As We Look Ahead to 12-13, A Final Word on 11-12

As Everton prepares to open the new campaign a week from Monday, the aim could not be any more clear: come out firing on all cylinders, score plenty of goals early on, and avoid the slow starts...

Pienaar Deal Close?

+

David Moyes is suggesting that Everton could finally be nearing an agreement to take Steven Pienaar from Tottenham on a permanent basis. The team would fund the purchase using the Yobo money from Fenerbahce, as the two clubs finally seem to have agreed a price for the Nigerian defender. Please be true. The sooner Pienaar gets into the team and training, the better.

Fixtures!

1

Everton open at home to Manchester United on August 18. I like this... if we lose, who cares, we're supposed to lose. If we win or even draw, it's an excellent start to the season. Other highlights: - First away game: 8/25 @ Aston Villa - Derbies: 10/27 v Liverpool, 5/4 @ Liverpool - Boxing Day: 12/26 v Wigan Athletic - Last game: 5/19 @ Chelsea

My apologies if someone else was going to put this up; thought I'd go ahead for anyone wanting to discuss the match. We're currently 0-0 in the 16th minute. COYB!

Tim Howard signs new four-year contract

3

The deal will keep the American keeper at Goodison Park through 2016. Howard has been taking a bit of heat from Everton fans recently after a few shaky performances, and my initial reaction is that four years might be overkill for a 33-year-old player. Still, Howard is a good keeper so at least we're set at that position for the foreseeable future. Now can we quit buying expensive backup keepers who never play??

I could start this report off with any number of snarky comments about "the magic of the FA Cup" and the relative quality of this match, but you know what? I don't really feel like doing that...
