Nocioni = Big Nuts

Once in awhile, speaking Italian comes in handy. Here's my contribution to the nickname brigade, through a literal Italian reading of Nocioni's name.

In Italian noce = nut (or walnut). The suffix -one makes the noun that it's attached to "big." Like a bacio is a kiss, and a bacione is a big kiss. So a nocione is thus a "big nut." And to pluralize, Italian does not append -s to the end of the noun. If the noun ends in an -e, then that -e becomes an -i to indicate the plural. Thus you have one nocione and two nocioni. There we have it, nocioni means "big nuts."

Andres "Big Nuts" Nocioni. Now he just has to drain a couple game winners to justify the nickname.

Could you please add a favicon to the website? Favicons are the icons that show up to the left of the address bar in your web browser. This site does not have one, and in my bookmarks toolbar STR shows up as a blank page. Notice:

The addition is simple, see this tutorial: http://www.clickfire.com/favicon-tutorial/

Muchas gracias. Hope it's not a bother that this isn't directly sports related, so to speak.

It wasn't Romo, Reeves, Crayton or Roy, it was the O-Line

The story of this game is rather simple. In the second half our defense played excellent football, limiting the other team to 7 points. That normally is enough for the Cowboys to win. And yes, Crayton had a killer drop, which makes him a target for criticism following his comments, but Fasano too had a killer drop and his was near the end zone.

No, the story here is the failure of the offensive line to do their job in the second half. Romo played about as well as he could given the circumstances. Constantly he was under pressure, being hit, and had little time to allow plays to develop. In addition, the line created little running room for Barber. In addition x2, there were the false start penalties and Bigg's personal foul. The reason the offense sputtered in the second half was the lack of consistent play by the big men up front. The reason we made the playoffs, won 13 games, etc. was that we had the best pass blocking line this side of New England. That fell apart against the Giants, and so too did our offense, and ultimately the game.

I can't stand John Clayton

Sorry, but I gotta vent about this douchebag.

What the hell did TO do to this guy? Clayton cannot write a single "1st and 10" column without pointing some sort of metaphorical finger at TO. If Clayton's writing about the Cowboys, he's writing about TO too, and can't seem to help from demonizing the guy time and time again. It's as if TO dissed Clayton's wife or something (although I can't imagine that pencilneck with a woman).

This week the choice quote is "Owens sabotaged Bledsoe with dropped passes and snide comments, leading to the rise of Tony Romo as a quarterback." I'm sorry, but did TO also force Bledsoe to make horrific decisions in the red zone? Did TO force Bledsoe to make slow decisions and take unnecessary sacks?

Clayton's hard-on for TO manages to ruin every Cowboys story he writes. I used to enjoy reading his material but nowdays he's ESPN's version of Bill O'Reilly - pretending to be a serious, balanced sports journalist, but instead operating on his own personal agenda. Of all the media hype TO generates, Clayton does a big part himself in making sure the hype stays high and in our faces.
