Why no designed runs for T. Hansen?
A major offensive surprise and disapointment has been the lack of QB draws and sprint out options for Tyler. This was an area of concern in the previous regime and continues with EB & JE. Tyler is a talented runner and should be getting 60+ yards a game on the ground after sack yardage. I don't accept the argument that there is no back-up QB ready...use what limited resources you have to move the ball.
Danny - new secret offensive gameplan
Has anyone heard that Danny has been talking about his secret new offensive gameplan. I ask in all seriousness because I have heard from several with ties to the program that he is planning a new twist to the offense. I can't wait for some new brillance from the semi-retarded one.....can there be any other reason that we haven't seen or heard from him since his last inanities...he certainly hasn't been recruiting
3 Stooges + mentor- Phil, Mike,Danny and Chuck
Not withstanding Danny's most recent inane comments about being 10 plays away from a bowl.....maybe 10 plays a game more like it, the most ridiculous piece of this mess is Phil and Mike's continued reliance on a suspect evaluator like Chuck Nienas. Maybe if Phil didn't play golf with Chuck every weekend he might be able to get an objective view from someone about his coachs' total inability to grasp reality. Phil and Mike are so deep in to Chuck's bs that all they can do is think of a way to pay Chuck another $100 large to recommend frauds. I see 5 wins next year which will be hailed as progress despite having no coherent offense or an ability to improve execution in any facet of the game. Danny will go down as one of the most incompetent coaches in D1 history and Mike hasn't had the guts to cut and run from any portion of his lackluster 5 years. Phil needs a new friend who can break down a football program and point out obvious nonsense.
Why no designed QB runs
Another nail in the coffin for Danny the Dork. For all the offensive futility that exists one might consider using a skilled runner like T. Hansen on some designed runs. But Dan won't allow it or can't think of it because his boy can't execute such a play. Watching the KSU QB run the option while not even being close to as athletic as Hansen shows how effective a running QB can be. Also how could Espinoza ever be the best choice as punt returner? Dillalo is also terrible. What does it take to get replaced if you are not competing with the coaches son? Hawkins and Kiesau are not worthy of respect being liars and unwilling to take note of what is obvious to everyone else.
Hawkins must go. Bohn is a total wuss.
Poor crying Coach Talkins
First off....congratulations to the Buffs. What a great college football day in and around Folsom Field - foot of the Flatirons. I loved the effort from Speedy and the defense, particularly BJ and Cunningham but please why don't we hold off on this broken record from Danny until after the Texas game. Continued nonsense like "but when you're in the arena and you're scrapping, its little things that decide the game." On the plus side I did actually see Danny interact with his team on the sideline during the game.
To some degree he's right as little tiny receivers will have to decide games because the Buffs love to pass when they don't have to or need to... 5.6 yards per pass play is a testament to an ineffective pass game which really can't can't much better in it's current "grouping". Accuracy remains a huge issue as does the unwillingness to scramble even when it is there for positive yardage. I sill hold out for a 5-7 record though.
One game season
Well it all comes down to Friday nite. Can Dan Hawkins prove that he is not a toal fraud when it comes to producing? If the Buffs have McKnight and Espinoza lined up wide on most plays Cody is going to have to create some positive yards with his feet...something he has been unable to do. Being confronted with a Buffs offense that has limited downfield capabilities Toledo will have 8 or 9 men in the box. What are Kiesau and Hawkins going to do? The yards per passing attempt is totally substandard and will only be improved if rushing yardage is greatly improved. One thing, of many, that really bothers me about Hawkins is that with all his talk of being a teacher is that he does zero "teaching" during the game. He is unusually remote during the game and I think that gives the kids almost no support and certainly no confidence.
H & h pathetic
QB draws with lil hawk and 2 typical blocked passes by the same. H & h just another useless showing. Way to be Dan....snatching defeat from the jaws of victory. Nice first three seasons Dan. You have to do a much better job. Absolutely terrible coaching from H & h. No other way to say it than just a awful season with primarily 2 guys to blame. What a disappoinment, the kids have been let down by the HC and the OC.
Buffs 2008 - A Sunny Fall of My Discontent
The end is nigh and only a Buff victory can redeem what has turned out to be an extremely disappointing season. If the Buffs can get over 175 yards on the ground they have a chance. That chance is slim as H & h have shown little inclination or desire to attempt to establish a run game. Since Hugh Charles' fumble against Kansas in 07 H & h have essentially given up on running the ball. The one back formation precludes success with an evolving O line. To some extent I feel like a citizen of Vichy France...defeatism is our only option as the leadership capitulated some weeks ago.
My hopes for Friday would ideally involve a hard running attack powered by T. Hansen on the draw, keeper and option with some tosses and sweeps to Darrell and mates. Throw in a few screens and a sighting or two of a TE drag and you have the makings of a surprise. What is more likely is to see Cody in a collapsing pocket trying to force balls down field to an underwhelming set of receivers. I expect a solid effort by the defense to be undone after a significant time of possession edge to the Huskers. I would like to see a little more gambling from Collins in an attempt to make a few game changing plays on defense.
In 25 years of enjoying the Buffs I don't remember being this demoralized coming into a must win game against our long time rival. Thanks H....I hope the Buffs can pull the shocker but here's to a good spring and 8 wins next year or H should be on his way to Utah State.
Hawkins - Growing Sense of Futility
While I still hold out hope that Danny Boy is the right guy and the Buffs can rebound in 2009 I grow more concerned everyday. Hawkins and Helfrich have created no offensive identity in three years. I have no idea what kind of offense they are attempting to run. The substitution patterns are useless. The personnel packages(groupings) are a joke. The latest announcement that Cody will play most of the game against Nebraska is dumbfounding. Why waste Hansen's redshirt? Cody is a great kid but gives us almost no chance to win in Lincoln. Unfortunately, he was less than mediocre against the Cowboys. What is the point of playing him versus Hansen?
The look on Dan's face throughout the game was very telling. He looked like a 5th grader in detention(I doubt they still have such a thing)confronted by an algebra equation. Why haven't the special teams gotten better? Why won't we run any toss plays, where are the tight ends? For someone who supposedly is a big motivation guy he does very little during games. All his Cliff Notes version philosphical BS needs to be turned inward and he needs to make some tough decisions around his offense. Ending the season 2-7 after 3 wins is all on Dan and indicative of an extremely poor job.
