Antwon Blake
Why I'm not upset with the Bryan Anger pick.
This team entered the draft, with two huge needs. Defensive End and Wide Receiver. Everybody knew that, from JAX to New York, everybody knew it. Nobody realized what our 3rd major need, was and that was punter. Our Special teams sucked last year, and punting was terrible. It started out with Matt Turk, and ended with Nick Harris. The play of Special Teams can win you football games, and with not having the ability to pin the opposing team deep in their own territory consistently, is giving the opposing team a better chance to score. So you can argue that, if the Jaguars consistently pinned teams deep in their own territory, they would have ended the season with more Wins, because a lot of our games were close. Pinned deep, and forced to punt, we get the all back, and they don't get that last drive score.
Who was left on the board:(not in order)
1. Brandon Brooks G Miami(Ohio)
2. Jamell Flemming CB Oklahoma
3. Tyrone Crawford DE Boise State
4. Mohamed Sanu WR Rutgers
5. Dwight Bentley CB Louisiana-Lafayette
6. T.Y. Hilton WR Floridia International
7. Brandon Thompson DT Clemson
I'd rather take Sanu or Hilton, but this pick doesn't bother me. The Jaguars supposedly had him at the top of their board. So the BAP at a position of need, and everyone is upset, supposedly the Rams were going to take him. And we trolled them once again.
2012 NFL Draft: #33-#38 mock
Round 1 was completed last night. And round 2 starts in about an hour, followed by round 3. I'm very excited, and here's my mock up to the Jaguars #38 selection.
Michael Irvin on Justin Blackmon at the OSU Pro day. Says he will be the best receiver to ever play in the NFL.
Sport Science: Justin Blackmon. Pretty sick. He can get up higher than Plaxico Burress can to grab a football, and can make some really acrobatic catches.
Lions are legitimately pursuing options to trade up. Corner Stephon Gilmore is a player they really like— Jason La Canfora (@JasonLaCanfora) April 26, 2012
2012 Final Mock Draft: Rhett's Take
This is my official final mock, and I'm going to do picks 1-38 like Alfie, Adam, and Brad did. I hope you enjoy.
Rhett's Final Mock Draft
Hello, I'm pretty sure this will be my final mock draft, and I'm going to try to make this as realistic as possible. Enjoy
"Yea you know, it's funny. Every receiver coach, that I've had since I've been in the league, has trained under Jerry Sullivan. So I knew about him before, I ever met him. A lot of players have talked about him. He's coached, you know, a number of guys through out the league, and throughout his career, so his reputation truly proceeded him, and I think it's a tremendous opportunity, and a really good blessing for me to just get a chance to work with him, and go through this journey."
Lee Evans on Jerry Sullivan
Rhett's 2 Round Mock Draft
I posted this at BCC yesterday, hope you Enjoy!
Rhett's 2 Round Mock Draft
I havn't done a mock draft with all teams in quite a while, so I'm going to do one now, hope you guys enjoy it.
The Best Available Player at #7
Everybody always talks about how Gene Smith always selects the BAP player. The BAP on his board is taken. His board is usually different than most other GMs as he has small school prospect further up the board, along with high character blue collar type players. He doesn't care what position they play or what college they are from, he chooses the BAP. Now if the the BAP player is a position that we are best at, he'll likely skip over that player on his board. For example, if available Trent Richardson is likely not going to be the pick.
He took Eugene Monroe at #8 in 2009, Monroe was supposed to be the #2 overall pick, and Gene got very lucky that he slid so far. Nobody expected him to be the pick. The Rams were supposed to select him. The Jaguars were supposed to select Mark Sanchez or Heyward-Bey. Well Monroe was the Best Available Player, so Gene Smith snagged him.
He took Tyson Alualu at #10 in 2010, Alualu was supposed to be a late first rounder to early second rounder. The Jaguars were supposed to select Derrick Morgan, C.J. Spiller, or Tim Tebow. Nobody expected that to happen at all. I'm not lying, back then I didn't follow the draft as much, and only knew the top 25 prospects, and when I heard his name, I had to run to my computer to look him up.
