Building The Dam Friday conversation

It's Friday afternoon (TGIF!) and things are slow.  Sure is quiet around here... *crickets*...

So, in the interest of (hopefully) generating a little conversation (to divert from boredom)...

What do you think about tomorrow's game?  Are the Beavers really going to win by 3+ touchdowns?  Does it depend on which team shows up?  Do you think we stink so bad that Wazzu keeps it close?  Or would that be because Wazzu has been steadily improving, and we're now close to being equal?

Ready, set, discuss!  :)

Maybe it's conspiracy theory, maybe not. Just one of those head-scratchers that comes up periodically.

Building The Dam NCAA Review Board is SLOOOOOOOOW...

Heard Coach Rob on The Joe Beaver Show yesterday.  He says Roberto Nelson is STILL not clear to play.  It is uncertain as to whether he'll be available at the start of the season, or if he has to wait until the first term of school is over.

Why the heck is it taking the NCAA review board so long to get this stuff figured out?  The poor kid has been here for what, about a year and a half already?  What a pain!

Anyhow... it sounds like basketball is going to be fun to watch this year!

Not really sports related, other than the involvement of the Ducks jersey and cop's comment, but kinda funny. Glad no one was hurt. Just a weird encounter! Found on sidebar to the Beavers blog on OLive.

I know everyone is in football mode at the moment, but Brooks Hatch at the GT had a list of returning baseball players, including a bunch that I thought had signed to go pro! I'm excited to see what Rodriguez and Wetzler can do when they get here!

Jake only picked one photo out of the set, but I think there are at least 3 or 4 that are good shots! This is a link to the rest. Some are cool if you activate the slideshow feature, so that you can see the action sequence. :)

Building The Dam The Draft is today?

Apparently, the Major League Baseball draft is going on today.  I didn't know anything about it.  Is anyone compiling selections or keeping track of it for BtD?

So far, according to the OLive site, a bunch of guys from our favorite team have been selected in the first several rounds.  If all of them leave for the pros, our pitching cupboard will suddenly look pretty bare!  That's scary!  Here's what they have listed so far:

_Player - Team - Round - Overall_

Waldron - Pittsburgh - 5 - 147
Peavey - NY Mets - 6 - 182
Sitton - Colorado - 7 - 230
Osich - LAAA - 7 - 234
Robles - Cincinatti - 8 - 277
K-Rhod - Chicago Cubs - 8 - 280
Romero - Seattle - 12 - 372

Here's to hoping most of these guys stick around!  Although, I can't fault them for leaving, either.  I'm just hoping...

Building The Dam Baseball Open Thread?

Do we not do open threads anymore?  Is that because everyone is really busy (I totally understand that one...) or is there lack of interest?  I hope the regulars on this site haven't given up on baseball for this season.

Anyhow, I'm watching via Beaver Nation Online right now.  Beavers are up 7-4 on the Fuskies in the bottom of the 6th.

Peavy didn't have the best day, but did an okay job.  At least the Beavers have had some offense today.  That's good to see!  Guys started out swinging at the first pitch.  There have been two homers by the Beavs so far.  Santos or Romero and Norris, I think.  I was listening to the radio while doing dishes for the first several innings.

Don't take this as wanting credit for KOing Best...

It would just be nice if our school name appeared correctly in articles. Oregon ain't the only school in the STATE!

This was linked on Cliff K.'s blog. My first thought was, "Uh oh!" Check it out, though. You'll be surprised. :)

Building The Dam Now batting for the Beavers...

I'm grateful to have a job where I can get away with putting on headphones and tuning in to the Joe Beaver Show podcast (if they ever actually post them) or to early broadcasts of sports events.

Today, the Beavers are playing baseball in Tempe, vs. the Huskies of Northern Illinois University.  Ron Callan (who does an okay job, but makes you realize how good Mike Parker really is) says that the weather is sunny and in the low 80s.  Funny that the Beavs went from snow and ice last weekend to sunny and warm.

The change in the weather doesn't seem to be adversely affecting their play.  As I type this, the third inning has just finished, and the Beavers are leading 12-2.  Wow.  GO BEAVS!!!

Building The Dam Sangdorange's Thoughts from Gill: OSU/ Stanford

File this under the "better late than never" category.  It's gonna seem like old news, because it is, but I said I would write something up, so here it is.  Live, from (thankfully) non-bullet riddled North Corvallis, it's...

(Bonus points assigned to any who caught the trail-off reference.)  Well, I was able to make it to the basketball game against Stanford on Thursday night.  I had called the ticket office at lunchtime, but the guy told me there was no need to pay a $10.00 Will Call fee, since they weren't expecting anywhere near a sellout.  We need to change that!  I'm sure it's coming, though, given the team's renaissance this year.  Anyhow, we just walked up and bought tickets at game time.  There wasn't even a line.  Convenient, but somewhat disheartening at the same time - I wish more had been there to make Gill rock, and to witness the team's total domination of the Cardinal.  I must admit, though, that I hadn't planned on attending when I thought the only seats available were $25.00 chairbacks.  I thought I'd just stay home and watch on TV.  Then I found out that there was plenty of bench seating available at $15.00 a pop, and there would be no TV coverage!  So, to the game we went.

Normally,  buying bench seating will land you with a good group of fans who want to be at the game because they're into it and the team, despite having to sit up high.  You can stand and yell all you want, and those around you will most often join in, everybody feeding off each other's energy.  Unfortunately, on this particular night, our bench tickets put us right behind a group of about 20 middle school aged kids.  It must have been the Spanish club, or a group of exchange students and a couple host kids.  Whoever they were, they didn't care one iota for basketball, and were concerned mostly with taking photos of each other eating a hotdog or drinking a soda, or with a continual need to get up and walk down to talk to their friends at the end of the row for a few seconds, then walk back, causing a constant obstruction of view and endless frustration for the fans behind them.
