McCovey Chronicles Fantasy Leagues

I've made 2 fantasy leagues on ESPN both are 5x5 standard categories, one is AL-only and one is NL-only.  This is for people who join this league looking to win.  Owners will stay active which means switching their lineups when needed, making trades and posting on the message board.  I want people who are willing to make this their primary league.  Email at bballgiant@comcast.net or respond if you are serious about this league.  I will do my best as a commish (team rankings, updating LM notes, etc) so I expect you to do your best as an owner.

McCovey Chronicles Favorite Giant

who is your favorite, most-likeable Giant on the current roster?  I have a feeling there will be an overwhelming level of Lincecum-love so post your top 3.  this doesn't necessarily have to be the best player just the one you like the best.

  1. Tim Lincecum
  2. Ray Durham
  3. Rich Aurilia

McCovey Chronicles BP names Lincecum #1 RHP prospect

on BP today there is an article on top RHP prospects.  behind Dice-K (who doesn't count) Lincecum is first.  ahead of Hughes and Bailey.  Lincecum-mania continues to grow.

McCovey Chronicles Schmidt

tonight he got lit up by the Pads for 6 runs in 2 innings while never hitting 90 on the MLB gun.  his ERA is now 7.36, not Zito territory yet but I think Zito was a much better investment than Schmitty.

McCovey Chronicles Fantasy Info

what do yall use to prepare for your drafts?  Prospectus, Shandler, ESPN, or just make your own lists?  I usually go off Sporting News list and make some changes to my liking but was thinking about going with Shandler or BP this year for my new dynasty league?  any recomendations on which one to get?

McCovey Chronicles Top 10 Pitching Prospects

at http://projectprospect.com

Lincecum in at #8.  Here's what they say: 8. Tim Lincecum, SF: Constantly under criticism for his 5-foot-10, 155-pound build and abnormal windup, Lincecum just keeps going out and proving himself too dominant to ignore (15.60 K/9 and 0.90 WHIP between Low-A Salem-Keizer and High-A San Jose). Pedro Martinez is only 5-foot-11, 170-pounds, so guys this size can be frontline major league starters.

Lincecum will attempt to continue to shred through the minors with a likely start at Double-A Connecticut followed by a quick promotion to Triple-A Fresno. He'll be ready to help the Giants out as a starter whenever they call upon him.

McCovey Chronicles This is why we suck

our manager has gone absolutely insane.  From SFgiants.com talking about a new closer.

"Alou admitted that picking one player will be difficult.

"There's not really another guy down there [in the bullpen]," Alou said. "We've got to live with that reality. The other guy who was our other closer was Tim Worrell, and he's on the DL."

What??? Tim Worrell is the other option and since he's not available we just live with the reality of Suckmando??  Brad Hennessey please!! or Kevin Correia or even Vinnie Chulk.

McCovey Chronicles mlb.tv mosaic

anyone else really enjoying this new feature on mlb.tv?  I just got it tonight and love it, especially the boxscore on the side and of course for the 3 games at once.  Do wish the screens were bigger on the original screen.

McCovey Chronicles Keys to making the playoffs

List 5 players or changes you think we need to have to make the playoffs.  In order of importance.

  1. Schmidt pitch like he has been lately.
  2. Alou staying healthy and avoiding nagging injuries.
  3. Giving Accardo, Wilson, and Sanchez the late inning relief jobs.  They are better than anyone else we have and our only hope of having a decent bullpen.
  4. Vizquel and Durham staying healthy because a heavy dose of VizII or Fransden would kill playoff hopes.
  5. Getting solid pitching from the bottom of the rotation.  2 of Hennessey, Morris, Correia, and Wright need to step up and pitch solidly because I think Lowry and Cain will be fine at 2 and 3.  In order of who I'd want in the rotation right now, I'd go Correia, Wright, Morris, Hennessey.

McCovey Chronicles Schmidt

7 IP
6 H
5 ER
5 BB
10 K

are you pleased or not?  I was pleased with his stuff for the most part, fastball hitting 91-95 mostly around 92.  I think it might be early season rust on his command.  I also think that this outing is a positive step, with the 10 Ks.  Take away 1 bad pitch to Andruw Jones and this looks a lot better.  Anyway, your thoughts.
