Rockies Top 11 - Kevin Goldstein
System In 20 Words Or Less: There’s a good combination of near big league-ready talent and youngsters to dream on.
Yoenis Cespedes: The Showcase
Cuban player that defected and sticks out this scouting video on youtube. Just about the strangest thing I have ever seen, the breakdown by BP's Kevin Goldstein (@Kevin_Goldstein) is awesome.
Redskins also signed former Broncos RB Ryan Torain
Redskins also signed former Broncos RB Ryan Torain, and WR Marques Hagans and Roydell Williams.
Will be interesting to see how he bounces back, I remember there was quite a bit of hype with him coming from ASU, he looked great in college every time I got a chance to watch ASU
RHP Justin Speier was granted his release.
RHP Justin Speier was granted his release. He will retire if he can't get a big league job, but door is open for him at AAA Colo Springs.
Powder Blue out Saturday
This weekend to protest Hawkins, people are trying to organize everyone to wear powder blue. If you have any nuggets gear, that blue is perfect.
If your too young to remember the 80's(me) or don't remember, here's the facebook group's explaination.
During the early 1980s the University of Colorado Football Teams were some of the worst in the history of this Top 20 All-Time Winningest Program. During those dreadful years, our team wore POWDER BLUE. That's right: POWDER BLUE.
This year will be our 4th losing season in a row, which hasn't happened since 1979-1984 (6 seasons) when we wore that disgusting powder blue for a few seasons.
Wearing POWDER BLUE to the game this Saturday (Nov. 7) against Texas A&M Aggies will show our University Officials where we think our current regime stands. With the worst of the worst.
The POINT OF THIS is NOT to disrespect the players that bust their ass many days of the week. It is to show that we want a change in the people controlling this team.
Not going to the game is not being a fan. Go to the game supporting the your University's football team, but wear POWDER BLUE to show your frustrations.
The right people will know what it means by us doing this. If enough people do it, it will not go unnoticed, I promise!!
SPREAD THE WORD!!

ESPN Football Today Super Fan
Hey guys, read the site a ton, and you guys are the best bronco site I have come across. So I just wanted to help out the broncos image by letting everyone know the following:
Jeremy Green the director of scouts inc over at ESPN has a podcast called Football today. He has a fan represent each team as their "superfan" occasionally having them on the podcast if their game is the game of the week. This week the broncos/ravens was teh game of the week but the Broncos superfan is MIA so he is replacing him.
I couldn't think of anyone better than some of the guys that run this site to represent the fan base.
If your interested email why you think you should be the superfan to footballtoday@espnradio.com
Just mention in the subject line for the Denver superfan.
*The podcast is taped at like 9 est so consider that when you have to call in*
Link to the podcast
http://sports.espn.go.com/espnradio/podcast/archive?id=2544457
It is also on Itunes, and a good way to get the general news going around the league.
Step aside Clark Evans, I have a new man crush.....(and new coach talk)
Nick Hirschman has absolutely torn it up this yr this past weekend going 12/17 413 5 TDs!!!
Although it was sort of a cupcake opponent, I can't wait until next weekend when his team plays the team that just beat the #1 team in the section. This kid looks like we found a beast before he really broke onto the scene and one can only hope that we have a new coach.
If by some luck we are able to get the $$$ to depart with Hawkins I'm scared who we might choose.
Strong.......Please just ignore and let me keep the dream alive
Calhoun......From my earlier FanPost, I have given up hope. He is getting new facilites, his program can give pay raises to assistants(shocking concept isn't it?) and has his young QB's hanging with the likes of TCU and Utah.
Gary Patterson....Really don't see him coming here, why would he? If they go to a BCS bowl, should have much better offer if he wants to leave.
Kevin Sumlin......At this point I'm kind of scared of this hire. Although he has Houston breaking onto the scene, not sure how much it is his coaching compared to Art Briles' building of the program. Briles has started to turn that Baylor program around and I'm so scared of another Hawkins. Is Sumlin the architect or just enjoying Briles foundation.