In 2011, many people mocked Ryan Kerrigan to the Jaguars at #16. The Redskins went on the clock, and Gene Smith saw the Best Available Player falling. I'm not sure if Gene had him as his #1 QB, but I did. I liked him better than Cam Newton, and some teams felt the same way. Many thought he was going to be taken at #8, but the Titans to Jake Locker, and we all remember Gabbert's dumbfounded face after that selection.
So as we can see from Gene's last 3 seasons as GM. The consensus mock draft selections, have all been way off. Nobody expected Monroe to slide to #8, or Gene to "reach" for Alualu, or trade up for Gabbert.
Now we know that the first two picks in the draft are going to be Andrew Luck and Robert Griffin III, with likely Luck to the Colts and Griffin to the Redskins, but neither are set in stone yet.
The names not striken through, are the players I think that will be selected by these respected teams
1. Indianapolis Colts - Andrew Luck/Robert Griffin III
2. Washington Redskins - Robert Griffin III/Andrew Luck
3. Minnesota Vikings - Matt Kalil/Morris Claiborne/Justin Blackmon
4. Cleveland Browns - Ryan Tannehill/Justin Blackmon/Riley Rieff
5. Tampa Bay Bucaneers - Morris Claiborne/Riley Rieff/Justin Blackmon
6. St. Louis Rams - Justin Blackmon/Riley Rieff
The Jacksonville Jaguars are on the clock.
The Jaguars have two major needs at Wide Receiver and Defensive End.
They can take Michael Floyd to fill the WR need.
Or
They can take Quinton Coples or Melvin Ingram to fill the WR DE need.
That is what most mock drafters think the Jaguars will do, is select a wide receiver or defensive end. I believe they will go another route. And it has to do with the offensive line. Now you are thinking Jonathan Martin and Riley Rieff. Well I'm thinking about somebody else. Who am I thinking of? And here's a hint, it's not a position drafted in the top 10, and the last one to be selected in the top 10, was at #10 in 1997.
What position am I talking about?
Guard
What player am I talking about?
7. David DeCastro
The two arguments I'm going to receive for this pick are:
1. Don't select guards in the top 10.
2. We don't need a guard.
In my defense:
1. I don't think Gene cares when other people think players should be selected.
2. Rackley can be upgraded, and can be taught to play Center, or DeCastro can be taught to play Center.
Why draft him?
Impression: The best offensive line prospect I've evaluated since Maurkice Pouncey in 2010. He showcases the ability to get a push in-line and is a dominant move player as well. He's fluid/natural in pass protection and with a little more power in his base he's got the skill set to become on of the leagues best guards early in his NFL career.
http://www.nationalfootballpost.com/college_player_scouting_report.html&player=42578
Rackley's ceiling is a good starter. DeCastro has the potential "to become one of the leagues best guards early in his NFL career." Blaine needs better protection, and DeCastro can help seal the line up the middle, and can provide better run blocking up the middle, something Maurice Jones-Drew has missed since Vince Manuwai left.
So the chance to finally solidify the Jaguars O-Line has arisen, and people think the Jaguars should take Melvin Ingram a guy who may not translate well to the NFL at DE, or Quinton Coples who has questions regarding his commitment and his pass rushing ability, or Michael Floyd who has multiple DUIs. If Guard was considered a premier position, DeCastro would be considered a top 3 player by every one.
With the 7th pick in the 2012 NFL Draft, the Jacksonville Jaguars select David DeCastro, Offensive Guard, Stanford.
Mayock: This is a great pick...
Rhett: Yes!
Kiper: This is a horrible pick, Gene Smith what's wrong with you?
I know some of you are going to say, "Why doesn't he just trade back and take DeCastro", well he might be gone, and you need two teams to trade, and Gene might not be able to trade back, if there is no team willing to trade up.
Rhett's Jaguars Mock
I'm sorry if you are getting tired of these, but I enjoy doing them, especially when I'm bored. This is assuming there are no trades. Also this mock draft is more of what I think will happen, and not what I want to happen necessarily.
1(#7). Melvin Ingram DE South Carolina - A really good pass rusher. He has a good rip move, spin move, and a good bull rush, has great technique, and speed to get around the corner. A blue-collar guy, and is a Gene Smith guy. His only con is his size, as he is 6'1" with short arms. But he is also very versatile, and can play 43 DE, 43 DT, 34 DE, and 34 OLB. Will be a really good player. He's the type of guy who you can rotate around your defense.
