Russell Wilson Rule
To those of you who have been living under a rock recently, the so-called "Russell Wilson Rule" is a small loophole in the NCAA transfer rules that says that a student athlete who has completed his Bachelor's degree and still has one or more years of eligibility remaining can leave his current Div 1 insitution and can transfer to another Div 1 institution for graduate school on an athletic scholarship and can play without having to sit out a year. This is provided he enrolls in a graduate program that is not offered at his original school. To my knowledge this is the only situation where a student athlete can transfer to another Div 1 school without having to sit out a year. (This of course primarily applies to Men's FB and BB. I'm not sure how it applies to the non-revenue sports). Maryland has recently been the loser (Danny Obrien) and the winner (Logan Aronholt) under this rule. Apparently this rule has engendered some controversy and I think it would be something worth discussing.
Bruce Campbell traded to Panthers
After his amazing showing at the NFL combine, Bruce was drafted by the Raiders and seemingly fell off the face of the earth. Hopefuly he'll be able to make a new start in Charlotte.
Randy Shannon Anniversary
Randy Shannon was fired by the University of Miami exactly one year ago today. http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=5858214&campaign=rss&source=ESPNUHeadlines
Supposedly, he was close to being hired by Ransy Edsal as DC but declined because he would have lost his $1+ million buyout. Again, according to what I've heard, that restriction was set to end in one year...today!
Funny letter to ACC from Pitt fan
I don't know if anyone else has seen this, but I found it quite entertaining.

Hopkins beats MD LAX 12-11 in OT
Strange game. MD dominant in the first half, up 7-2 at the break. Hopkins dominant in the second. There was a bad non-call of an obvious tripping penalty against Hopkins that would have put MD a man up in the last minute of regulation. Of course MD's man up offense hasn't been all that spectacular this year anyway. They like to score in transition. What is it about half court offense that MD seems to have trouble with in multiple sports?
UNC Coach Williams lambastes UNC fans
http://www.charlotteobserver.com/2011/01/20/1993555/williams-lambastes-unc-talk-show.html#
Roy Williams had some harsh words for some UNC fans who called him on his weekly radio show after a 20 point loss to Georgia Tech. It sems they had the temerity to question his coaching! By the way, he's being paid $400, 000 a year to do the show. The poor dear! Too bad the Tar Heels aren't coming to College Park this year. I could see 15,000 fans holding their cell phones to their ears and chanting COACH ROY, YOU STINK. Do you think KA would have a problem with that?
Franklin to Pitt? WTF?
http://bleacherreport.com/articles/543532-is-james-franklin-maryland-oc-the-new-pitt-head-coach
According to this article in Bleacher report, Franklin may be a candidate for Head Coach at Pitt. What's next, Florida? He seems to be getting a lot of love for a guy whose team was 2-10 last year. It looks pretty obvious that he's going to be somewhere else besides College Park in the very near future. Bon Voyage!
CFN predicts MD vs ND in Champs Bowl
http://cfn.scout.com/2/1026193.html
This morning College Football News predicts that Maryland will play Notre Dame in the Champs Sports Bowl in Orlando FL on Dec 28. Three months ago who would have dreamed that that might happen? I'm sure that Champs Bowl would would have loved to have had Miami for geographic reasons, but after Miami lost their last game and their coach yesterday, that's not likely to happen.
Obama disses Gary!
Look at the "Barack-etology" video clip on ESPN:
http://espn.go.com/video/clip?id=5002940&categoryid=2459792
Obama picks Michigan State to beat Maryland in the second round. OK, that's his perogative. He's been wrong so many times before, what's one more. But listen to his rationale: " Maryland's got a great player, but Michigan State has a great coach." Just how many National Championships do you have to win to be a "great coach". By the way, I haven't heard about anybody in Obama's family winning any National Championships. Anybody up for a march on the White House?
Cavaliers dispatched, Devils turn to Terps

Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski declined to talk about whether the Blue Devils helped their chances for a No.1 regional seed in the NCAA tournament.
But he didn't shy away from the immediate opportunity that's in front of his team. He said he likes Maryland's teamwork under coach Gary Williams and the way point guard Greivis Vasquez is leading the team.
"The game Wednesday will be a big-time game," Krzyzewski said. "Plus it's their senior night, and Vasquez is playing lights out. They're just playing so well. They're the epitome of who Gary is. They're just so tough-minded and good."
