BTB community mock draft.
Hello guys, I'm from blogging the boys the Dallas Cowboys blog here at SBNation. We have a community mock draft going on and I have been given the luxury of picking for niner nation. As a team with the same basic needs as the cowboys I figured your draft bored would look very similar to ours.
What I'm here asking you guys is for some input on what your looking for and some basic wants from your side. I made a overall bored Which consisted of the best players available IMO in the 2011 draft which have a chance to be the 7th overall pick.
1. Von Miller OlB TAMU
Has all the intangibles to be a great pass rusher. He was explosive at the combine and only helped his draft stock. I think he has the ability to be a Demarcus Ware type player and will be a game changer.
2. Marcell Dareus DT BAMA
The top rated DT in the draft and a area of need for the 49ers. He's a safe pick and will be a mainstay and a starter from day 1.
3. Patrick Peterson CB LSU
One of the most gifted athletes in the draft. A physical freak some would say. Has it all lockdown ability and a explosive return man who runs in the 4.3s.
4. Nick Fairly DT Auburn
Explosive player who disrupted the backfields in nearly every game his senior year. With Fairly you get a mean physical player who likes to punish the QBs and everyone. There is some worries about him. He's only had one good year and could be a bust, but I think his ceiling is much higher than Dareus.
5. Blain Gabbert QB Missouri
This is were it got tricky for me. Gabbert is the top rated qb and almost a guaranteed top 10 pick and its a area of great need for you guys or do you pass and add a blue chipper to the otherside of the ball and stay with what you got for another year and go hard for luck next year?
6. Robert Quinn DE NC
Another pass rushing specialist. A top 10 talent who missed last season.
7. Prince Amukamara CB NEB
Has shutdown corner written all over him. He shades receivers and has good ball skills. Ran fast and performed great at the combine.
8.DaQuan Bowers DE Clemson
Is a top talent and atop of a couple draft boards. Possesses the skill set and agility to be a 5 teqnique DE in a 3-4 but looks more suited for a 4-3 defense.
Well guys let me know how I did and if you would let me draft for you guys come April. I added 8 players just incase there was no chance you took a qb with the number 7 pick.
BTB iPhone app?
I remember back in the day we had an app on itunes, well I finally got myself an iphone and now can't find the app anywhere. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated. Did they remove the app? And why? Ps sorry didn't know were to post this and google wasn't helping me out. Thanks again.
Sporting News ranks DE
Igor Olshansky #11
His move to Dallas reunites him with Wade Phillips, the defensive coordinator during Olshansky's first three years with the Chargers. He knows the 3-4 well, has great strength and has learned to use his hands well and play with leverage.
Sporting News ranks CB
T-New # 12
Newman is explosive and athletic and shows great speed and agility. He can be overaggressive in coverage at times but has been playing with more maturity and better technique recently.
Sporting News ranks DT
Jay Ratliff # 15
Ratliff had a breakout year in 2008, earning Pro Bowl honors for the first time. He was a disruptive pass rusher inside, and despite being relatively light (300 pounds), he has enough strength and lateral mobility to be an effective run-stopper. He's a player on the rise.
Sporting News ranks OLB
Demarcus ware #1
The NFL leader in sacks last season, he made a serious run at Michael Strahan's season record of 22 1/2. Ware is a dominant pass rusher who exhibits remarkable speed and strength.

To anybody who doubts number 9
Ok so im one of "those" people. The one's who will consintley defend Tony Romo no matter how wrong it is. Its not because i have a man crush nor is it because of anything to do with him as a human, its because he is one of the best QB's in the NFL. With only 39 starts under his belt i think its safe to say that he should now be ready to evolve into one of the best QB's Dallas has ever seen. But what if he doesnt and his trend of December woes continue? Well heres a list of all the QB's in the NFC East along with one of the best QB's to play the game and there first 39 starts and prove why we still have alot to look forward to as long as Number 9 is behind the center.

As you can see the stats speak for themselves. Romo leads in yards, WINS, and completions*. The only one stat that hes behind in is that one playoff win by Mcnabb. Tony Romo is a player and all the people who think otherwise need to look at the stats and see he is still young and developing into a top tier QB. Two of those quarterbacks have rings, Lets make it 3 this year, and get that monkey off our back.