2(#40.) Mohamed Sanu WR Rutgers - The Jaguars need a Z receiver, somebody who can start across from Robinson. Sanu can come in and start day 1, and be a really good player. He's a good receiver, who has a strong body that he uses to shield off defenders to make catches. Has big strong hands who is very reliable and makes a lot of tough catches, he's very hard to press at the line, and gets off the line quick. Route running needs some work, but Jerry Sullivan can help him with that, and not a big play threat. He'll make 7 and 8 yard catches all game. But you will rarely see him catch anything over 30 yards. Something to note, is Sanu never had a good QB, and was constantly targeted by his poor QB, if it was a pass play, the defense already knew where the ball was being thrown, and it was often a poor pass.
3(#70). Brian Quick WR Appalachian State - Slides right into Gene Smith's lap. He's a big receiver 6'4" 220 lbs, with long arms He's not very fast, as he's a 4.55 guy, and isn't very quick, and isn't a good route runner. And he tends to drop some easy balls. But with some coaching, can turn into a really good player, he has very high potential, and Sullivan can turn him into a great.
4(#101). Ladarius Green TE UL Lafayette - Might have to start out in the NFL as a receiver, until he learns how to block. If he does become a full time tight end, he will have to bulk up from about 238 lbs to at least 250. He's 6'6" and ran a 4.53 40 at the combine, which is faster than Brian Quick. Lined up at tight end, if teams put a linebacker on him, it'll turn out deadly, because it's like putting a linebacker on a receiver. He's a great athlete, and at 6'6" with a 35" vertical and 34.5" arms, Gabbert can easily toss it up to Green, and know he will be coming down with it. Needs some work on route running. But a guy like this, can really help Gabbert's development.
5(#142). Levy Addock OT Oklahoma State - A depth pick, a guy who can possibly be a low end starter at Right Tackle or Guard with some development.
6(#174). Ryan Davis DE Bethune-Cookman - A small school guy who the Jaguars have already looked at. At Bethune-Cookman's pro day, Davis had a personal workout with Joe Cullen, per nfldraftscout.com He's 6'2.5" 259 lbs. He had 21 TFL and 12 sacks last season. He is considered a pass rushing specialist, and has good snap anticipation and good burst. Will need some time to develop, and hopefully doesn't turn into another Larry Hart. But he is a 6th round pick, so if he doesn't make the roster, the Jags didn't risk anything.
7(#228). Dale Moss WR South Dakota State - His stock is rising, and Gene would be very happy to land him here. He only played 1 year of NCAA football, as he was a basketball player, but he's a work out warrior with a 4.38-4.45 40 yard dash, 41.5' vert, 10'10" broad, and 6.32 3 cone drill. That 6.32 3 cone drill is .18 faster than Chris Rainey's fastest 3-cone drill at the combine. What is also funny is Chris Rainey is 5'8" and excels at agility and quickness drills. Most short prospects do excel at those drills. Moss is 6'3" 213 lbs.

Rhett's Offense Prospect Rankings by Position
Hi guys, I'm going to show you guys my Offense Prospect Rankings by position, it's not too deep, so bare with me.
Another Jaguars Mock Draft
Care to use this as a mock draft threat if you like. Enjoy!
Why a trade back might occur.
Most Jaguars fans, are hoping the Jaguars can trade back in the NFL Draft, because we need a receiver across from Laurent Robinson, and none are worthy of the 7th pick in the draft. Gene even said, that he would entertain offers.
Tania Ganguli@taniaganguli
#Jaguars GM Gene Smith says he would clearly entertain offers for the 7th pick. "I know there's a lot of interest in Tannehill.
