I played catcher through high school in Garland at Lakeview Centennial, but I was most productive on the bench where I dreamed of playing catcher at UT. The one claim I can make to an interesting baseball event is that our Pony League team was one win from the Pony League World Series.

Righthander Danny Gutierrez's power curve wasn't quite as nasty as Matt Thompson's the day before, but it's a true swing-and-miss pitch.

A legitimate reason to be stoked about Chris Davis next year

11

Davis may have had a big moment in the last week of last season when he fought back from an 0-2 count against Tampa Bay left-hander David Price. The at-bat, which lasted nine pitches, ended with Davis singling to left. From that moment until the season's end a week later, Davis went 9-for-22 (.409) while facing guys such as John Lackey and Felix Hernandez. "It was like a breakthrough," Davis said of the at-bat. "I put my ego aside, choked up on the bat and did what I needed to help the team. I think I had a moment of enlightenment. I can hit with two strikes. That gave me something to fall back on when I've got to battle. I've got a plan of attack."

Sickels on Dominguez: "Remember this guy?"

1

Sickels posted a review of the top 50 pitching prospects in 2005. Here are the Rangers: 36) Thomas Diamond, RHP, Rangers: Working his way back from arm problems. Still has a slight chance. 39) John Danks, LHP, Rangers: 31-33, 4.06 ERA, 114 ERA+ in 534 innings. Bad rookie season but has been very strong since. 43) Juan Dominguez, RHP, Rangers: 5-10, 4.60 ERA, 104 ERA+ in 110 innings. Remember this guy? He looked really good for a bit, but got hurt. I hope the blockquotes work. Is "got hurt" a euphemism for "lacked a brain".

Last but certainly not least, Magallanes' Elvis Andrus, playing in his first game of the season, went 4-for-4 with a double and two runs batted in. He also stole a base.

Offseason TORP, LHRP, Lefty Masher

With not all that much to talk about right now, I'm putting out some ideas of where the Rangers might look to fill their three holes: a LHP-mashing hitter, TORP, lefty bullpen specialist. I hope...

Rangers 2009, easily the best season of the oughts decade

Although the 2009 season is essentially over, it is, without a doubt, the best season the Rangers have had since their 5-year peak in the late 1990s. Here are a few things I can recall over the...

May 30, 2009: The day the Rangers left the PECOTA projections in the dust. The Rangers have finally built a lead large enough that if all teams played at their pre-season PECOTA for the remainder of the season, the Rangers would still have the highest likelihood of winning the division.
