3 Draft Scenarios
First, a warning: This is a mock draft discussion, if you do not want to discuss mock drafting, please move on and save the hate and vitriol for a "Fire Haley, Fire Pioli, Pitchfork and torches" post elsewhere. Let's keep this positive and look toward the future and see if we can predict the road to success! (In other words, Haters please leave now)
Now, with that out of the way I was looking at some of the updated draft prospect rankings and I got to thinking of the holes on the team and how they may be filled in the first 3 rounds. The following scenarios are just some different directions the team could go and I am just curious what my fellow APers had to say about them.
Talk me down!
After seeing the monstrosity that took place yesterday in Oakland, I am, for the first time this season, having serious doubts about the head coach of this football team. I really want Haley to succeed but this guy seems to be in way over his head. Watching him cuss out his players, assistant coaches and the officials week after week is getting old. The play-calling seems to be a mixed bag at best and improvement just doesn't seem to be happening. Somebody, talk me off the ledge!!
Salary capless NFL
This is an interesting article that clarifies how the NFL would operate with no salary cap.
2010 Free Agency
There has some talk about the 2010 draft and what areas should be addressed in the early rounds. The consensus seems to be middle defense, whether a stud safety or linebacker, or O-line. I thought it would be interesting to take a look at the free agency class and see what needs may be filled through that avenue.

What is the deal with these polls?
7 one loss teams ahead of KU. AP has Florida Sate jump KU from being unranked. Oklahome State loses to Houston and are still ahead of KU. VA Tech moves up after squeaking by Nebraska. AP poll leapfrogs Houston over KU after their off week! Ole Miss is number 4 with weak ass schedule wins against Memphis and Southeastern Louisiana. Give me a F'ing break. When will the Jayhawks and the Big 12 North get a little love?
3 Things I liked about last night
1. Matt Cassel's wheels. Arrowhead nation fell in love with Tyler Thigpen's ability to make things happen once he was on the move. From what I have seen, we now have a QG with a better skill set than Thiggy but is still mobile. I think the bootleg has to be one of my favorite plays and it looks like this team will be able to run it effectively.
2. Cassel to Bowe. I think last night D. Bowe put to rest any doubts about weather he is wiling to do what it takes to help this team on the field. I believe he had zero drops.
3. Solid tackling. Last year this team NEVER wrapped up the ball carrier. Last night there were many plays with the first stringers where good, textbook tackling was on display. Yes they played out of position several times and the secondary got torched by Jackson, but tackling has vastly improved from last year.
Your thoughts?
Hate to burst your bubble
But this is a wasted year for the vikes. I have looked at all of the Super Bowl champion QBs and there have been only four Super Bowls won by QBs who spent less than half of their careers on the team they led to SB victory. Not good odds. You have just signed a QB who WAS magnificent against the entire league for a long time but is now completely average... and very old. The most unfortunate part of this is we will all have to endure another off-season Favre soap opera next year.
Some Favre numbers from 2008:
21st QB rating (81.0)
11th passing yards
22nd avg yds/pass
9th in TDs
In fact Favre led the league in ONE category: drumroll... INTs (22).

ESPN
Just reported that KC has signed Toomer to a 1 year deal. Not sure how much he will get but I like the move... Vets to teach these youngsters how to win. How many super bowl vets do we now have on this team? I love the moves!
75 75 75 75 75 75 75 75 75 75 75 75 75 75 75 75 75 75 75 75 75 75 75 75 75 75 75 75 75 word rule sucks!
Videoboards installed
Arrowhead is gonna be awesome when the renovations are done. Check out the monthly updates and newsletters for detailed progress reports. The horizon level (seats under the new press box) is nearly complete. The videoboards are installed and being tested. (How cool are dual Hi-Def videoboards and Hi-Def Ribbonboard gonna be!?) Lights are going up atop the press box, Steel facade is installed. Arrowhead is well on its way to defending its claim as the greatest stadium in the NFL, not just in appearance but with product on the field! The folks at the Truman sports somplex have done a great job giving us a great new look and the citizens of Jackson County have done great in making it possible!!
New Uniforms
I love the Chiefs uniforms but it drives me nuts that there is no gold on the helmet. I would love to see the "KC" inside the arrowhead outlined with gold, and maybe modernize the jersey/ pants with some new piping or stripes. But you gotta keep the red road trousers! Another thing I would like to see is some updating to Arrowhead, I would love to see the green padding replaced with red and paint the concrete red. I also think it would look great if the numbersof those players with retired jerseys on the ring of honor were gold plated .
Add another LB?
"The Seattle Seahawks have rescinded their franchise tag on outside linebacker Leroy Hill, making him a free agent." - Associated Press
He had a great rookie season, not a sack artist but at 26 years old he could help with depth in a (now) old LB corps. Not sure how he works into a 3-4 but he is probably the best available LB out there right now. Obviously the Chiefs are looking to shore up the defense and without drafting a single LB Hill may be a viable option.
Does this make sense?
Waters, LJ and ATL 2010 Rd 2 pick for Boldin and 2009 Rd 2.
KC gets an 09 Rd 2 pick (yes, a very late Rd 2 but it is in Rd 2) and brings in a great WR. AZ shores up it's running game with a pro-bowl guard and a running back with something to prove. KC and AZ both lose their malcontents, yes they each gain a malcontent, but a change of scenery may be the answer for both. Thoughts?
What about Oher?
Why has Michael Oher (LT-Ole Miss) dropped out of the top 10 in most mocks? I read the following post and he seems like a can't miss, long, lean and strong. Obviously if the Chiefs manage to trade down (highly doubtful) then Oher may be an option, but what about the 3? Monroe concerns me with durability, Oher has no injury issues and has spent a long time blocking in the SEC. Thoughts?