Reasons i believe we will have success in 2009.
Ok there are alot of Dallas haters in the world and living in California you get your far share of them. And i have a few close buddies who are die hard Eagles fans and i cant get them to shut-up about how good there team is going to be in 2009 and how Dallas is going to be last in the Division, and i dont buy that one bit. Yes we havent made any big moves or upgrades to our team, or have we got a whole lot of attention or phraise from the media, but i do believe we have made huge steps in making our team better. First i am one who believe's that we will benifit from addition from subtration and i think getting rid of Terrel Owens and Tank Johnson will help our team out. Not only will it let Recievers like Roy Williams, Miles Austin and Patrick Crayton get more touches, It also shows that there going to change it up a bit and utilize Barber, Jones, and Tashard alot more in the game plan. We also have the best Tight End Tandem in the NFL which will open up the field more for Romo.
I also believe that there is alot of things that went wrong last year for us and that 9-7 record could of been a lot worse. A big hit that Dallas took was when our Pro-Bowl Punter went down, we were battling for field position for the rest of the season when that happened. We went from stuffing kicks inside the 20 to letting our opponents start on there 40. Thats bad newes no matter which way you look at it. When Felix Jones went down he was, in my eyes a lock to get Offensive Rookie of the year, and showcased that he can become a elite Weapon on our team. And with Injuries to our QB, O-line, CB's, SS, and Running Backs we are lucky to of been over .500.
Weve upgraded our Saftey posistion with the addition of Sensabaugh, we upgraded ILB with Brooking, were getting a playmaker back in Felix Jones, Roy Williams be be utilized this year and not be sent on one route every play. We didnt have a spectacular draft like everybody was hoping for but we did draft some football players who want to do nothing but play football, and will give us some good depth on our rooster and special teams. We got a legitamate KO specialist who hopefully not let kicks be returned, some quality depth at OLB and maybe some future starters in Hamlin and Williams.
I think this is the year we finally get that burden of 1996 off of our back. Last year we ranked 8th in Defense and didnt start playin till week 8. and we ranked 13th in total offense and missed Romo for 3 of those games and really didnt have any positive yards in any of those games either. So on paper were not that bad were better than most people think and maybe being the underdog is what we need but i wont be suprised to see my boys playing well in the late season this year and even leading the way, all the pieces are in place to make a run.

Austin vs. the second Rd. pick what to do?
So im trying to look at it from both angles first being we match whatever offer the jets give him. Now this would be most likely what Dallas does unless there is a ridicolous offer in his contract or a "poison pill" which would make it almost certain he would become a jet.
The second scenario would be to take the pick and run. Now the problem with that is we have been grooming Austin for 4 years and have alot invested in him and we dont have a legitimate deep threat on our team, but say we did take that pick how would our 2009 draft look like? and would Sam Hurd and Isiah Stanback be able to provide enough output along with Roy and Crayton?
So here are some senarios we could have if we took the pick. We could either keep it and have to back to back picks in the round or we could package one and try and move up to get a higher pick. We could even package them both together and trade back into the 1rst round so lets go over some of those scenarios.
We Could Package the 52nd pick along with the 4th round pick 117 and 5th round pick 166 to the 49ers for the 43 pick Were Players such as Larry English might be available, Duke Robinson, Ron Brace all of whome would have big impacts on the team.
Another option would be to package both picks and move up into the first round or high into the second and take maybe a third or 4th in return
If we traded picks 51 and 52 and pick 155 to the Colts for the 27th overall pick and there 92nd pick in the third
This would give us 27, 69, 92,101,117,166,172,197,208,210,227 still giving us ten players in the draft and allow us to draft Someone like Sean Smith who could fill the Saftey and CB depth issues and we could draft someone to stretch the field later down the draft to replace Austin, Someone like Mike Thomas who runs a 4.3 or Louis Murphy 4.32 and still have 8 other picks to address OL and DL and CB.
I hope Austin does stay with the Cowboys but if for some reason they do trade him dont be to quick to throw away the season and say its lost because we dont have a deep threat because if thats all he is you can find them throughout the draft and maybe who we draft will have a instant impact on the team like Eddie Royal and Desean Jackson did last year, or maybe he will be a bust, Whatever happens know that there are alot of options out there for Dallas and if we lose Austin it doesnt mean the season is over, We still have many options and a probowl QB who can make plays.
Mock Draft
With only 15 days left till the NFL annual Draft i thought i would try my luck predicting the way the pieces fall and hopefully get it somewere close. We currently hold 11 picks and none in round 1.
(Round 2. Pick 40(Trade Pick 51,101))
Ron Brace DT Boston College
(Round 3. Pick 69)
Rashad Johnson FS Alabama
(Round 4. Pick 97 (Trade Pick 117, 156,166))
Jasper Brinkley ILB South Carolina
(Round 5. Pick 170(Trade Pick 197,210,227))
Tyronne Green OG Auburn
(Round 5. Pick 172 C)
Dominque Edison WR Stepen F. Austin
(Round 6. Pick 208 C)
Joe Burnett CB UCF
Speak your voice guys tell me if this mock isnt what you want or tell me if it is the way you might want it to turn out on draft day. Dont be shy tell me who you would want instead of who i put down.
Who do you want?
Ok we all have that special player that we want to be called on draft day, i mean last year i was obsessed about Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie and thought he was gonna be amazing and was just heartbroken when Arizona picked him. Well i thought i would make a post were we all picked those special players that we wanted to draft. im not gonna go pick someone like Michael Crabtree but someone who we could end up with draft day. So i would love to see Sean Smith fall to Pick 40 were we could then trade up and grab him.. Doesnt it just make you all warm imagining a 6'4 saftey jump up and one hand a perfect pass that Donavon placed on the money to Desean Jackson i know my heart just starts racing thinking of having someone with his range back their. I also want Jarron Gilbert. He has all the attributes to be great and is just a beast of a player. He did play in the WAC but so did Scandrick and he's doin just fine. I think he would be a perfect compliment to ware and we would need the depth. My last player on my wish list is. Frantz Joseph He may not be the most spectactular player in the draft but hes big and mean and great vs. the run and did i say mean......

