Enough already

I'm sorry I have to do this, but enough already Red Sox Nation. We're winning the division. Get over it.

I'm so tired of hearing about when "the slide is going to start" or when "the wheels are going to fall off". I know some of you on OTM are the typical trolls, but I hear this from genuine, dyed-in-the-wool Sox fans and I'm tired of it.

Earth to Sox fans:

We have lead the AL East since April! And while I haven't watched it consistently I believe we have had the best record in baseball for the same length.

Do you think the MFY would be acting like a bunch of neurotic freaks just waiting for the other shoe to drop? No. Just enjoy it. Yes we've had our share of disappointments and unfulfilled wishes things like Bill F'ing Buckner, and 1978 come to mind, but lets get real, shy of a Buckner class screw-up we're really going to the playoffs.

Don't count your chickens before they're hatched, but lets go on ahead and start counting the chicks we do have, eh? Not even the craziest of Yankee fans think they're going to win the AL East. So lets cross our fingers for Seattle (as long as they keep their moose away from our center fielder and move on to what we really do need to start worrying about: the playoffs.

Welcome Back Timlin

Sunday's game against the Diamondbacks featured the return of the much reviled Mike Timlin. So there it was, bottom of the 8th, Sox down 2-1 with the right-handed pitcher taking the mound to relieve Javier Lopez. Everyone knew he would change everything, and probably not for the better.

So the first pitch goes out and it's a bunt, right out in front of the plate. Timlin goes rushing after the ball and whips it to Youkilis at first.

It should be noted that "whips it to Youkilis" is only true if by "to Youkilis" we mean "completely over Youkilis's head." It's a three base error with the two inherited base runners scoring.

Timlin then proceeds to walk a guy, followed by a pop out, a foul out, and a single that brings the error home.

Finally, the last batter gets caught looking and the terror that was Mike Timlin sits himself back down in the dugout to watch us now loose a 5-1 game instead of a 2-1 game.

A job well done. No earned runs, and a WHIP of 2.0 for the day.
