Last night's defensive effort made me curious to see what Golden State's results are when they hold teams to under 100 points. Behold, the team is actually 10-2 in such situations!
I'm interested in seeing what other Warrior fans have to say about improving defense on this team....so, discuss away folks!
(Btw....mods, I don't think I had enough material here for a fanpost)
Nice retrospective on Baron from Warriorsworld.net
I don't miss him as much anymore, but I'll never forget his time with us.
Making the best of a bad decision
Ok, so we know that the Warriors gave away one of their greatest trading chips in Speedy Claxton's expiring contract in order to keep Anthony Tolliver. But as downright stupid as this decision was, we can't do anything about it anymore. So for better or worse, the team has to make the best of it.
That being said, does anyone else like what they see in Tolliver? Personally, I think he's going to develop into a solid backup power forward/center. Due to the serious injuries the team has suffered he's been given minutes, and he's proved that he has the tools to become a legit player in this league.
Letting the numbers speak for themselves:
'08-'09:
Avg. minutes per game: 10.9
PPG: 2.7
RPG: 2.2
FG%: .292
'09-'10:
Avg. minutes per game: 23.5
PPG: 7.4
RPG: 5.4
FG%: .398
Having a little more than double the playing time than he had last year has resulted in him putting up better than double those numbers for us in 2009-2010. He makes hustle plays that lead to either points or at least extra possessions (there were one or two of those against the Mavs last Wednesday), has the potential to develop a good midrange jumper, and is potentially an asset that this team does not have: a reliable BIG player. He has his problem areas, like the tendency to shoot too many threes (which I do not believe should be a part of his game for now), but putting that aside I like what I see in him. I'm not saying he'll be an all-star, but I believe he could be quite valuable for this team if we keep him past this season. What do you all think?
No Fracture for AR
Thank goodness.
Warriors' Name is Mud to Free Agents
This made me sad because it's true...
Ginobli Out
Good for us on the 13th. I'm just sad our "Significant 7" won't have a shot at getting some revenge against him for that phantom foul which cost us the game.
Background tunes?
Brings back memories, doesn't it? The fatefuly playoff struggle in April.... Anyway, I just thought I'd throw this out- does anyone know the name of the background tune used here? Or was it exclusive to the league and used for their vids?
Randolph gets props from Odom
I like this....it shows some real sportsmanship on the part of the Lakers. And proof that our belief that we'll be dangerous in the coming years isn't just a pipe dream.
Better for Maggette in the long run?
I just want to see him earn his paycheck. I could sit on a bench in a suit just as well as he is right now.
I'm not losing hope
Admittedly, I only started watching the Warriors seriously during the '07 Playoffs. I mean, I liked the Warriors back in '94-'95 when I was 10, but leaving for the Philippines after that and not having regular access to anything except games televised on ESPN made me miss out on most of the last decade of Warrior Ball.
Last season was an awesome ride that ended sadly, but was still enjoyable (I still remember the high I had against that fateful Denver game when it looked like we were in complete control). I do miss Baron, Jrich, Barnes, Pietrus, and now Al since they were the part of the "We Believe" Warriors, but at the same time I still like what we have now. Some trimming of our guards may be in order, but the core (Jack, Monta, Beans, Wright, CJ, Buke, et al) still shows a lot of promise for the future.
I still think the playoffs are possible. A lot of people scoffed at the '06-'07 Warriors, and then they went on a tear and ate up their opposition. While I hope it doesn't have to come to that (another 26-35 hole is not something I want), I do think that this team is talented enough to pick up their game (especially their DEFENSE) and post a winning record this season. Forget what Nellie said in that one interview- he wrote the team off back in '06-'07, too.
And, in the case that we do NOT make the playoffs, well, it will stink for sure but we could consider this year one where the team established some chemistry together.
I really hope the next three games go well...Miami, Houston, and San Antonio are NOT going to be easy...but I'm sure they want to win games a lot more than we want them to.
Someone we should make a run for...
If he opts out of his current contract, I seriously think that we should try to entice Carlos Boozer to become a Dub next summer.
I hated him during the 2007 playoffs because we couldn't stop him. But....I'd love him if he could do things he did against us then FOR us.
In light of our HORRID game tonight, I took a quick peek at our rebounding stats. At one point, they said that we were at 54-34 (we ended up 54-40 on rebounds, but the game was already decided well before then). Those rebounds led directly to more shot attempts (something like 20 more?) by the Wizards and ultimately the 124 point assault we just got out of.
Biedrins is playing superbly this whole season, and same goes for Wright and Turiaf (Turiaf mainly because of his defense, which is something you can't usually associate the Warriors with). But getting an all-star big man like him would serve many purposes:
1. We'd be better defensively (and perhaps a little better offensively too with him getting a good number of offensive rebounds to enable a shot at second chance points).
2. He could teach the youngsters (props to Turiaf again, I'm sure he's doing a little of that right now).
3. He'd help Beans out a lot by taking some of the defensive pressure off (kinda falls into reason #1).
Of course, he may not be the best fit for Nellie's run and gun system....but I think it would give the team more flexibility. Use run and gun when it'll work, but then have the big guys able to come out if it's gonna be more of a slow-paced defensive game.
I'm not a basketball analyst by any means, but I'd like to know what you all think. If he was immediately available and I was in charge of the Dubs, I would do whatever we could (like getting rid of some of our expendable 2's and 3's) to make space for him.
Off the topic of the dubs...
Did anyone else see the Atlanta/Boston game earlier tonight? My God, almost 60% from 3-point land!
I predicted a sweep of our season series against Atlanta this year, but after seeing tonight's performance I think I might have to change that. They can't shoot that well from that far forever, true, but when they weren't taking shots they displayed some pretty great defense. Not enough to win the game tonight, but enough to let people know that they are gonna make any team that plays against them really work for that win.
Never thought I'd say this....but I'm a little worried about us playing Atlanta now. Oh well. We'll see what happens when that time comes. But for now, we've gotta upset Detroit tomorrow. Hopefully Maggette will be back!
The City
Hi all, I'm new to this forum. Does anyone know where to buy the throwback jerseys with our "The City" logo? Those are awesome, and I want to get one for opening night (Ellis or Jackson preferably). They don't seem to be in the official Warriors or league stores, so I figured somebody here would know.
Can't wait to see them tomorrow night and in 2 weeks against New Orleans! Woo...less than two weeks til the season begins!
