Yahoo's Duk has a few good reasons why the Rox shouldn't be counted out just yet.

"The Rockies on Wednedsay made a move to protect their rotation in case of injury, signing veteran Tim Redding to a one-year minor-league deal, according to a major-league source." -- Troy E. Renck

"A busy day of contracts signings continued today as the Rockies avoided arbitration with Jason Hammel on a one-year, $1.9-million contract.

Acquired from Tampa Bay before last season, Hammel emerged as a solid fifth starter for Colorado. He went 10-8 with a 4.33 ERA. He projects as Colorado’s fifth starter entering this year."

"Troy Renck reports that the Rockies made a two-year offer worth $4.5-6MM. The two sides continue to talk and they could reach a deal tonight. Miguel Olivo (and Josh Bard) is (are) currently a fallback option(s) for the Rockies."

Purple Row Which Purple Row writing prospect is your favorite so far?

Just as a quick question for everyone that frequents this site...

Personally, I think all writers have been doing an excellent job. I enjoy reading their posts and I think their insight contributes nicely.  It will be even better when there are actually baseball games going on to talk about!

I'm excited because any way you slice it, it will only make for a better Purple Row.

Good luck to the 6 prospective writers.

Purple Row Avalanche vs. Oilers Game Thread

Hey there to all you out there in PurpleRow land. I hope if you have good sense you'll go to a real hockey blog to get this kinda info, but being as this is a test and all I'll do my best.

The Avs are coming of a 5-2 loss to the Blues, behind a lack luster goaltending performance by Peter Budaj,. Budaj made 21 saves and looked overmatched from the begining. He has had good numbers against the Oilers in the past (11-3-2 & 2.44 GAA) but there is still a good chance we’ll see Andrew Raycroft in net tonight. I believe that Raycroft gives the best chance to win in general. The teams are tied with 45 points each, putting them both 2 points out of the playoffs, so this game/season series could have big playoff implications coming down the stretch if the standings remain similar.

So I’ve given you the vitals, let’s get to commenting GO AVS!
