Battle Red Blog Texans Sign Neil Rackers

Adam Schefter is reporting. Texans gave Neil Rackers a two-year, $4.1 million deal that includes $350,000 guaranteed. But he'll have to win job to earn his money.Texans keeping Kris Brown and will have an open competition this summer. Brown vs. Neil Rackers Best kicker gets job.

Sounds like a lot of money to come in and compete for a job but it finally gives me a bit of hope that Shankapotomus is finally getting the boot.

Link to the story on ESPN. Guess it really isn't a lot of money if he gets cut but lets hope its the other way around.

Thanks, saentia.  Pretty huge signing, all things considered. - bfd

Battle Red Blog Haynesworth

"Luke from South Bend, IN writes: Sorry I missed the chat, but it looked like it was fun. My question actually involves two AFC South teams. I know the Colts typically don't go out and get free agents, but what would you think about them throwing some money at Haynesworth next year? A team with few weaknesses, and they'll have some money freed up if Marvin is gone.

Paul Kuharsky: "Some" money won't cut it. I figure Haynesworth's 2009 cap number will likely be around $6 million. The Colts stand at $2.9 over the cap right now. So we're talking about clearing $9 million just for him, before dealing with any other personnel or contracts. That's not going to happen. They generally aren't a player in free agency, and they really don't get involved with huge money guys.

I could see the Texans chasing Haynesworth if he makes ot to free agency."

I was reading over Kuharsky's latest blogs and noticed this little gem, now I normally take everything he says with a grain of salt and will with this but it got me thinking. Now I could never see the Texans making a run at Haynesworth with the team being very big on character but we do have the tumor that is T. Johnson and I'm not going to lie I'm scared.  If this dirty, cheap shot taking, fat bastard inks with the team that got me into loving football I may have to abandon my beloved team in favor of another team without the face stomping antics.

Like I said I don't see it happening ever but I'm drawing the line in the sand now it seems.  Here's to hoping we get better without having people that (in my opinion) shouldn't even be in the league anymore.
