A UT Athletics Travesty

UT Alum here. I paid out of state tuition to UT for 4 years and I attend 15+ sporting events a year. Bought tickets to tonight's game online and had two friends who are Air Force pilots drive up from San Antonio for the game. Low and behold we walk up to the Irwin Center tonight, tickets in hand, and we're turned away from the stadium because there is "no more room". How the F do you oversell a basketball game? We paid for parking, our tickets, only to be turned away by clueless ticket checkers who had nothing to say but, "I'm sorry" and "There's nothing we can do". There were lines of people at each gate with the same problem. What an embarassment and failure of the Athletics department and all involved. Someone needs to be fired.

VY "quitting" on the Titans

I'm as big a fan of Vince as anyone out there, but reading stories like this sucks. Let's hope it is far from the truth, as it will reflect very poorly on VY and his future success in the NFL if it is even slightly accurate. Do you guys think the NFL is too much for him to handle? After seeing what he can do his Rookie year, I sure hope not.

Kickoff Rule

A play during the game on Saturday ignited a friendly discussion between me and another fan. During a kickoff, if the returner tries to catch the ball at the 2 yard line, it touches him, but the momentum of the football carries it into the end zone, is the player allowed to take the touch back? Or does he have to run it out?

Just a silly question, but it is still bugging me. Any help?

Could he end up as the next Terrell Davis or Orlandis Gary? It is way too early to tell. But it is great to see a UT talent who went undrafted doing so well amongst a group of talented RBs in Denver. As a Colorado native, this could turn into something beautiful.
Dissin' on Durant

With the NBA Lottery less than a week away, BBall coverage is heating up around the web. In his newest Insider post Chad Ford makes the case for Oden, claiming he has the biggest upside in the draft.

Key quote:

Sunday night, after I described Oden's workout to a respected NBA general manager who stands a pretty good chance at getting the No. 1 pick in Tuesday's lottery, the GM had four words for me:

"I told you so."

He continued, "Oden is not just a big guy. He's a big guy with great athleticism and skill. It's what I've been telling you all year. This guy is a lock as the No. 1 pick.

"If Kevin Durant had broken his wrist and come back way early with a cast on his shooting hand, I don't think he would've dominated the Big 12.

"We haven't seen the real Greg Oden yet. What we've seen is 50 percent. That's enough to make him the No. 1 pick.

"If we saw it all, we'd laugh about the Durant comparisons. Don't get me wrong, Durant can play. He may be great. But I'm taking Greg Oden. My guess is every GM in the league will too once they see him up close."

It alludes me how claims like this can achieve such traction amongst the "expert" analysts. The major problems I see with this claim are:

The love for Oden is based off of a workout as opposed to a season's worth of playing

His excuse for the poorer-than-expected play of Oden this season was that his wrist wasn't healed-- claiming that he was playing at 50% of his potential the entire season and that we didn't even get a glimpse of what the guy is capable of. I'm sorry, but could it have made THAT significant of a difference? His wrist sure looked fine during those monstrous dunks when he nearly brought down the backboard. How crucial is a wrist injury to the play of a 7 1" Center as opposed to a pure shooter and ball handler?

Maybe I'm just offended that this GM wrote Durant off without even thinking twice. Depending on the team given the first pick I would not be surprised if either player went first in the draft. But to write off the best freshmen season EVER in college basketball in favor of another guy's play on the practice court just seems stupid.

What do you guys think?

The state of Oklahoma has decided to make the Watermelon their official state vegetable. In related news...the Sooners are not only cheaters, but they are also idiots. I seriously can't wait for football...

http://www.local6.com/spotlight/1234...

Pacman Suspended for the Season

Pacman Jones has been suspended for the entire NFL season due to his idiotic behavior off the field. Aside from Champ Bailey, I would argue that he is the second most dangerous D-Back in the league. This is a serious blow to the Titan's defense, but it is almost impossible to argue against it due to the dude's insidious actions in the past year.

Let's hope Vince can do even more on the offensive end to make up for the loss. We all know he can!
