Just saw an article from the Dallas Morning News where it looks like Terence Newman is close to signing a contract extension. I know there has been a lot of talk about this, and whether he would demand too much from us or if we could a hometown discount. It looks as though he wants to stay here and get a deal done soon. All I can say is good for Jerry and Steven! This is huge in my estimation, we need to lock this guy up because I am in the camp that believes he is a top 5 corner in this league.

Now just waiting to hear more about the two no-shows at OTAs. We need to the Barbarian re-signed along with Hamlin. I just hope we aren't overlooking these guys while they are working on T-News deal. That could breed some bad blood.

I know it has been mentioned before, but I would like to put out a formal petition here on Blogging the Boys that we refer to our newly acquired cornerback with a troubled past only as Adam Jones and leave the nickname, that he was formerly known, by back in Tennessee.

I think the new start in a new place should come along with forgetting about that stupid nickname that he used when got in so much trouble. A new start for #21 for the Dallas Cowboys, Adam Jones.

 	<fieldset class="poll-box">
  <legend>Poll</legend>

What do you think about forever forgetting "Pacman" and only recognizing Adam Jones on BTB?

I like it, Pacman was left in Tennesse, it's Adam now.

That is stupid, he will always be Pacman Jones

You can call him Xena Warrior Princess for all I care, as long as he stays out of trouble and preforms well in Big D

NFL Owners Meeting

I just saw on the Bottom Line on ESPN that the Owners are discussing changing playoff seeding for the upcoming season. The change would be that when a Wildcard team has a better record than a division winner, that team will get to play a home game. Perfect example this year would have been the Giants (10-6) playing at the Bucs (9-7) this year.

I would like to see this rule change. For a team like the Bucs to be allowed to play a home game just because they play in the worst division in football is a raw deal for the rest of the conference. You have a team, who is clearly inferior, playing a home game instead of allowing the team who was better during the course of the season to reward it's fans with one more game. In this case the Bucs were 5-1 in their division and only 4-6 against the rest of the conference.

The only down side to this is I can see the slippery slope you are starting to climb. What happens when a division winner is say 9-7 or 8-8 and the two wildcards are 10-6 or 9-7, then you have a third team that is 10-6 or 9-7 who loses out because of tiebreakers. You gave higher seeding to the two wildcards because they had better records, what about the third team who also has a better record than that division winner and misses the playoffs completely? Would that lead to doing away with division winners all together?

What do you guys think?

Looks like Hackett has officially spurned the advancements of ole' Danny Boy in Washington. Hackett signed with the Panthers today. I always like seeing a rival of ours miss out on a player they desperately need.

The one thing I don't really get is that Hackett stated he wanted to play for a contender and I could see the Deadskins being considered as such and to some extent the Bucs, being defending NFC South Champs, but the Panthers? I just don't see how that makes sense, I guess it really was all about the money.

http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/s...

Its a sad day for football. This is a surprise to me after the kind of year he had this past season. Football will miss greatly, as in my opinon was one of the all-time greats.

ESPN's Chris Mortensen reported that according to Favre's agent, Buss Cook, Favre informed Packers coach Mike McCarthy of his decision Monday night.

This time of year, as it has been referred to as the "silly season" is all about players. We are concentrating on free agency and the draft has consumed us all. So I wanted to start this diary about scheme. What sort of things do you look for the Cowboys to do more of next year, with the players we currently have. No talking about draft picks or free agents, only what do you want to see more or less of this upcoming season.

I for one would love to see Dallas implement more screens into the offense. The playoff game against the Giants sparked this. With their pass rush killing us through the second half we could have used their aggressive defense against them by throwing in a few simple screens. And I have seen the Eagles use the screen so well in the recent past that I would love for us to develop this skill. Also, in the Tuna years I always looked forward to a good flea flicker once in a while, I would like to see a few more trick or gadget plays thrown in for good fun.

Defensively I want to see that aggressive Phillips 34. I want to see a few more corner blitz and such, I know it takes a better secondary to send the corner on a blitz, but it worked pretty well in the Green Bay game, but I didn't see it too much else during the season.

Oh well, thats all I could think of for the moment. So get away from draft picks and free agents for a few minutes, and let us know what do you want to see more of"Scheme Wise" during our Superbowl Run next year?

Looks like the Eagles have signed the former New England Cheatriot. The article says 6 years, i heard it was supposed to be around 60 million, quite a big price tag for the man that could have won the Superbowl and choked.

They also are now supposedly shopping either Lito Shepard or Sheldon Brown, both of whom I wouldn't mind playing with a star on their helmet. I think the Iggles will probably as too much for our liking though.

Holy Crap I think the universe as we know it just came to an end. I am watching 1st and 10 and Skip Bayless not only picked the Cowboys, after admitting that he was trying to find a way to pick the Giants. But then he proceeded to admit that the TO-Primetime interview that TO sounded very confident and not overly cocky, but was truly ready to go and was going to toast the Giants secondary. He actually said "Get your popcorn ready"

I think the world as we know it is ending, things just turned upside down and I am not sure that I like Skip Clueless picking us to win....

Living in Redskins country can be quite trying at times. I end up listening to Redskins Radio, owned and operated by Mr. Daniel Synder, and thinking about how bad they analyze the team and the league. Today I heard something that got me really jacked up and excited about our show down. I know it is many weeks off, and it is looking really far ahead, but I couldn't help but be giddy over it. Clinton Portis was talking about how great their defense is, and how hard Sean Taylor and the rest of the team hit people. And I had the crazy thought, the hair raising exciting thought of MBIII lowering his head and running Sean Taylor right over. I can't wait!!! I can just see it now, imagine the Archuleta hit, but better and MBIII goes right over him and romps in for a touchdown.

I know we have several big games before that point, most notably the Patriots next week, and I hate to look ahead in the schedule. But this just got me excited. Maybe we will see a preview next week when he runs the steroid user over! I love how hard this kid runs!!!!

I just saw this list on SI.com, and was somewhat surprised to see someone in the media give T.O. credit for his pro-bowl calliber season last year (although he is a former NFL receiver himself). What was more surprising was the absence of Terry Glenn. I believe there at very least 10 receivers on that list that I would take Glenn over in a heart beat. For example Calvin Johnson, no offense Grizz, hasn't even played a down in pre-season let alone an actual game and although I think he will turn out to be one of the all-time greats, no way does he belong on that list just yet. I think he belongs no lower than 18 on this list and there are a few higher up that I do not think belong there, like Plaxico or Lee Evans. Definately a top 20 IMO.

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/200...