A name I'm keeping my eye on......Jeremy Bates. The old broncos assistant has USC looking really good coaching up Barkley. Really want I would like to see is how he recriuts. Don't think I want this hire now, as it would be an extremely risky hire but just an name to keep an eye on.
I really have lost all faith in this program and as bad as I want to get rid of Hawk, I hope he can pull this program around for this yr and get us heading in the right track.
Worst announcers ever??
Everyone knows my hatred for the FSN announcers but today went to a WHOLE different level.
After we stopped them near the goal line and we were up 34-30 with about 4(?) ish minutes left, the disaster happened.
The announcer goes on for a solid 10 sec about how CU used up their TO and wondering how much they will risk it.
I think there was a replay of the 4th down, then he continued.
"With a new QB and no TO down near the goaline how risky will CU get to try to get something downfield."
One problem buddy that finally the other announcer pointed out
"CU doesn't need to open it up because they will try to run out the clock up 4."
I don't even mind calling out the wrong player for a half, was that guy seriously watching the same game??
Anyway, good attempt by Hawk to save his job, just need to take care of business in the north and turn this thing around..
Hawkins will be on 104.3 at 5:30 today
Should be really interesting if they h know ave the guts to ask the tough questions.
I really liked the guy, but its becoming more and more obvious that maybe there was a different reason Mark H. left last offseason. Maybe he saw that his offense wouldn't work with Cody and he knew that Dan would never make that change.
Everyone keeps making the stand on this being Tyler's team less each day, and its scary the crap out of me.
Little tidbit on CSU recruiting
Just saw that CSU picked up another commitment so I decided to look at their class
Just amazing to me that CU doesn't expand to recruit other sections of the US when CSU currently has recruits from the following states:
1 CO
1 TX
1 CA
4 FL
Now although they aren't the highest *'s or whatever, just interesting that CSU has reached out and made a serious commitment to recruit CSU when CU hardly touches TX.
Why oh why did we change our schedule
If by some miracle we pull off WVU and end up doing decent in our North (trying to put all my views aside), we may come back to changing the scheduling definetly costing us a win.
Miami(OH) is currently 0-3 and has made ESPN's Bottom 10 at #2 right behind the mighty and powerful Western Kentucky.
Imagine if we didn't have the face the powerhouse that is Toledo (lost 38-0 to OSU) and could have faced Miami. They didn't score a point until this last game
Their schedule
| 9/05 | Kentucky | 0-1 (0-0) | L 42-0 |
| 9/12 | @ No. 12 Boise State | 0-2 (0-0) | L 48-0 |
| 9/19 | @ Western Michigan | 0-3 (0-1) | L 48-26 |
I think even BabyHawk could have put 27 on these guys, and maybe our D could have held them to 24. I don't really care what happens the rest of this year unless the mood really starts to turn from some of the other guys. I won't be able to see many games at all the rest of the way with me working Sat afternoons but that Toledo loss will stick with me for a long while about Hawks future.
This season would be completely different even with how bad we showed up for CSU, if we were 2-1 coming off a dominate game going to WVU.
Cross Troy Calhoun off the wish list
Sitting here watching the replay of AF destroy NM, even though I should probably be studying for my mid-term tomorrow, and heard some interesting things that made me cross Calhoun off the wish list.
The new AD at AF is doing everything in his power to keep Calhoun in the Springs, some of the things he is doing according to the announcers of the game
- After last year got another raise
- Every New Year's Eve he gets an automatic 5 year extension
- AF has the power to keep his assistants there with him at the AF. Everyone on the staff got a 24% raise this year.
- They showed some pictures of a really nice indoor facility planning to be opened in 2011. AF is a non-profit school so they had to raise all 15 million dollars for the project before it was even able to break ground.
- His players are top notch people having ridiculous class schedules so he doesn't have any of these drama kids
With all that together I don't see any reason he would really want to leave the Academy right now to come to the disaster that is the University of Colorado......
