I linked this to Arrowhead Addict since they have a good summary of the story. Nick is talking about it right now. Apparently, Chief's players under 4 years of experience have to stay at the Drury Inn after training camp breaks. I can't figure out how long the youngsters have to stay at the hotel.

Cory Greenwood's Progress?

One of my favorite aspects of training camp are the battles for a roster spot. To you all you guys and gals out there watching training camp, how is Cory Greenwood progressing?

Arrowhead Pride Matt Cassel's Second Half Decline

From the FanPosts. Nice conversation topic and nice post schraggy. -Chris

During what is the probably the greatest lull in KC Chiefs football news, I was prepared to write a FanPost to argue that the Chiefs shouldn't draft a offensive lineman with Mel Kiper's 6th overall pick.  However, the more I started to look into things, I became more preoccupied with the question:

Why didn't Matt Cassel get better?

Arrowhead Pride What Do You Do When It Is One Of Your Own?

Barry Bonds is generally despised in every city with the exception of San Francisco.  Mark McGuire was recently welcomed back into St. Louis.  As far as I can tell, Shawne Merriman is still liked in San Diego and Buffalo is still behind Marshawn Lynch.  So are Chief's fans still adamant supporters of Dwayne Bowe?

SW Missouri/SE Kansas

I just moved to SW Missouri and I was looking for fans to watch some Chiefs football with. I would be willing to set up Chief watch party or something at a local sports bar if there isn't one up and running already.

Undisclosed Draft Pick

When do teams have to disclose the undisclosed draft pick? I've been googling and I can't figure it out. I figured I would put it in the hands of those who are either more knowledgeable or better at internet searches.

Thanks to NJ Chiefs Fan

For the last few weeks he has taken the time to put together his Chiefs news from the overnight. It is the first post I read every morning and I know it takes some time to put that all together--so thanks. I also noticed that some other SB Nation Blogs have news compilation posts with witty name and a nice graphic. The name Arrow Heds came to mind. Hed is journalism jargon for headline--it seems to fit all too perfect. Anyway, thanks for taking the time to gather the news and I wanted to throw my suggestion out there. Let's get a name together for NJ Chiefs Fans daily morning posts. Let us know your suggestions in the comments. -Chris

Arrowhead Pride Thursday Night Football Open Thread

From the FanPosts. Thanks schraggyj. -Chris

I've been around AP for a while now and there isn't really a tradition of creating an open thread for other team games, but I figured its preseason still so what the hell.  Now I'll try and tie this into some Chiefs related goodness.

I have to say that I will take our QB and WR situation over the Bucs.  I am not sure I would say that about very many teams--especially regarding wide receivers.  Leftwich reminds me of why I am tired of hearing about QB's with great arms.  It is way overrated.  Usually the really great QB's have great arms (Brady/Manning/Marino) but there are so many strong arm QB's that seem to never pan out.  There seems to be a general consensus among the AP community that accuracy is maybe the most important QB asset.

I do have a question for the AP community.  Do we root for poor Buc QB play?  The worse the Buc QB's look may equal a higher trade value for Thigpen.

Do the Bear's overspend on their rookies?

I was wondering if teams, such as the Bears, that are famous for signing rookies early end up overspending? We are entering into the time period where the first rounders start negotiating and begin dominating the football press. I honestly don't have time to do any of the research since I take the bar exam in 10 days. I was hoping some of the excellent writers on this site could take this and run with it. Just an idea.

Arrowhead Pride Why Randy Moss Doesn't Affect Matt Cassel's Payday

Randy_moss_wide917_medium

From the FanPosts. I dropped in the picture. -Chris

This is one of what I am sure will be countless fan posts on the Cassel contract.  I figured I’d throw it out there anyway because it’s a blog and that is the point right.  So I’ll keep this relatively short.  I am going to address what I consider to be the main criticism (mainly coming from the media) that I keep hearing regarding the Cassel signing and then move onto a few real quick reasons (most of which have been already said) that point to this as a smart signing.

Hunters need guns. Law enforcement needs guns. Why would a 36-year old former NFL quarterback, a husband and father of four need a gun that wasn’t for hunting? Why would a 20-year old waitress at Dave & Buster’s need a gun? Both McNair and his girl friend were owners of hand guns. One of them was used to take both lives, apparently her’s.

Gretz's write up today is more appropriate when applied to Burress. The fact that McNair owned a gun seems irrelevant.

To: Georgia Tech Administration and Athletic Department

We, the undersigned, are petitioning you concerning the current state of the Georgia Tech football program, and specifically its Head Coach, Chan Gailey. Over the past four seasons we have seen the football team squander its potential and stagnate, locked in perpetual 7-5 seasons finished in lackluster bowls. We are therefore petitioning you for the removal of Chan Gailey as the Head Coach of the football team.

Fire Chan Gailey Petition

Bored on Sunday. Gailey was 44-32 in 6 years at academic Georgia Tech and went to six bowl games.

Cassel's Contract

Is there any word on Cassel's contract? The last I remember is that the guy who broke the story seemed to think that there would be an announcement in June. Do you guys think that there is a deal in place and are the Chiefs just waiting to announce it?

The Broncos, meanwhile, signed free-agent wide receiver Brandon Lloyd on Monday.

Lloyd is a seventh-year pro with 15 career touchdown catches who played for Chicago last season. He's also played for Washington and San Francisco.

I was just wondering if anybody has heard anything? If I recall he is under contract with the NFLN until the middle of August (probably when the season starts?) and is thinking about joining ESPN? Has anybody heard anything? I was just curious.

One of the selected veterans taking part in the four days of OTAs with the Vikings this week is Kenechi Udeze, who missed all of last season after undergoing a bone-marrow transplant due to an acute form of leukemia.

Reportedly Vrabel played most of last season with a bum shoulder, not that the information has ever been confirmed by the Patriots. Quite possibly, Vrabel has stayed away rehabbing the shoulder and might not be able to take part in the strength program, or even get on the field to work with the defense. Like most NFL teams these days, the Chiefs are closed-mouth on the injury situation of their players.

Chiefs News Chiefs Update | Chiefs Football at BobGretz.com

Might be the real answer to his absence. Vrabel knows the Patriot way--the silent way. Side note? Think Cassel will be listed as probable every week like Brady was for years?

Two years later, Sachs is the driving force behind proposed legislation that would require Oregon universities to seek diverse applicants for coaching positions.

Sachs’ proposal, inspired by the NFL’s Rooney Rule, comes at a time when some are calling on the NCAA to adopt a similar policy, especially when it comes to college football. Nine of the 120 head football coaches in FBS programs are minorities.

Legislation would bring Rooney Rule to Oregon - College Football - Rivals.com

It's sad that colleges would not institute a Rooney Rule policy on themselves. So much for being progressive institutions of free thinking and equal opportunity--its only true if there isn't a lot of money on the line i guess.