15 Mar 12
As of 3/17/12, the team's needs are:
Wide Receiver: The Jaguars have the guy they wanted, to start as the X receiver. The X receiver is usually the deep threat, and he warrants the most attention. We still need a Z receiver. The Z receiver is typically a possession receiver. A common examples of this is...Donald Driver and Greg Jennings(of 2 years ago), Jennings was the X and Driver was the Z. So we have our X, now we need our Z. There are some guys out there who can fill the position via free agency, and Mike Thomas can do it as well, but I'd think it'd be better if somebody new was brought in. Via the draft, we can get Justin Blackmon, Michael Floyd, Stephen Hill, Mohamed Sanu, etc. None are worthy of the top 10, although Blackmon will likely be selected within the top 5, with Floyd and Hill likely being selected in the top 20. A trade back, will allow us to select a receiver, filling our biggest need, and gain more picks.
Defensive End: If we failed to resign Mincey, this would be the biggest need as we would have both End positions with big ?s. Mincey had a nice season generating constant pressure, and gained 8 sacks, although 5 were against the Colts. Across from him, we have nobody. For some odd reason, I feel that Gene Smith thinks Aaron Kampman will start across from Mincey, as we haven't signed a defensive end, and Kampman is still on the team with a $5,000,000 salary, yet he failed to generate any statistics last season. If we were to address this position in the 1st, it would have to be at #7, because once Melvin Ingram and Quinton Coples are selected, there isn't much left for the Jaguars to get, because the ends in this draft are just not that good. We need a starter, depth isn't that bad, as most of our guys are coming off IR, and we can always resign Douzable.
Cornerback: Mathis has been resigned, but did tear his ACL in November, and may not be healthy by the start of the season. He says he will, but what if the injury re-occurs, as most ACL tears do. We need a guy to step in and be solid, and maybe be his replacement. Morris Claiborne will likely be gone, but Janoris Jenkins and Dre Kirkpatrick should be available. Both those players, have major red flags, so will likely not be on the Jaguars' radar.
Teams that may consider trading up:
First of all, I think Peyton Manning will go to Denver, and Matt Flynn will go to Miami.
Kansas City Chiefs(#11) - Many people are unhappy with Matt Cassel, especially with that big contract, that he hasn't deserved. Trading up, and taking Ryan Tannehill would be a smart move, then releasing Cassel and signing a veteran who can start for a year or two for a lot cheaper, like David Garrard, would also be a smart move.
Seattle Seahawks(#12) - The Seahawks will likely miss out on Peyton Manning, and Matt Flynn will likely choose elsewhere also. They need a franchise quarterback, and Ryan Tannehill can be there guy.
Cleveland Browns(#22) - The Browns can select Justin Blackmon at #4, and trade up and grab their franchise QB at #7, but it has been reported, that Colt McCoy is being favored to be the starting QB. If RG3 was available at #4, they would most likely select him, but I doubt they go out of their way, to grab a guy to unseat McCoy, who has had a 74.5 QB rating the past 2 seasons, yet having literally no weapons, besides his running back, who is now a Chief.
New England Patriots(?) - The Patriots have the ammo to do whatever they want in the draft, they can trade up, trade back, stay put. They may consider trading up and grabbing Courtney Upshaw, as they need a pass rusher. Or grab Melvin Ingram to play the 5-tech Defensive End position in their 3-4. Maybe grab Michael Floyd, or take a cornerback.
What what would we be getting out of these trades?

http://www.drafttek.com/tradechart.html
This is a draft trade chart, and uses a point system to mock trades.
Kansas City Chiefs - Their #11 selection is worth 1,250 points, and our #7 selection is worth 1,500. That leaves 250 points left on the table, which is their 3rd round pick(#75; 215) and their 5th round pick(#139; 36.5). 215 + 36.5 =251.5...So it would be 1,500 = 1,501.5 So the Jaguars would be trading their #7 selection for the Chiefs #11, #75 and #139 selection.
Seattle Seahawks - The difference between the Chiefs #11 selection and the Seahawks #12 selection is 50 points. So besides the #12 pick(worth 1,200), we would need about 300 points, which is their 3rd round pick(#76; 210) and their 4th round pick(107; 80). Now they have 40 more points of value, so to even it out the Jaguars can throw in their 5th round pick(#135; 38.5) Making the difference only 1.5 points. So the Jaguars would be trading their #7 and #135 selections for the Seahawks #12, #76, and #107 selections. The Seahawks also don't have a 5th round pick, so that is why I used the 4th and our 5th.
