It took only two exhibition games for Kings coach Paul Westphal to see the effect Jimmer Fredette could have on the team's offense.Though Fredette can have an impact without the ball, Westphal said, the Kings need to get the ball to the rookie more often. With Fredette's shooting and playmaking ability, teams will have to monitor him at all times, which should open the floor for his teammates. With the season opener against the Los Angeles Lakers four days away, the Kings are still learning how to do that."I think our spacing needs a lot of work," Westphal said after Wednesday's practice. "I think we missed (Fredette) a few times where we should have got him the ball."

Great work as always. Some of the YouTube videos are broken... hopefully they fix it soon.

Needing your hoops fix? Jimmer's All-Stars exhibition game is tonight, featuring our #18 draft pick. Tonight at 9pm on BYUtv. DirecTV channel 374, or watch online at http://byutv.org or on the BYUtv iPhone/iPad app. Should be a fun game with some good talent, including Jimmer, Kemba, Bismack, Kawhi, and others.

Jimmer just announced on KSL radio, that he'll be hosting two games in Utah, involving players from the 2011 Draft Class. He confirmed that Tyler Honeycutt and Isaiah Thomas will be joining him, as well as many other Rookies, including Kemba Walker. He will update who will be attending as the date approaches. The games will be take place Wednesday, Sept. 21 and Thursday, Sept. 22.

Both games will be broadcast on KSL Radio, the 2nd game will be broadcast on BYUTV. You can watch BYUTV live online, or on their free iPad/iPhone app. I assume the first game will not be televised.

Here is audio of the announcement.

Jimmer already knows this, but always good to re-state it.

Great turnouts. I was expecting Jimmer to say about championships: "Not two, not three, not four, not five, not six, not seven..."

Really good draft preview. Says Wizards should pick Jonas Valanciuanas.

With the Mavs comeback last night, some are talking about the best playoff comebacks. This is clearly the best playoff comeback ever. Go Bullets!

"Washington Wizards and Capitals owner Ted Leonsis talks about what it's like being an owner of two pro teams and trying to use the successful model of the Capitals to improve the Wizards."

I love the B.S. Report, so I'm stoked for this long episode. Haven't listened to it yet, but I guarantee it will be worthwhile.

I think he voices that which we've all been saying. Is this the best Ernie could do?

I'm with him that the Kings killed it. And analyzing the draft, coming away with Wall, Hinrich, Seraphin, and Booker isn't a bad day. Interested to see how this Seraphin kid develops. We love 'em raw, I guess.

This is a libertarian publication, so you can predict the angle at which they will portray this story. And you may be sick of rehashing the painful story, but this worthy of a read. I read Reason every day, so I was excited to see they did a piece on my still-favorite player, especially in his defense.

I want to see more and more articles like these. Ted needs to get the message here. The only question - is it disrespectful to Abe? I honestly don't care - it's not his team anymore - and the fans want it. Restore the proper name.

But here's one for you: What if the Wizards were winning? Say everything's hunky dory, Washington comes back from that West Coast trip with a 17-8 record, rather than 8-17. Say Arenas is averaging 29 points and eight assists and is on his way to a fourth All-Star appearance and the Comeback Player of the Year award. What then? Would the world have even known that possibly five guns were in the Wizards' locker room? Two league insiders say "No chance," and "Probably not." Charles Barkley last night on national television also said this wouldn't have gotten out if it was a winning squad.

As I wrote shortly after the initial report of Arenas storing guns in his locker, the Wizards aren't the first team to learn a player has a gun on team property, I'm told. The players are simply told Get that out of here, and receive a stern talking to. This situation is more serious than someone simply carrying a weapon on their person, but the insiders I asked seem to think that although Ernie Grunfeld would have been furious, that he would have huddled everyone together for a tongue lashing and swept it under the rug, and the Wizards would have went on jockeying for position among the Eastern Conference's elite.

Mike Jones plays the what-if game

I was wondering this same thing. Arenas is not the first person to bring a gun to the locker room. Why did this story get out? Was it a player? The Wizards front office? Some peon intern?

This should be pretty interesting to see what happens. I say everyone check their egos at the door and get back to playing ball. I also say that's unrealistic. Gil is still a baller.

I know I'm in the minority, but this is disgraceful. The Wizards are pulling the plug on a harmless guy. Absolutely harmless. With all the talks of thugs, violence, and the NBA - Arenas just doesn't belong with the likes of Stephen Jackson or Ron Artest. I love Ron Ron (he's hilarious), but to be put in his same boat with a similar punishment is, well you guessed it, absurd.

I'm so sad about all this.

about 2 years ago Byu_logo_500x500_tiny se7en 4 comments

Editor's Note: As I understand it, the league is only getting involved because it's possible Arenas had the gun on league property or while doing something league-related. They seem not to care if you have it in your house.

Mike Jones tweets that Gil isn't facing criminal charges, which is good. So I'm guessing now he has a gun, maybe it's registered and he mistakenly had it on NBA property. As always, though, there's a lot more information to figure out.

via Twitter

Fine or suspension? Hopefully just suspension. Can anyone clarify the rules concerning this issue? Does the NBA have any regulations about this, or is it just him having a gun without a permit, or what is it? This is stupid, in my opinion. :)

Gil said earlier this week that I needed to be more of a catch-and-shoot player in this system with Flip Saunders now in town. You know what? I’m going to adapt to any situation. If it’s about coming off screens, catching and shooting now, I’ll do that.

Caron's Blog

Seems he's got two, but anyways, this 'adaptation' should be interesting. This quote is quite timely with Prada's latest post.

Surprise! Guess who starts at SG vs. IND? Not DeShawn. Not Randy. It's Nick Young! Goes from not playing to starting in 2 weeks.

Very interesting. I know how important D-Steve's D was, but I was just thinking to myself, it really hurts to have someone in there that can't hit an open shot and loves to get into a long triple threat every time he touches the ball, slowing down the flow of the offense. I'm very happy. I think Nick can succeed. Am I and pantslessyoda1 the only ones? :)
