Why Not Help Facilitate CP3 to LAL?
I know, I know... I hate the Lakers as much as anyone else, but let's face it, CP3 will not resign with us here. It is just a fact. I keep hearing that Monta/Biedrins/Klay Thompson for CP3 is on the table, which I would do in a heartbeat if we could get Paul to re-sign, but we can't. If New Orleans is interested in those pieces, why not facilitate a trade for CP3 to go somewhere he wants (LAL) and see if we can something back worth our while.
Monta Trade that Makes Sense
If you beleve the rumors, Monta wants out of Golden State and the Warriors are letting his agent look for potential trade partners. We all know that when a player demands a trade it is hard to get equal value in return, but here is a trade that I think might work:
Use the Midlevel to Bring Leon Powe Back to the BAY
Everyone keeps talking about what the Warriors should do in Free Agency but the bottom line is we can't do much other than offer someone the MLE of $5.8MM. After bringing in two PGs so far this offseason we have a ton of 1's, 2's and 3's. I don't know why people are suggesting we go after AI, Jarrett JAck, or JKidd - we need to use our MLE on some "beef".
That's why I think that we should bring Bay Area native and Cal alum Leon Powe back home
To Tank or Not to Tank and Who to take @ Number 8
Watching us beat up on Philly the other night was once again a bittersweet win. Of course I love seeing us win and it's nice to know that when healthy we win more games than we lose, but it sucks to once again start winning games at the end of the season, hurting our chances in the lottery. For those who havent checked the standings, the win against Philly moved us from the potential 7th spot to the 8th spot killing our already slim hope of getting a top two pick in this draft.
At first I was pretty pissed about us dropping a spot in the lottery...that win literally cut our chances at a top three pick in half. I have always thought it was a no brainer that if u were having an obvious lottery season then u should tank. But as I thought about our season yesterday I realized that I was thinking with a complete NBA 2K9 perspective. When I play Franchise mode on NBA 2K9, I turn the chemistry off and if we are losing, I will tank and that way my players dont get pissed when we lose game after game.
If we were to tank, I think it would cause embarrassment and anger amongst our squad and would destroy the chemistry of the team. More importantly, it would also take away from the purity of our franchise. The best thing about the warriors is that despite how bad we've been for so long, the fans still fill the seats, we keep hoping that no matter how bad things have been that next year is our year, and we keep having "a great time out".
In life the most honorable thing a man, an organization, or a team can do is to work with what you are given and make the best of your situation. That is why, I will forever abandon my NBA 2K9 way of thinking and oppose tanking for the rest of my fanhood
With that in mind, I think that if we get the 8th overall pick we should draft Tyreke Evans or trade down to get him in the mid teens (depending on his draft stock after this tourney). I know Evans is a combo guard that has far too many turnovers and not enough assists; However, I think he could be an ideal pick for us if we cant get a top three pick and get Griffin or Monroe.
Tyreke Evans would be a perfect complement to Monta because he coudl share the load brining the ball up the court and he's a 6'6 super long combo guard who gets a lot of steals and a lot of blocks. This would help out a ton matchupwise and sizewise. Evans tends to be a bit of a lazy defender and isnt a great rebounder for his size, but he has a ton of a potential in both departments.
Having both Evans and Monta would let us see who is a better PG and we could slowly push one of them into that position or they could continue to share the load. Also, Evans is a perfect fit to our uptempo offense.
Most of all, Evans has STAR potential. All the other potential PG's in this draft (outside of Rubio) have potential to be average role players to solid starters in the NBa. Tyreke Evans could be a star and would be a great addition to go along with Monta, Biedrins, Rudolph, and Bwright (but if this happens, I'd also like to see us trade Maggs and Bwright for a bulky 4 so we dont have the thinnest, longest team of all time)
What do ya'll think?
Challenge for JAE
Now Jae, in a couple different posts now I have commented on how I think we should make a trade for a big (just like everyone else on the site), and in particular, josh smith. And you replied to most of these comments telling me why it would be almost impossible for such a thing to go down.

Jsmooth Thoughts
Trade/Free Agent Ideas Thread
First and foremost let me say that I watched the summer league game against the Sixers today and was juiced with what I saw. Anthony Randolph was lookin like kevin durant out there -- I know we learned our lesson with Bellinelli last year that Summer league doesn't mean all that much, but Randolph sure looked good. I also liked waht I saw from brandan wright and CJ Watson. I thought tamar slay and demarcus looked pretty signable too.
