Astros vs. Braves - Pictcha Post
Ah, yes. As Mac Thomason wrote at Braves Journal, there's "nothing like a dose of the Astros to cure what ails you." Rain loomed for a while Saturday at Turner Field but never came. Eventually, we got some sunlight, but it was never a truly comfortable day. However, the baseball was superb. The crowd was fairly tranquil and tepid early on, except when Jason Heyward came to bat. The guy can't legally drink and Turner Field is already crazy about him. Troy Glaus received some moans and groans early on, but we warmed up to him today. :)
I want to say how ANNOYING the idiots with the quad drums and other conduits to noise-making racket are in front of the stadium. Thank you and goodbye. Here you are trying to enjoy some pre-game conversation, purchase your tickets, and check out some of the monuments, but you can barely process your thoughts because we've got some people thinking we've just showed up for a varsity football jamboree! End of rant.
A beautiful yard.
A good reason why I should have gotten in shape and practiced baseball every day.
Meet Stoney.
So, I made one-sided buddies with this dude I named Stoney.
Stoney tossed back a few beers and enjoyed some pizza on his Saturday out at Turner Field.
Stoney caught Heyward fever shortly after the first inning and returned with a jersey!
Seventh-inning stretch time!
And here we have the worst haircut I think I've ever seen.
View from the seats!
What's a trip to Atlanta without hitting Fogo de Chao?
I was about to burst this time around. Laughing was legitimately difficult, yet so worth it.
And, finally, for the guys of Talking Chop:
royhobbs one-upped.

Hudson refutes report, says he wants to stay
"This makes me sound like I'm saying ‘Screw y'all, I'm out of here,' which isn't the case at all. I've said all along that Atlanta was the place I want to be and that I'm willing to give them a hometown discount.
Kelly Johnson arrested, charged with aggravated battery
ATLANTA, GA (AP) — An Atlanta man was arrested and charged with aggravated battery on Wednesday afternoon after police say he bashed a man across the head while he slept.
Atlanta Police Chief Richard Pennington says Kelly Andrew Johnson, 27, was taken into custody on Wednesday afternoon following a brief standoff at his downtown condominium. No one was injured.
A witness told officials that he saw Johnson bash Martín Manuel Prado of Maracay, Venezuela, across the head with a steel pipe as he slept in his Duluth home. Investigators took time in gathering the evidence before obtaining warrants for Johnson's arrest. Atlanta Police refused to discuss any motives.
Prado, 25, has been experiencing strange neurological symptoms since the attack and is now undergoing a thorough battery of tests to determine what damage may have been caused in Johnson's alleged attack.
At press time, no bond had been set. Johnson is set to be arraigned on Thursday morning in an Atlanta court.

Baseball America: Midseason Top 25 Prospects
Guess who's No. 1....?
A year ago today, July 3rd, 2008, Jeff Francoeur was sent to AA Mississippi. "I do not agree with this, but I have to do what I have to do," Francoeur told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution in a text message that morning. "This has really put a damper on my relationship with the Atlanta Braves."
At the time of his demotion, Francoeur had an OPS of .662. Today, July 3rd, 2009, Francoeur has an OPS of .628.
Send him back, Frank!
Regarding Garret Anderson...from a Braves fan
I asked Halos Heaven about Garret Anderson and his lazy and apathetic demeanor on the field. Here are their responses...
Regarding Garret Anderson...from a Braves fan
Greetings, Halos Heaven.
I come with a question: has Garret Anderson always had "lazy" and "lackluster" body language? I ask this because many Braves fans this year are incredibly resistant to Garret because of his on-field body language. He appears statuesque and almost bored to death in the field and there's just a general dislike for him. He's gotten nicknames like "Jogging G.A.", "Uncle Garret's Sleepytime Jamboree" and "F.U.G.A."
Personally, I think it's dangerous to draw conclusions based on body language--people are different and have different emotional responses to certain situations. He's had a couple of questionable baserunning decisions with regards to hustle but I'm just curious for your opinions on this.
Thanks, Go Braves, and Go Angels.

Tom Glavine, LHP, free agent: Looks as though he'll be slipping into retirement, spending time with the kids and settling into family life. Glavine is about to receive the first of six deferred annual payments of $2.5 million from his Mets contract. He's also shying away from a grievance against the Braves.
Buddy Carlyle diagnosed with type-1 diabetes
It’s been a life-changing few days for Braves pitcher Buddy Carlyle, who was diagnosed with type-1 diabetes and began taking insulin injections Friday.
After losing nearly 20 pounds in recent weeks, Carlyle went in for bloodwork Wednesday that revealed an extremely high sugar level.
Bisher missed another epsom salt bath...
Is there not enough patience to help him work his way through it? Whoever thought it could come to this for Jeff Francoeur.
There are very few fairy tales in this game, Furman. The fact of the matter is, that "Homegrown Hero" has a .244 average with 16 home runs, 96 RBIs, and a .659 OPS in 210 games since Sept. 19, 2007.
The Braves have demonstrated more patience than 98% of professional organizations would have. After last season, most teams would have non-tendered Francoeur.
Dead weight ultimately will never survive on a Major League roster.
There are just too many outs in this line-up.

Chip Caray's favorite question...
When I look at myself in the mirror, I'd have to say that my fault is that I've given Francoeur a break for far too long. There's no doubt that the leniency stems from the fact that he's a great guy. But at the end of the day we all have a job to do. My job is to relay information to the public and thus, I've written two entries this week preparing you for the possibility that Frenchy's days in Atlanta might be numbered. It will be very difficult for the Braves to trade him. As for a return to the Minors, I don't know if that would help anybody. Thus, you can't ignore the possibility that if things don't improve soon there's a definite possibility that they could release him.

Extra special Mother's Day for Kotchman
From a Braves fan, I thought Angels fans would enjoy reading this. A very heart-warming story.
Brian McCann's new look. Hot or not? [Editor's Note: dork or dork?]
Braves’ talent on the farm has dried up
Seriously, Furman? Do you think you're writing for The Onion or something?
Behind the Story: Jordan Schafer
Take one look at the Braves clubhouse these days. It's there that you'll see how Jordan Schafer is a changed man.
Joey Devine undergoes Tommy John Surgery

Kelly Johnson twitching?
Ok so as im watching the game Sunday afternoon they would show Kelly on tv every once and a while. He looks normal for the most part, but has anyone else noticed the random twitch in his hands/fingers and sometimes near his eyes too? I know he's young so it's probably nothing , but does anyone think this is something serious?
Maybe he's twitching because Bobby just benched him after going 4-5 with 4 RBI. Or maybe he's tired of Bobby's man love for Latin American middle infielders, like Martin Prado. But anyways...
Anyone else notice this or concerned?

Jordan Schafer got first base - the first base he touched in Philadelphia on his first major league homer - sent to him by the Phillies. He was pretty excited about that. Cool gesture by the Phillies. Jordan knows Charlie Manuel because they both live in the Winter Haven, Fla. area, but he’s not sure if Manuel was behind it or who. But pretty classy.