Site Suggestion
This was posted by Hallux Valgus but didn't know but didn't know if it was a possibility or not.
For those who spend way too much time following the lives of recruiting and 18 yr old kids (myself included) I was wondering about a tab at the top or somewhere on the board just dedicated to recruiting. I know there are a lot of others on this board that live in colorado and could provide what they think of a kid, and his chances to come to Colorado. Other uses could be to link articles to premium articles that have good content and want others to read but don't want to get in trouble w/ premium content issues so we could just have the links. I know that is kinda what FanShots are for but I know i don't always scroll down to them every time I'm on the site.
For example I know that Hallux thinks Nduka Onyeali from Mullen is a stud and really wants him here and Rivals main editor scouted him last week and has a nice premium article that I think would interest others so I link it.
Don't know if its possible or others would use it, but decided to make this a FanPost instead of emailing the guys to get everyones input
BTW here is the Nduka article...............................Linky
And Highlands Ranch Brooke Jalniker gets a scholarship offer and is going to KU.........Linky
Top Colorado Talent heading out of state
Nice article by ESPN
Didn't see it was insider but linked it just in case
Who's our next coach (gave us a lot of choices)
Was too depressed last night and did a little research but had work, so here goes....
1. Charlie Strong
- UF Defensive Coordinator
Resume Years Title Location 2008-Present Defensive Coordinator, Linebacker Coach & Associate Head Coach Florida 2005-2007 Co-Defensive Coordinator, Linebacker Coach & Assistant Head Coach Florida 2003-2004 Defensive Coordinator & Defensive End Coach Florida 1999-2002 Defensive Coordinator South Carolina 1995-1998 Defensive Line Coach Notre Dame 1991-1994 Assistant Head Coach & Defensive Tackle Coach Florida
Has been in college his entire career. Has been a DC in the SEC since 1999. Knows how to build a beast of a defense at florida has been in command of that defense since '03. I honestly believe he would jump at just about any opportunity to become a head coach because he has admitted that he does believe he hasn't gotten a college job because he is married to a white women.
Strong, a 48-year-old black man, shook his head affirmatively when an Orlando Sentinel reporter asked him if his interracial marriage was a factor in getting passed over for jobs, including one at a Southern school a few years ago. Strong, whose wife is white, said he heard that too many times for it to be rumor.
"Everybody always said I didn't get that job because my wife is white," Strong said at media day Monday, as the Gators prepare to face Oklahoma in the FedEx BCS National Championship Game. "If you think about it, a coach is standing up there representing the university. If you're not strong enough to look through that [interracial marriage], then you have an issue."
I just don't know if he feels like he would move out West to join the Big 12. Besides being a great DC battling in the SEC, hes is a force on the recruiting trail. I have been pretty critical of Hawkins of not really focusing on Texas choosing to go more to California for his recruiting and while this also could be a problem with Strong, I feel much better about getting florida prospects over Cali, that is if they are ok with the cold.
Looking at his rivals page he has really only recruited Defensive players but with the success of Florida and his recruiting ability, he is a beast on the recruiting front.
*Also a huge note personally for me is that he recruited Darrell Scott for UF so I would assume that Darrell would be ok with the move. No one player is bigger than the program but it certainly would help.
At 49 years old I truly believe that if hes ok with the weather in Boulder if the program outreaches too him, that Strong is ready to take our program to the next level.
If for some reason it isn't Strong here are some other coaches..

Jameson Davis giving up football
Too many knee injuries for the kid. Now Aric really better be clutch or we will be seeing Zach this yr. Really makes the move to offer Zach huge now. The spilt would be perfect if we could shirt Zach and he would have 3 yrs left after next yr when Aric is gone
ESPN-College Football challenge
This is kinda like fantasy football but since we couldn't get it to work on CBS i created a group on espn.
All you do is pick your lineup for the week, sit back and watch those pts pile up
Name: Ralphie Report

If we want, we can choose to just allow Big 12 players which would make it a lot more interesting but i figured maybe more would join if it was all schools. There is no limit to the entries so anyone interested join away...