That being said, we still need to acquire a backup pg and a backup pf/c or a replacment pf/c for Al. I love lookign at everyones ideas, but it gets tiresome looking at all the different posts. I was thinking we could consolidate the free agent/trade ideas to one thread.
Personally I like the idea of trading Al Harrington for Luke Ridnour and Chris Wilcox. Wilcox is a big physical presence that I think will complement beans and bwright well. I think it really would help our depth to have both a banger who can score--wilcox-- and one who can play defense--turiaf.
I also think Luke will be a servicable backup, especially with all the offensive firepower we have. He had a bad year last year, but his team sucked. The year when the Sonics made the playoffs, he averaged 12 and 7. He might be weak on D, but is def. not a bad backup.
Another thought I had was possibly signing jamaal magloire. 2 years ago he was averaging 9.5 boards a game. I know he wasn't getting much time in Dallas or NJ, but he is only 30 and only made $231,183 last year. What is his story?
Anyway I wanted to see what ideas you guys have about filling the pf and pg slots.

Let's be honest. This has been a terrible offseason. Someone give me hope
Come on everybody. I know we should be optimistic about our young guys, but this offseason has been a total dissapointment.
No matter how you slice it, Baron leaving is a big hit to this team. We lost our leader, our best player, our fire. The worst part of it is taht he wanted to stay and our managment decided that there is better things to do with our money than waste it on an injury prone 29 year old.
So, in a state of panic, we decided to offer MAX money to GIlbert Arenas who is a) injury prone (maybe even more of a concern since he is just coming back from multiple surgeries) and b) probably a less impactful player, and definitely not worth $40 mm more and c) there was no shot he'd sign with us.
Next we offer max money to an injury prone Elton Brand. If we had landed him it would've been a great move, but we knew we probably wouldn't. This move wasn't entirely bad though b/c we helped get Brand thinking and aided in shipping him to the East.
I really don't understand the next move though. Why do we sign Corey Magette to a 50 mm deal when we wouldn't give baron 65??? WE are stacked at the 2 and 3 and Corey Maggette is a downgrade at eitehr spot. Maggette is a poor defender, an average rebounder, and a mediocre shooter. If our lineup was set I think he'd be a great piece coming off the bench, but with the young guys on our roster and the money we offered him, he's going to expect to start.
Why would we lock up our money for the next 5 years to a guy who has never been a winner and plays a position that we are already set with?? The reason he scored 22/game is because he was taking all the Clippers shots.
I know we didn't want to look like we were coming out of the offseason empty handed, but I wouldve much rather thrown money at Josh Smith, Okafor, and possibly Iggy hoping to land a good young piece for multiple years. If we landed one of them it would've been great, and if not we wouldve had the cap space to add a few young guys with potential (ie. Livingston and K. Brown maybe telfair) and given our young guys the chance to play and get better. We also would have a chance to make a signing next year or in 2010 as our team is growing into its prime. Instead, we locked up a good chunk of money for 5 years in Corey Maggette, who in my opinion will not improve a team unless he's a 6th man.
Next we sign Rony Turiaf??? I hate this move too. Ronny does have heart, energy, and a big body, but he sucks!! He looked good in college, but I don't think his skill set is good enough to be a solid big in the NBA. He is clumsy and erratic. His best quality is his energy from the bench (honestly I'd rather have kept Sarunas!!)If we had filled out our lineup and had extra money leftover, I'd like him coming off the bench, but I'm frustrated that we wasted more of our cap space on an UGLY cheerleader.
Don't get me wrong, I'm optimistic about the Dubs future and think we have a good young core, but I really don't like the moves we're making. I hope both of these contracts don't go through and Baron comes back. I really think that if we signed Baron to his 5 year deal and then dealt Harrington and picks we couldve landed a big that would've put us in the thick of things.
Before Baron left we were a playoff team (assuming wright and bellinelli improved and w/o SJAX suspension). If we signed Baron for a little less, and traded Harrington, we'd be a real playoff team. Maybe we wouldn't be a legit contender, but we'd almost guarantee ourselves a chance to make a run. ANd most importantly we'd still have a young core growing behind them.
At this point, our team is worse than it was last year. I think we are a fringe playoff team at best and it is probably more likely that we wil take 9th or 10th in the West. We locked up money on average players and haven't improved our young core.
If seen us make dumber moves before (ie. Foyle signing, dunleavy+ murphy deals, getting rid of JRich), but that doesn't excuse us from making more dumb moves.
When we lost Baron I was really dissapointed, but still had hope that we had a future. Maybe not this year, but in years to come. Our recent moves have taken some of that hope away.
Somebody tell me where we go from here...
