I live in Ottawa. In 1994 I was driving by a local Golf Club where they were hosting the du Maurier Ltd Classic. At that time it was a major on the LPGA tour.
It was a Sunday. I decided to take a look. I bought a ticket went in and watched Some great golf and some great golfers. Dottie Pepper, Michelle McCann, Dawn Coe-Jones and golfing legend Nancy Lopez to name a few.
I enjoyed the experience immensely. After I would occasionally watch am LPGA tournament on TV.
This August the LPGA was back in Ottawa with the CN Canadian Women's Open.
I took the week off work and went all seven days. It was a blast. 48 of the top 50 on the money list were there. I spent hours walking around with Annika, Lorena, Paula and many others. I am not an autograph type person but could not resist getting Annika's.
Now I am hooked. I am reading something about the LPGA multiple times a week.
I am planning to go to the Wegman's tournament next June. It will be a long time before the LPGA returns to Ottawa but in the meantime I will try to take in a tournament every couple of years.
Next year (2009) will be the first year I follow the season in its entirety.
I am looking forward to that experience. For now I will follow until this year closes out. Perhaps in the future I will start looking at the Futures tour to see the up and comers.
