MVP candidate Carlos Gonzalez and San Francisco first baseman Aubrey Huff are the only hitters eligible for the batting title with positive runs-above-average values against fastballs, curveballs, sliders, changeups, cutters, splitters and knuckleballs.
Jeff Passan's 25 Things You Didn’t Know About Baseball column. The usual, pompous tenor of his writing aside, lots of great info in the article.
OT: Richmond's New Stadium Attempt Stirs My Civic Wonts
On Topic: A lot went right for the Flying Squirrels in Richmond this inaugeral AA season, see the link for a nice short status summary. City leadership is talking in positives about public funding, and the potential urban-renewal the surrounding area. On the surface, that's swell, but for an urban area with deep (and underfunded) social issues, it sure does bring in to question the rights and wrongs in sports politics.
& Now It's Off-Topic: Personally, I very very rarely vote to fund much public-private infrastructural funding here in the City. But, I am a staunch believer the 49ers should not become more "peninsulated". I would love nothing more than that proto-plan to get the W's an arena in Mission Bay (I believe the Giants have begun investigating the possibility of setting this up) and let the 49ers have what land and freeway access they want in Hunter's Point.
Hunter's Point is not 3rd & King, and I don't think the same financing-development could work there. The Navy is or should be on the hook for a huge amount of clean-up and site preparation. It looks like Lennar Corp's dropping a lot of condos down there and should stand to gain huge from a nearby football stadium. I don't believe taxpayers should pay for the stadium, that's for sure.
What do you think? What have you read? I'd love for this 'shot to pass around some links...
