OC Greg Olson signed to contract extension
Well folks, the title says it all. Just breaking the news ;)
Bucs signed offensive coordinator Greg Olson to a contract extension.
Terms of the deal aren't known, but Olson will definitely return as the Bucs' playcaller in 2010. The deal is a plus for rookie QB Josh Freeman, who will have continuity and has shown promise in his three starts. Olson comes from the Scott Linehan style of offense, which takes vertical shots and requires a big-armed, aggressive quarterback. Freeman possesses those qualities.
Once again from my trusty website: www.rotoworld.com With this move, i'm sure he will be here for some time. I really just hope we see some progress in the run game, so we can run some play-action to -Michael Clayton- our receivers. Stay tuned for more updates, and more importantly, GO BUCS!!!!! -RJ

DC Jim Bates relieved of play calling duties
I'm sure there will be a larger article posted about this in the near future, but i just wanted to get the early word out:
I got this from my most reliable website: rotoworld.com
Bucs coach Raheem Morris has relieved Jim Bates of defensive coordinator duties and will take over defensive play-calling responsibilities.
The 1-9 Bucs have the league's worst run defense, allowing 168.9 yards per game, and allow the second-most points in the league at 29.4. Bates will remain with the team to help Morris out with game-planning, but Morris is expected to return the team to their familiar Tampa Two scheme. The Bucs have very few playmakers on defense and didn't change personnel in the offseason to help out Bates' new 4-3 scheme.
Personally, i think this is a great idea. I don't think Bates has the right players right now for his scheme. No pressure in our line, letting big plays to take place in the man to man coverage. I rarely saw blitzes, and our run defense is dead last in the NFL. What do you guys think? Let's see what Raheem Morris has up his sleeve. Hopefully he has some 'Kiffin' in him ;)
GO BUCS!!!!

B.J. Askew out for season
Well, the title says it all, just some quick news I heard. This kind of stinks, because IMO he's a great blocker and pass catching full back.
Both from www.buccaneers.com and www.rotoworld.com.
I thought he was just in a 'fender bender'...
Earnest Graham will resume blocking duties. Askew has four years left on his contract with the Bucs.
I hope our run game can go strong for the rest of our season.
GO BUCS!!! :)

Jermaine Philips
Well guys, it looks like things are just getting worse for our Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Updating the previous item, the Buccaneers will now continue the season without Jermaine Phillips, as he was put on Injured Reserve today..
It came out earlier today, i figured i'd post it. It's a tad late.
Some random thoughts: on this: we need to lift our defense up (whatever's left of them). We need to give them some of the 'magical water' they gave to the players in Space Jam. I nearly had a heart attack when i saw Talib with his back on the ground in Buffalo. WHEW he got back up. Had he not, it would have been Barber, Mack, and Cox. Now with Phillips gone, we have the outstanding safety (cough) Sabby Piscitelli, along with Will Allen at his side (former starter).
Our elite (cough) pass rush led by Gaines Adams with a grand total of ZERO sacks need to step it up big-time. Against Buffalo this past Sunday, i saw our players getting some pressure, but definitely not enough to get into the quarterback's head. Our run defense was el horrible.
And is it me?....or has our team not looked hyped up at all these first two games? (IMO) I see the other teams flying around the field with confidence. As for ours, we just kinda mope around. Could be just me...
As of week two, the Buccaneers are 4th in total offense, and 31st in total defense.
O wait...no-no, never mind?....that ^ was no typo.
Also, did anyone see a point in having Josh Johnson in on some of the run plays? Unless it's wildcat or a trick play, how about putting in someone who can BLOCK (clayton)....?
If you haven't figured it out yet, this is going to be a long season for our Bucs. I say Adams get benched, put Stylez G White in his spot. Move Piscitelli to Free Safety til Tanard gets back. Keep Geno at weakside, and Black at strong. And get the run game going EARLY. We have great backs, come on Raheem, let's quit falling in early holes. No team wins throwing a billion times.
In closing, Go Bucs!
14-2...? (that may be pushing it a bit...)

Starting QB...
Raheem Morris announced he will reveal the starting quarterback after the second preseason game, so the first team offense can get in a rhythm, and know who their leader is...
So i just got back from reading an article at www.pewterreport.com, and it was about the announcement. So i scrolled down to read some of the comments from the fans, and boy-oh-boy do we have mixed reviews...
I've been thinking recently how our team would fair with each scenario. A lot of people have been bagging on Luke McCown because he's not showing 'the fire' he claims to have. I personally don't think he should start for us. Leftwitch...ehhh i'm not all too happy about. Freeman, well, he has much to learn. But a new name was brought up in the discussion, Josh Johnson. Sure he's not talked about much, and when you talk about the Tampa Bay qb's, you think McCown, Leftwich, and Freeman.
Where does Josh Johnson fit? He's Gruden's project...5th round pick from San Diego. Threw 44 TD's and 1 INT his senior year. But that was a small college. Somehow, he's stuck around. He has poise in the pocket, and made a couple nice throws. Not just in the last game, but last year's preseason too. He can also make plays with his feet.
People at that site were calling McCown to get cut, and Josh Johnson to stay...to start, or back-up Leftwitch. We then keep Freeman as our third.
I agree, McCown to be cut (but darnit we signed him to a 2yr deal...). After 6 years, he's done nothing spectacular. Sure, he's a great guy, great attitude, and a great athlete, but really? A leader? I don't think he is capable of leading us. Maybe i'm wrong, and all the talk is getting to my head. Call me crazy, but I want to see Josh Johnson play. Maybe not starter, but at least see what he's got against some first stringers. I feel we're not really giving him a chance. Please Raheem, make the right decision...
Well, anyways, let me know what you think! Who would you like to see as starter on day 1? And who is capable of being backup???
Whatever happens, we should all be supportive ;)