Buffs, Rams Sign Deal to Play Rocky Mountain Showdown in Denver
According to multiple sources, Colorado and Colorado St. will continue their series in Denver starting in 2010 until 2019, with 2020 the game being played in Fort Collins.
It looks the games with Minnesota in the future will have to be reworked or delayed to solidify the commitment of six home games a year, according to cubuffs.com:
CU's commitment to host six home games every season at Folsom is solidified for the next 10 years. For that to happen over the length of this new agreement, 20 of the 30 non-conference games the Buffaloes will schedule over the next decade will have to be in Boulder (CU annually plays four home Big 12 Conference games). The challenge is that of those 20 non-league home games, CU must find 10 opponents willing to come to Boulder without the expectation that the Buffaloes will return the game at their respective home stadiums.
With many BCS schools now playing seven or even eight home games, the Buffaloes are now positioned with this Front Range model to match what CU's peers are doing, but also with the attractive benefit that one of those games will take place in one of the NFL's premier facilities.
"The players thoroughly enjoy playing in one of the finest NFL stadiums and the atmosphere is like opening your season in a bowl game," Bohn said.
To allow for the above, some established home-and-home series are being rearranged; for example, one with Minnesota set for 2012 and 2013 will be delayed to early in the 2020s. School officials are also working on "two-for-ones," and have announced such with Fresno State, where the Bulldogs will visit Boulder twice (2011, 2013) with CU traveling once to Fresno (2012).
edited a lot by irish1611, thanks to roxbombers for the initial post.
Josh Smith is joining Slick Rick
Reading through Bruce Feldman's blog, which happens to be how i found this place back in the day, I found a segment from a paper in CA saying that Josh will leave and Red shirt this yr for UCLA and have 2 years of eligibilityleft for the Bruins.
Guess we all this was coming and glad for it to be official and move on but I think we will look back and really miss Josh when we think about that 10 win mark. But for some happy news, looking at the Rival page for CU they rank Markques Simas as the 5th most talented Buff already. I am looking forward to him the most only behind Polk at FS and Scott's bounceback for this yr.
Bring back Herges?
Matt Herges released by the Indians, maybe an option to look into if Corpas isn't 100% ready, but maybe I'm looking into the past too much with him.
Josh Smith Gets 2nd Release to UCLA
promoted to front page...-irish1611
Just saw on Ringo's blog that Smith has also been released to UCLA -
When CU limited his transfer option to just USC, he appealed the decision to a committee made up of three professors. They ruled on the side of Bohn and Hawkins, but Manning tells me a deal was worked out between Smith and Hawkins allowing the release and possible transfer to UCLA.
If Smith eventually ends up with the Bruins, he will be the second Buff in the past two offseasons to leave Boulder for Westwood, Calif. Former offensive lineman Kai Maiava left CU after the 2007 season for UCLA, where he is expected to be a heavy contribuitor this season for former CU coach Rick Neuheisel.
Bruce Feldman also posted on his twitter was we are all hoping
Talked to CU QB Cody Hawkins: Buffs are expecting a big season from WR Markques Simas, who is apparently looking great in off-season work.
Tyler Hansen broken thumb, out until early June
Let's hope that he can come back and be ok and ready to compete for the fall and this doesn't have any impact on the QB race.
Ringo put this the injury update on his twitter, man
Quarterback Tyler Hansen suffered a broken thumb in today's spring game and won't be able to throw until early June.
i just hope this doesn't have any lingering effects and hansen can still put pressure on cody for that starting spot
All Buff Fans Not in Colorado, Great News
EDIT: just got an email from Dave Plati saying the telecast on CUBUFFS.com is FREE to all, not premium.
This is some great news as I do live in Colorado but not sure I will be able to make it up Saturday. Cubuffs.com will be airing the game live online according to the Buffzone blog by Kyle Ringo.
The school will provide audio and video on its website, with color analyst and former Buff quarterback Charles Johnson definitely slated to be involved. Longtime CU play-by-play and color commentary guy Larry Zimmer might take part, but he also has other responsibilities that day with a class he teaches.
