community guidelines/code of conduct

so, i'm listening to npr this morning, and i know that we've agonized (larry in particular) about instituting the guidelines, but it seems that we may have been preemptive.

there are some frightening parts of the story as far as people's beliefs about what they can say in relative anonymity.

an observation on suspensions

maybe it's in part living in denver, but the discrepancy between nba supensions and mlb suspensions is grating on me.  melo throws a punch and is suspended for just under 20% of the season and begins serving immediately.  barrett throws several punches and seemingly never serves a reduced suspension that accounts for less than 10% of the season.  as long as i'm ranting, the nhl flipping encourages fighting.  i guess the question for the board is if and when mlb actually begins enforcing suspensions...and if they should.

best three years

i was just thinking that the last three baseball seasons '04, '05 and '06 have been the three most enjoyable cardinals seasons in my lifetime.  between the two 100 win seasons that were just fun to watch and the ws championship this year, i don't know that i've experienced a better three year run.  '81 and '82 were awesome, but '83 was pretty forgettable.  ws appearances in '85 and '87 were tremendous, but '86 was painful.  '96 through '98 were pretty good, but don't stack up.  i don't even like thinking about the '70's.  while '67 and '68 occurred during my lifetime, my 1 - 2 year old brain didn't really register their success.

i know it's sort of a random thought, but it's easy to get caught up in who they've signed or not, traded for or not, whether they've improved or not, and what they should do next, but...

it's been the best three years of my life to be a cardinal fan.

Rolen's slump

make no mistake, i love scott rolen however, there is no denying his significant role in the current streak/slide.

last 7 days: 2-20 with 1 rbi, 1 run scored and  1 walk.

this month:  13-68 with 11 rbi (7 in one game), 5 runs scored and 7 walks.

i also recognize that most players slump at some point during the season, but this is particularly bad timing.