Should Dallas trade Bobby Carpenter???
Idk most of us with no sign of hesitation say yes, but is it the logical thing to do? I mean trading a first round pick who hasnt really shown any of us what he can really do for maybe a 5th round pick or less? Well i decided i would start looking at the linebackers that might be available after the fourth round.
1. Jasper Brinkley ILB South Carolina Overall Prospect 148
6'2 wt 252 4.67 40 26 reps and 35' vertical jump
2. Frantz Joseph ILB Flordia Atlantic Overall Prospect 160
6'1 wt 242 4.83 20
3. Jason Phillips ILB TCU Overall Prospect 169
6'1 wt 239 4.6 40 20 reps 30' vertical jump
4.. Nick Reed ILB Oregon Overall Prospect 190
6'2 wt 245 4.76 40
These are all Prospects that will be available from rounds 4-7 and judging from what i have seen from Capenter all these would play the same role as he does and even have a shot at making the starting role next year unlike Bobby who requires the coaching staff to bring in Keith Brooking and Zach Thomas to do what Bobby should do so i say we cut are loses and if we can get a 5th round pick take it. Hell i would Take a 7th round pick for him. If not hes gone next year anyways.
Mock Draft V.1&2 Update
Ok i took some Help from you guys and created another Mock Draft this one is just a tad bit better but give it no time and ill have the exact draft board haha..... well i havent done anytrades in mine nor used the compensatory picks but if i did i would trade up and make sure i get the best saftey in Delmas if he doesnt allready fall to 51 and even try to grab Alphonso Smith at CB and then have around 6 total picks in the draft well hers the new one excluding Trades..
Round 2 Pick 51. Louis Delmas S Western Michigan....The best S in the draft class if hes there take him he is also a team player and leader and may be the locker room guy the cowboys are looking for
Round 3 Pick 69. Fernuki Toupo OL Oregon Big Strong Man who we have a year or two to groom lots of upside
Round 4 Pick 97. Dorrel Scott DT Clemson... Has a chance to be special... Maybe he can take over that DT position one day so ratliff can move to the edge?
Round 4 Pick 113. Jasper Brinkley MLB South Carolina.. Coming off a injury but a solid player who was one of the top LBs coming into this year
Round 5 Pick 148. Tony Fiammetta FB Syracuse...The best fullback in the class why not grab to block for the best three running backs in the nfl...
Round 5 Pick 158. Mike Wallace WR Mississippi 4.28 40 look for him to be the deep threat along with Austin
Round 6 Pick 184. Joe Burnette CB UCF.... Might be that punt returner weve been waiting for if he drops this far he will be a steal.
Round 7 Pick 193. John Parker Wilson QB Bama....Nice QB to Pick up to groom along Romo for the future
Round 7 Pick 210.. Kevin Ellison ILB USC.... Would be making the trasition from saftey and coming off of three knee surgerys but has the big hit play making abilities to play when healthy
This is my first mock draft im new to this so cut me a little slack. Im only using 9 picks not the two compensatory picks we have.
Round 2. Pick 51. Herman Johnson OG LSU
Round 3. Pick 69. Mitch King DT IOWA
Round 4. Pick 97. Chip Vaughn S Wake Forest
Round 4. Pick 113. Captain Munnerlyn CB South Carolina
Round 5. Pick 148. Louis Murphey WR Flordia
Round 5. Pick 158. Ashley Palmer OLB Mississippi
Round 6. Pick 184. Josh Phillips ILB TCU
Round 7. PIck 193 Quinn Johnson FB LSU
Round 7. Pick 210 Tom Brandstater QB Fresno St.
Showing 1 - 16 of 16
