Giant Fan Video
Check out this video of a (va)Giants fan after his team lost to the Eagles. Pretty classic and kinda weird.
Watch it till the end. I was at the last game at the Vet, when the Eagles lost to the Bucs in the playoffs. It was like attending a funeral. Is it ever ok to cry over sports?
I am writing this so I can get to seventy five words. Stop reading please.
Draft Day in NYC
I am in downtown NYC and trying to figure out my draft day plans. I wanted to see who else will be watching in the city. I was thinking of going to Town Tavern in the West Village, but would be open to go somewhere new. I am really looking forward to Saturday and would love to be around a bunch of Eagles fans. If we get a good group, we can create a draft day pool too. Let's take over a bar or hit up an Eagles bar. I can make reservations at Town Tavern if we can get this thing organized.
Letting Time Expire at the Draft
Came across this story from Si.com. The author thinks the Lions should let time expire on draft day and let a team or two pick in front of them to save money.
Given the financial commitment inherent in making the No. 1 pick and the lack of a clear-cut best player, the Lions should consider letting the clock strike zero and let the Rams make the first selection. Maybe even let the Chiefs slide in there too, before making a pick at three or four.
He says the move could save the team around $4 MM. He also goes into how ridiculous rookie contracts are for the first 10 players drafted and how some of them become the highest paid player at their position without playing a snap at the pro level.
The money paid to top rookies has gotten so out of whack that teams don't even want to have a top five pick anymore, let alone No. 1. The top pick used to be a consolation prize for teams that were coming off a horrible season. Now it seems more like cruel and unusual punishment. The top picks are so costly that they are virtually untradeable, which is not good for a league that prides itself on competitive balance.
There are a couple points worth discussing here:
1. How would you feel if the Eagles let the clock expire to save cash missed out on picking what could be the best player available? It's almost like trading down and getting cash for a player instead of picks or veterans.
2. What would you do to the rookie payment scale? There is obviously a problem when the first pick in the draft is untradeable. I think it's out of hand right now.
Akers
One thing that would be nice to see this preseason is some competition for Akers. He is definitely past his prime and I think bringing in some competition would do some good by either pushing him to become the kicker he was 5 years ago or simply finding a guy with a bigger leg. Who doesn't get nervous when Akers lines up to kick a 41 yard FG at the Meadowlands?
His stats are still decent, but he missed some big kicks for us this year especially during the Giants game in early December. Reid rarely tries 50+ yard kicks with him because his leg is not what it use to be. So maybe around the late 6th round, the FO should see if there's anyone worth bringing in. If anyone has any kickers in mind please share....
Ownership

I know some people on this forum will say trust the FO no matter what happens. I think that's naive. Eagle's owners made about $30 MM two years ago, and I would guess around the same last year. This year, because the they will be so far below the cap, they stand to make around the same again despite the economy. I know its a business, but how many of you feel that we are one player away from being great? I'm not saying we become the Redskins and pretend this is fantasy football, but when the ownership makes this much money, can you blindly believe they doing what's best for the franchise and not their pockets?
On top of that, Philly both the city and fan (through taxes and rediculous seat liscenses) helped fund the Linc, making the team even more profitable. So despite this being a "business," I think we have the right to say something and demand more.
My main point is can we please stop saying the FO has a "plan," that we are all just too shortsighted or stupid to understand? Its not that simple.
Two Questions
1. Who will have the better NFL career in your opinion, Winston Justice or Kevin Kolb? Both were 2nd round picks that have gotten off to ugly starts to their career but have shown flashes.
2. If Sanchez or Stafford slip to our pick, would anyone be tempted? If the eagles had any trust in Kolb, I don't think McNabb would be coming back. Sanchez in particular could fit in to the offense well, and it would be good for him to hold a clipboard for a year or two.