Cleveland Browns - Their #22 selection is worth 780 points, and ours is worth 1,500. That's 720 points, which is a lot. They already think that McCoy is their starter, so this is a lot less likely, when they can be adding weapons. For this trade to occur, the Browns would need to trade their 2nd round pick(#37; 530) and both their 4th round picks(#101; 96)(#119; 56). Those 3 picks equal 682 points. Which makes a difference of 38 points. So the Browns would throw in their 5th round pick(#132; 40). So the Jaguars would trade their #7 selections for the Browns #22, #101, #119, #132 selections. Gene Smith would gain nothing, but praise for this, and he'd have a field day, but I highly doubt this occurs.
New England Patriots - The Patriots have two 1st rounds picks(#27; 680)(#31; 600) which is 1,280 points, which leaves a difference of 220 points. The Patriots can then throw in one their #48 2nd round pick(420) and the Jaguars then throw in their 3rd round pick(#71; 235). That leaves 35 points left for the Patriots to add, but I'm sure Gene Smith would be happy with two 1st round picks and another 2nd round pick for their 1st and 3rd.
Out of these four, I think only two might happen, and two are very unlikely. The most likely is the Seahawks, followed by the Chiefs, because they arn't giving up that much for something they really need, a franchise QB. And the Browns and Patriots are giving up a ton for something they either don't need that badly, or something they can find later in the draft. Also remember, that future picks would most likely be used as well.
Assuming the Jaguars trade back with the Seahawks, here is a Jaguars mock draft.
1(#12): Michael Floyd WR Notre Dame
2(#40): Vinny Curry DE Marshall
3(#71): Josh Norman CB Coastal Carolina
3(#76): Marvin McNutt WR Iowa
4(#102): LaMichael James RB Oregon
4(#107): Chris Givens WR Wake Forest
6(#166): Rhett Ellison TE USC
7(#213): James Carmon OT Mississippi State
Floyd - He is the best receiver in the draft, in my opinion, but is stock falls due to his red flags. I think Gene will try not making this pick, but the talent is just too hard to not pick. He will be a great receiver across from Robinson, and can turn into one of the greats. As long as he stays out of trouble, the Jaguars will benefit from this pick for the next 10 years, atleast. Also, I'm assuming that Robinson is the only WR we sign via free agency.
Curry - Has a very slow 40, but the talent is there, and I'm sure he'll run faster at his pro day. Under Joe Cullen, he can turn into a good pass rusher.
Norman - He has great talent, as well. He can cover most receivers, and will eventually replace Mathis with another good corner.
McNutt - Can be a low-end starter in league given time. He'll likely serve as the #4 receiver on the team behind Mike Thomas.
James - He's still available, and can be that Darren Sproles type scat back, that this team can use. He would replace Deji/Dujuan.
Givens - Would likely compete with Shorts for the #5 spot, he is a good route runner, and is capable of making multiple guys miss, also ran a 4.41 40 at the combine. Also a returner.
Ellsion - A tight end, with a higher ceiling than Potter.
Carmon - This is a guy, who we select with a late round pick, to ensure we get him. He would be a project, and likely get placed on the Practice Squad, but at 6'7" 320 lbs, and loaded with power, might be able to develop into a solid reserve guard.
My Jaguars Free Agency Mock
This is not based on what I want, this is how I think free agency will play out for us.
Who do the Jaguars select at #7 in the Draft?
I have finally found myself a little spare time...at 3:30 EST, I'm not tired, so I decided to hop on and write a little article for you all. The first pick of the draft is sealed. The second pick of the draft is sealed. The third pick of the draft is likely sealed. I'm going to go over the needs of the teams #4-#7, and will go explain who I think will be selected before us. Enjoy!
Final Mock Offseason by Rhett
Hello everybody, sorry for my absence as of late, I'm just checking in, and decided to make my final mock offseason as free agency begins next week. Enjoy!
Possible Free Agency Receiver Gem
Was doing a little research on the receiver free agents, and I found a guy, who may find him self in Jacksonville come March. He won't start, but can possibly be a slot, or a #4 guy, who can make an impact. Not posting on front page, because I don't think it belongs on the front page. His name is Andre Caldwell...
