Here's how dumb coaches are: Just this season, we witnessed coaches playing Kevin Durant at shooting guard, slowing down Steve Nash, playing slow-it-up with the Sixers, bringing Rip Hamilton off the bench, burying Anthony Randolph on a lottery team, playing Darius Songaila over JaVale McGee on a lottery team, ignoring the stat that's about to impress you when we get to the Nowitzki paragraph, and doing everything that Mike Dunleavy did. There's a reason 85 percent of these guys get canned within three years.

Sports Guy's '09 MVP Race You aren't a true NBA fan if you don't read Simmons' columns. They're fabulous and entertaining. Don't agree with him all the time, but he does have a buddy (named House) who is a die-hard Wiz fan, whom he talks shop with often. I do agree that Tap didn't play JaVale enough this year. He was concentrated on winning, of course, and how did that turn out for us? This will be a big summer for JaVale. Learn from Haywood, my friend.

Ivan's Forecast: Gil not to play, Flip Saunders as coach?

I can't say I'm thrilled about the first, but what do you all think of the second? Sounds good to me...

Sporting Blog: Arenas Should Not Come Back

We're going to have articles like this since the guy is flip-flopping like crazy. He should do whatever will make the team more prepared for next season.

I had the pleasure of sitting next to ESPN Page 2 columnist LZ Granderson during the game...He said this was his second time seeing the Wizards, and his first time seeing the Hawks play. I asked him what he thought of the Wizards and he said, "They are terrible, and they need to blow this team up." He also said that this team would not improve much when Gilbert Arenas comes back. Ouch

Hoops Addict Mobley has some interesting notes from the Atlanta-Wiz game, some of which are worth reading. Granderson thinks we should blow the team up... Thoughts? ;)

Arenas: Last place could be "for the better" for Wizards

I don't like that sentiment, but he's right. If we're talking last place, and thus, lottery picks... Blake Griffin is looking quite nice right now. He could replace a never-will-reach-his-potential Blatche and an aging Jamison in the future.

"I threw one a little short [against Utah] but man, that kid is always coming and slipping to the rim," Dixon said. "He's really figuring it out. Once he learns the game on that low block and bulks up a little bit, I see no reason why he can't be like Dwight Howard." - Juan Dixon

JaVale comes up big

3 Words On McGee: START THE KID

I have to agree with Wise on this one. Sure he has some awkward drives to the basket. Sure his basketball IQ isn't as high as Etan's. But there is a reason that EJ had him playing 27 minutes tonight, and Etan only 13. Dude is already better than Kwame was (is?). However, he will be getting himself into foul trouble often. He can't move his feet as quickly and as rationally as, say Garnett can, but he's a work in progress. And we'll have Etan there to play the 13 minutes that he should. [Ed. Note: This might be the best article of the week. It supports JaVale McGee starting, JaVale puts an end to the discussion about whether or not he can dunk on a 12 foot rim (with six inches to spare!) and there's a quote from Gheorghe Muresan. This is heaven for a Wizards fan.]

BDL on how the Wizards need CHANGE

[Ed. Note: For the record, I think it's still too early to be calling for anyone's head just yet, but I understand the sentiment. Of course, I also thought when the Colts fired Jim Mora that it was a big mistake, so take that for what it's worth. -Jake]

Basketball Prospectus prediction: 3rd in SE, 40-42

7

Using their own formulas, Basketball Prospectus makes their Wizards record prediction. 40-42 seems about right, of course. However, I find myself being a bit more optimistic (like PM's 43-39), in hopes that the Wizards, again, might surprise us. However, that seems unlikely without Haywood AND Arenas. The East got much better, and we got worse. (Sure Dominic has improved his shot, Nick Young may evolve into a 15 PPG guard, and we picked up an athletic 7-footer who can fly, but most will agree our team is relatively worse with the loss of Haywood.) Other notes of interest: Their new formula for NBA projection (SCHOENE), predicts there is a 47.7% of the Wizards making the playoffs. The formula can predict "what if" scenarios, like say, if Haywood weren't injured. With Haywood playing, the formula predicts us with a 44-38 record (thus Haywood only has us winning 4 more games). That is an interesting thought, and PM has gone into length explaining why we'll be just fine without Haywood. Nick Young is predicted to take a dramatic step forward this season. The talent is there, and with Roger Mason gone and Arenas hurt, so is the opportunity. He is predicted to have 15 PPG. I'm interested to see how the season plays out. There will be some ups and downs, but I love watching my Wizards.

Preseason & Regular Season: Any Correlation?

Maybe Javale's line the other night means nothing at all. :)

Haywood Has Sprained Right Wrist

As if things couldn't get worse. It's just a sprain, though.

Which got me thinking: what would Obama's executive cabinet look like if he could only assemble it choosing current NBA players? Here's what I came up with: ... Attorney General: Etan Thomas. The US Attorney General is the head of the Department of Justice concerned with legal affairs and is the chief law enforcement officer of the United States government. Etan Thomas is smart. Works for me.

BDL's Dream Team Cabinet I read BDL every day; it's entertaining and I just love the daily 'Create-a-Caption' contest. The winners usually make me laugh. This post is pretty entertaining, leaving my political views aside. I can just see Dikembe waving his finger as Secretary of Defense.

Ty Lawson Arrested: Driving after Drinking

Alright, I know he isn't a Wizard (yet?), but is there something in the air? Keep an eye on any potential draftees that are arrested: in some weird way, we might pick them!

In other Wizards-related news, it appears crooked former NBA ref Tim Donaghy made bets on a 2006 Wizards game, using inside information to help make his decision. The Wizards were playing the Grizzlies and according to prosecutors, Donaghy first had picked the Grizzlies to win. But after hearing from an official NBA scorer a short time before the game that Memphis had a bunch of injuries that night, Donaghy made a phone call to change his pick to the Wizards, who were favored by eight points. Washington won 116-101.

Source: Mike Jones [WashTimes] This is kinda funny. Don't bet against the Wiz! Nobody Beats the Wiz! Sorry, no YouTube clip for that one.

Mike Jones on Crybaby James

Mike hits the nail on the head with this analysis. The basic gist: Lebron can't shoot, cries for fouls, and dabs his lip and looks at his hand after every foul.