Recruiting with a little more of my rant
Alright Hawkins you want to close down practices thats fine. I don't think you should because with the past couple of years with a horrible record you should have nothign to hide. Whether it is to "protect" his kid, or what the reason thats fine, but enough is enough. Excuses are done, this is the year. I understand that most of the other schools in the conference, hell even the country close their practices, thats also fine. But don't say too much information is leaking when I haven't seen one drop of info on this board or others that would lead me to think that way.
I have never been the biggest fan of Hawkins, but he has started to win me over with his recruiting in state over the last few years. But my question is why in the world does he take so long to recruit and get some of the top kids locked up. I know that its going to be a battle to get Kasa, Miller, Major etc and that can take a while but it seems like we don't get any recruits at all until the fall and close to NSD. We should be able to get guys like Parker Orms locked up before his sr yr. He has by far the best program in state(maybe not for long) and should be pulling kids to boulder. But Hawk wants to close his spring game like the big boys well go get recruits like the big boys.
We better see significant improvements in the offense if they have all these "special" plays that the public can't see. All I know is that I better not see what seemed to be 5 shotgun draws a game, or it will be time to turn the program over to someone who knows to run an offense
I want a North title, or get within a game of the North title, or Mr. Hawkins you can go close spring practice back in the WAC because our program needs to easily beat up on the University of JUCO (KSU), ISU not barely scrap by EWSU (or whatever they are), KSU, ISU, and not even be able to get to the Petro Bowl.
Time to put up or shut up Cody and co.
Sorry for my rant, I wasn't a fan of Hawkins to start and like the RR slogan is "Excuses are for losers" so no more excuses of he didn't have anything when he got here, now its his players and lets go win 9-10 games and all will be forgiven
2008 Big 12 Champs: Texas!!
According to Tim Griffin:
The Longhorns have claimed the Big 12 title
Here's the Picture of the Wall
I thought this was insane. I didn't even think someone would let them do this but hey, I guess its there wall. I could see if they put up a Big 12 South champs since they all 3 were tied but a big 12 champs thats a little too far. I was thinking about what Mack would say to a recruit when they go by the trophy case and he only has 2 trophies but 3 years listed. He could let them know that Oklahoma is holding it for him
First Day of Practice
Man was it great to see some Buffs football. Traffic sucked so I didn't get there right at four but I saw plenty. Unfortunately they didn't allow phones or camera's, but here are my thoughts about the day.
I'm not paying attention a whole lot as it had just broken that Cutler wants out of Denver for sure and I'm sure that irish will get a review up before I'm able to post this but here are my thoughts of the day
The Good:
OL->Not sure whether we were lucky or not but the OL was next to us all practice. They looked REALLY good to me doing the agility drills and damn I have never been that close to Miller and Solder at 6'7 and 6'8 respectively. The were quicker than the other OL off the ball on most of the drills that I saw. Also a plus, one practice down, 0 OL out for the year.
Aric Goodman->Ya I'm still a homer for this guy and even though that practice was never a problem, this guy was flat out BOMBING the few kicks he did. All I saw was about 4-5 in between the drills and the dude was probably 30-40 yards out and hitting the bubble. We are talking middle of the uprights and 30 feet above the top of the goal post. I think that Grossnickle(sorry if that is a misspell too lazy to look it up right now) will just add to competition and competition is never a bad thing.
Markques Simas->This was the first time that I have seen him and I was very impressed. He caught all but one ball that I saw and he looks like he has playmaking ability like Josh Smith that you get the ball in his hand and he will make plays. I can't wait to see him more if I am able to get up there and hopefully see more of the offense throwing the ball
All the RB's-> Obviously the day was set up for them to look good with no one even touching them in the drills when they ran towards where everyone was standing but man, I can't wait to see this year and how this shakes out. Rodney Stewart looked sexy with the #5 rocking and Darrell Scott looked tiny with all the "Freshman 15" that he came to camp last year with off. In the drills that I saw I was also very impressed with Brian Lockridge looking almost as fast as Stewart with great cuts. I didn't see much of Demetrius Sumler but he didn't look bad, looks to invite more contact and use less cuts than the other guys, but still very early.
