Posting and Toasting 2010 -- Realistically

With all of the upcoming free agent talent available, how likely is it that the Knicks will be able to attract two lucrative free agents?  Realistically, I think it is unlikely.  Players want to play with either or both of the following:

a) a dominant big man-- Knicks do not have one

b) a top-flight PG-- Knicks do not have one, either.

Further, the upcoming free agents available in these two categories are few and far between.  Chris Bosh and Amare are only two "dominant" big men available and there are no top-flight point guards available, unless you consider Steve Blake to be in that category.  With that said, what free agent would want to play with a bunch of role players can simply cannot help them win?

The more and more I think about it, the more the Knicks need to take a calculated risk, blow up their roster and pick up an upper level point guard before the trading deadline in February.  D'Antoni's system needs a top-flight point guard-- one that can move the ball and not turn it over.  It simply doesn't work without one.  The Bulls seem to want to move Kirk Hinrich.  The Blazers seem to want to move Andre Miller.  Although both have contracts that will cut somewhat into cap space for the free agent period, both are considerable upgrades over any Knicks and potential free agent point guard and may help lure a quality free agent or two (maybe the second would not be a max deal) and make the Knicks at least respectable again.

So my proposal, which seems somewhat realistic, is the following:

Knicks Trade:  Al Harrington and Jared Jeffries to Chicago for Kirk Hinrich, Tyrus Thomas and Jerome James.

The Bulls have a bad contract in Hinrich (9.5 mil for 3 years), so they are simply going to have to take another bad contract in return (Jeffries at 6.5 mil for 1 year).  However, that still gives them 3 mil more in cap space to try to lure Wade, who would definitely consider Chicago more than New York-- homecoming and they have a top flight PG in Rose.

Knicks Trade:  Wilson Chandler, Eddy Curry and Cuttino Mobley (or Larry Hughes) to Houston for Tracy McGrady

The Rockets do not want to have anything to do with McGrady, who at this point to them is just an expiring contract.  For them, this is more an addition by subtraction move while also getting a potential future talent in Chandler, insurance for Yao in Curry and cap relief in Mobley (or Hughes).

At least here everyone gets something that they want/need:  Knicks can get an upgrade at point guard in Hinrich that might actually lure a free agent or two (Amare?  Bosh?  Joe Johnson?  At least they know they can get the ball), Bulls get additional cap space to lure Wade and rid themselves of a bad contract and the Rockets get two luxuries (talent) for one headache in a market where I don't think the Rockets are supposed to be a major player in anyways.

It works on ESPN's trade machine.  I wanted to try to get another one done with Andre Miller and playing around with moving David Lee and/or Nate Robinson, but cannot do it until after Christmas.

Thoughts?
