from us... and really, a lot of the facts and stats and everything point towards us having our usual winning, but no so amazing seasons...

i think we could be a surprise... i think we have more weapons up our sleeves with serious talent that a lot of people aren't really crediting... i think we can... i feel it... if i'm wrong... i'll blame it on the cajun food, but if not... this is me callin' it right now... i'm feeling a regular season record of 11-1... i really do... and i think the 1 comes at oklahoma state... i think we surprise the hell out of texas... it doesn't look good at all... nothing looks to be going our way, but i think we can do it... i think we surprise ourselves... i see it... WRECK 'EM!

ok you can call me crazy now...

so an argument started between me and one of my friends friends on my friends status on facebook... he goes to texas... he was being ridiculous... SO... i told him to message me so we didn't spam our mutual friend with notifications knowing it would be a long conversation with a "hard headed, overly hyped, probable legact of UT that is getting dangerously close to acting like an aggie"... this is the conversation that ensued... i'm proud of myself :-P

I am hard headed for sure.. but over hyped i am not.. i actually thought, and still think OU has the strongest team right now.. how we beat them.. i dunno... but we did... (im a first generation longhorn, not that means much) .. I am not a NAZI therfore i am nothing like A&M lol

im jus pissed cuz no one takes into account the fact we had 4 top 10 teams in a row to play... OU, and you guys had bys before playing us... we played OU neutral and yall away (you have heard those before im sure)

jus renewed anger at you guys as the bowl gets closer... haha dont take it personally..

well i don't take football arguments personally as you really shouldn't either...

what i'm getting at with the over hyped is the whole texas mindset... yes, you're good... you will ALWAYS be good... you OFF seasons are 8 or 9 win seasons... the over hyped is within yourselves that you're God's gift to football and no one but you and OU can be good at football... and that you all sometimes forget the fact that you are respected because of your wins against the rest of us... that you really got boosted support from the rest of the conference being so good this year... It's threatening to you and that's an underlying reason UT fans usually get so incredibly defensive when we finally have things to say back. the over hyped part is in that you can't bring yourself to allow others to be on the same level as you and in that hype yourselves into being leaps and bounds ahead of the rest of us...

I'm positive OU is the best team out there right now and i hope they give Florida hell. I think it took the loss to you guys for them to get the intangibles to play at the level they are now... you can tell that from every game after they played you. Yes... you can argue that the majority of those teams after yall are bad teams... but WATCHING them play, you KNOW something is just RIGHT with their team. That's also a big part of why we got beat so bad, that mixed with a snowball effect. We came in having to prove too much. We don't have the storied program to have the swaggar like you and OU do to go on the road and play at the same levels that we do at home. and then after things got bad... we got to where we had to make big plays... you never want to be where you HAVE to make big plays... that's when mistakes happen to make everything worse... like what happened to us...

as far as our game... we lead you for 58 mintues... you LOOK at how WE played... and it would be hard for you to argue against us being legit.

the A&M was a low blow to get your attention... at least that's one thing we can agree on.

i don't hate UT... i don't hate your fans... i hate the attitude so many of them have. i have very good friends there... i always will...

but it's war on the field ;)
