Which would you rather have the Cubs build,

Would you rather see the Cubs try to build a team that will contend for the next decade but however will not win a world series, I know the Braves did win one. Or would you just like to see the Cubs be like the Marlins and play for one season and win the world series. So really what's more important a world series or a competitive team?

Felix Pie

I was wondering what you guys think of Felix Pie...

Personally I think if this guy plays the year out at Iowa and comes up under a manager other than Dusty Baker he has the chance to become a great player. I know from reading up on Pie he has a few areas of concern including his plate disapline, baserunning skills, and hitting the cutoff man, however anyone who watches baseball knows there is no such thing as a perfect player. I think that if Hendry trades Felix Pie he will set this franchise back years because at this point he is the one guy that could bring back confidence in the Cubs farm system for other organizations. I will also be the first to tell you this, if the Cubs keep Felix Pie he will play on a championship team with the Cubs. I know some of you don't feel the same way about him but lets face it this team needs a position player to build around and D-Lee is great but he is 30 years old and Ramirez hasn't shown he can be the guy. I just hope that Cubs fans give this guy a year or two and let him become the star that this team needs.

This is my thoughts on what I think the Cubs should do to fix things before next year.....

Here's who should go: Juan Pierre, Todd Walker, Glendon Rusch, Neifi Perez, as well as the Dusty Baker regime and some of the other bench players, fringe players.

The Replacements: Felix Pie, Eric Patterson, an assortment of players to fill the bench( I unfortually don't have the time or the exact knowledge of who these guys should be.) Freddie Gonzalez should then be the replacement at manager.( You got to love anyone who has coached under Bobby Cox, who in my opinion is the greatest manager in the modern era.)

I know this will not hold over well with many of you but I think we need to see the best of Hendry's young talent before we can fire him. This team needs to rebuild, there are just not enough free agents to fill every need of this club and whether you like it or not the Tribune is not going to spend money like the Red Sox, Mets, or Yankees. Also I feel that dispite the injuries to Wood and Prior they are still better than anything that will be available on the free agent market.

April will be the most important month of the year for the Cubs....

I know that Wood, Prior, and Miller will probably all be out at least until the end of April or early May, with that said the rotation has two solid spots in Zambrano and Maddux and three weak spots, Rusch, Williams, and whoever takes the fifth spot. Since the Cubs won't need a fifth starter until the middle of April that will certainly help the team. As a Cubs fan this situation looks like if the Cubs can hang around the division within a few games of the top for april the Cubs may be in the drivers seat then when they are able to add Wood and Prior and even Miller a little latter on. To me the Cubs season may the month of April.

Augie Doggie has returned....

I heard that my favorite all-time Cubs Augie Ojeda will be invited to camp this spring. I know he is a very below average hitter with no power and has an above average glove and probably won't make the team . What other players would you guys like to see the Cubs invite to camp based soley on a personel affection for the player. And does anyone else think that Marquis Grissom is worthless. I think this may be one of only a few guys worse than Corey Patterson.

Jim don't make this Tejada for Prior trade yet...

I think if you all thought about this proposed trade of Tejada for Prior, amongest others, you would see this is not good from the Cubs prosective. I know Tejada is a great hitter and perhaps the best shortstop in baseball, but he is really not the type of hitter the Cubs need right now. We have two really good All-Star type hitters from the right side in D-Lee and A-Ram. The Cubs really need a number two in the order hitter who will be on-base for Lee, Ramirez, and Jones, otherwise it will be like in 2004 when we hit homeruns but they more mostyly solos. I know Prior has been hurt as well but we don't want another Greg Maddux, and yes I know that Greg was a free agent but that doesn't matter. Bedard is good but he's not great and not dominating like Prior can be. I wouldn't trade Patterson or Hill but unless Jim can has another move to aquire a dominating type starter to replace Prior this could end up being another Lou Brock trade and trust me none of us wants that.

Who Hits 2nd?

The Cubs do not have a true number 2 hitter!

With the moves the Cubs have made this offseason they have left one gaping hole, the 2 spot in the batting order. They do have a few options but nothing spectacular. Assuming that Pierre hits 1st and Lee and Ramirez 3rd and 4th, that leaves Barret, Jones, Murton, Walker, and either Perez or Cedeno. I would count out Walker and Jones because they bat left handed and Dusty won't bat left handed hitters back to back. I fear if Barret hits 2nd he would hit into a ton of double plays leaving no body on for D-Lee. So if I were Dusty I would have it narrowed down to Murton and the winner at the shortstop position. Personally I feel Perez is the best of the these three players and filling what a 2 hitter should do, bunt, run a little, hit to the right side, and be a patient hitter, but hey what do you gugs think?

To aquire a bat that can perform better than Burnitz what can the Cubs afford to give up?

I have heard reports that in order for the Cubs to aquire Bobby Abreu from the Phillies the Cubs would have to part ways with either Prior or Zambrano, which in my opinion is way to much, but if you could guarentee me that Wood will be healthy then I could handle dealing Prior but no way would I ever trade Big-Z.