Riar Geer: I think for this offense to go to the next level the most important factor is Geer. The TE needs to be a spot that with the playmakers on the edge our QB whoever that maybe be can check down for the 5-6 yard gains and keep moving the chains. He made one really nice catch even if a OL and a FB was guarding him, lol.
Not willing to say bad since its early:
The QB's: Although I didn't get to see the camera's in action until the very end, I did see a lot of QB drills which was helpful, but doesn't make me feel so hot. Here's how I break it down after what I saw
Cody Hawkins: As much as I hated Hawkins by the end of the year right now I think the job is by far his to lose. His balls were much crisper tighter spirals and he moved much quicker when they were doing the pocket drills. When doing the short passes/screen drills over the goal post I thought he looked the most refined and threw the best balls which he should. I loved to see that they did practice by throwing over the goal post to simulate passes getting deflected, all the QB's I saw hit once or twice, Cody's passes were on the line to the ball boy a lot more though. When they were scrimmaging at the other end Cody has a beautiful scramble left jump and throw and a nice grab in the endzone by one of the TE i believe. (kinda hard to see 100 yards away)
Tyler Hansen: I didn't like Hansen much last year because I had a semi man crush on the pro style 6'4 QB that's behind him. I think the staff used him horribly last year but as a true freshmen maybe he wasn't ready to handle that. In the pocket drills he looked a little rattled trying to move quickly but he really impressed me. He doesn't look a whole lot taller than Hawkins but his balls were right on the money and seemed to have quite a bit more zip than Hawkins balls. He didn't have as tight of spiral as Hawkins did, but we didn't even get to see him scramble which we learned last year is such a big part of the game.
Matt Ballenger: I posted on some story of the board that I was hopping on the Ballenger bandwagon for QB this year. I will respectfully step off before it begins. He looked very raw but I think next year he is our QB depending on what happens to Evans. He is still very small, him being 6'4 doesn't help, but he looks like a stick figure out there. His passes weren't as online as either of the other 2 or as nice of spirals. Tough to tell without the DL standing there but it didn't look like his release point was that much higher than Hawkins with him being 5 or 6 inches taller than him. The few deep balls that I saw him throw looked awesome but didn't look comfortable at all during the short passes. I think he has the most upside out of our QB's right now but he still needs a year of developing in the weight room and just getting more comfortable and refining his delivery. I really hope he can prove me wrong this year and compete for the starting job.
It was a nice practice all together, just great to see the buffs out there. I would love to see more screen passes this year than we saw last and the QB's worked for a section on it. I think that Stewart/Scott/anyone would be deadly on screen passes the way our OL looked and their ability to get out in space.
Alright thats enough for now, lol. Probably won't get another chance with work to get back up there but man, it was great to see some Buff football.
Hopefully they don't enforce the camera rule
Just got on CU buffs to get the spring roster and this was teh note at the bottom
Please enjoy your time here at CU! — When at the practice fields, including the bubble, please turn off cell phones (no
conversations or texting allowed inside the gates); NO pets, cameras (still or video), lawn chairs or umbrellas are allowed. At
the request of the coaching staff, only CU recognized media may take notes, pictures or video and all must wear their official
CU-issued credentials. Thanks and go Buffs!
Guess if they enforce this you won't be having any pics or twitters from me.
Colorado Offers to K Zach Grossnickle
Colorado is using another offer to try to stabilize the kicking position. The kid from East (Denver, CO) already has an offer from Kansas and is scheduled to make a trip to Boulder here in a couple weeks (January 16th). I just hope that Grossnickle doesn't come to CU and become a problem like the kickers we currently have. Boy, I bet Hawkins is wishing that he wouldn't have overreacted by giving Goodman a scholarship after that chip shot FG.