Hey guys! Bucs fan here! (little input on Simms)
hey guys, this is Rjblitz02 coming in from www.bucem.com
As a die-hard Bucs fan, i would recommend Chris Simms as starter hands down. When he played for us, he played for a stupid west coast system, and was constantly dogged by coach Jon Gruden. (and you know how the QB situation goes for Gruden).
When i watched Simms play, i really thought he was our franchise quarterback :( . That lefty had a laser arm, and stood firm in the pocket. THAT BOY CAN THROW. Then he had that horrible spleen injury, which officially kicked him off our roster. In my opinion, he can take the spot Cutler left to fill. Not the bit&hy attitude part, but i believe he is a terrific quarterback, with great pocket presence.
Orton threw 3 INT's in one half of play...against the 49ers...(wooh?)
You pick. Hopefully Mcdaniels won't mess up this quarterback decision.
From www.bucem.com,

Good luck this season Denver Broncos, and please please please give Simms this opportunity to start!

Quarterback situation not as it seems...?
Hey guys, it's RJ and i just read an interesting article credit to bucscentral.com .
http://www.bucscentral.com/general-news/things-are-not-what-they-appear-at-qb
The signal caller that judged our qb's at last Wednesday's practice said that Josh Freeman looked like our number 1, and Josh Johnson looked like our number 2. Just wanted to hear some input and thought i'd let you guys in on some stuff i read.
I honestly don't think that we can judge any of this until each qb gets a try in the preseason/REAL games. My vote is McCown/Leftwich as opening day starter, and like many others are predicting, Freeman starter by the time we get back from London.
GO BUCS!

Aqib Talib starts a brawl at OTA's...
Bucs CB Torrie Cox reportedly sustained facial fractures in a minicamp brawl between CB Aqib Talib and LT Donald Penn Wednesday.
Talib, who's been running his mouth all spring, reportedly tried to hit Penn with his helmet but accidentally struck Cox. Cox was cut in the eye and nose area. It's uncertain if he'll need surgery. Brawling is nothing new for Talib, who also got into a fight with Bucs seventh-round pick Cory Boyd at last year's Rookie Symposium. He may face some in-house discipline.Hey guys, i credit this information to rotoworld.com
http://www.rotoworld.com/content/playernews.aspx?sport=NFL
Man, im speechless. Way to go Talib, hopefully Morris opens a can of whoop-ass on him. So lets see, maybe he gets the 'Steve Smith' treatment, four game suspension... what do you guys think? How do you feel, and how do you think he should be disciplined?
I personally think he's a HECK of an athlete, however this is just unnacceptable. I say four game suspension, and practice in a pink dress til the preseason, eh?

JASON TAYLOR???...
Hey everybody, just wanted to let you know some info on DE Jason Taylor. I frequently visit this website: www.rotoworld.com for all my fantasy news. But is a VERY good source for NFL news. It's where i hear everything first, from every team. Deffinitely not a biased site, and is updated by the minute!
To the point, here is what it said at roughly 8:00pm today:
The Buccaneers have entered the bidding for free agent Jason Taylor, according to the St. Petersburg Times.
The fit makes lots of sense because Bucs defensive boss Jim Bates knows Taylor well from their Miami days. The Pats and Fins are also knows to have interest. The Bucs would play Taylor at left end, where he struggled last year. http://www.rotoworld.com/content/playerpages/player_main.aspx?sport=NFL&id=1305 is the website.I think Jason Taylor would be a GREAT addition to our defense. We can get him to mentor -young- Gaines Adams and other DE's, and he would be united with Jim Bates. Can you imagine him and Gaines opposite of eachother??? Let's hear it guys, i want to know what you think!

Cornerback most glaring need. What do you guys think?
Hey everybody, I am a longtime Bucs fan and i honestly think cornerback is the most glaring need on our team. The other positions everyone is saying we need help at is quarterback, defensive line, and wide reciever. I hope to shoot those down and hopefully get some feedback what you guys think we should get.
For quarterback, we just signed Byron Leftwich, and have Luke McCown as either starter or backup. I think going with either of the two would be solid for our position. Although they are not 'superbowl' quarterbacks, we DO have weapons for them, and they aren't aweful.
For defensive line, i think we 'can' be solid. Jerry and Raji -the two most popular Defensive Linemen in the draft, are actually smaller than what is needed in Jim Bate's system. I have faith in Sims and Wilkerson to plug up those holes (but thats just me).
Although we are short in depth at wide reciever, i feel like we will be fine. Unlike many other Bucs fans, i have faith in Michael Clayton, but i think this is his last year to prove it. He is the next Hines Ward, but he needs TO CATCH THE BALL to be listed as a wide reciever. Besides that, i think Winslow and Stevens over the middle will open up things for Antonio Bryant on the outside, and as a third reciever, we will have to see what the preseason brings us. Paris Warren, Kelley Campbell, Anthony Mix, are all capable guys. Besides, the draft has ALOT of depth at this position, so it won't hurt to wait i guess.
Lastly, CORNERBACK. This part is going to be short and to the point. We have Ronde Barber and Aquib Talib as our starters, and Elbert Mack in the Nickel. How do we function with just 3 corners??? We don't even know how capable Mack is! That leaves two starters, and teams like the Cowboys and Patriots would tear us apart! So what now? I think Alphonso Smith or Vontae Davis should be there at 19 and we should take them.
I say if Heward-Bey or one of the CB's are available at 19, DEFF TAKE THEM. None of the Josh Freeman-Peria crap. Take a starter, not a project...
