Blogging The Boys What Difference Does a Fan Make?

First off let me make something very clear, this is not a call out or gripe at ANYBODY! Everything that I'm addressing is something that I actively do and will continue to do. What brought this to an idea is that several comments on play-off positioning, future Gnats games, etc. are filled with people complaining about us overlooking the next opponent. While I certainly want the team focused on the next game up, what difference does it make if we the fans do?

I have lots of desktop photos for my other sports teams, but only one for my beloved Cowboys. The one I have currently is good but has the Barbarian as one of the players and so is outdated. If any of you have a good source for these, please share. Hopefully this can be a place that all of us can use to update our computer love.

Blogging The Boys Should Wade's contract be extended???

Buddy who lives in the Dallas area said that this was the topic of the mediots most of the morning yesterday. Our Boys do something bad and they are ready to run the lot out of town, do something good and they are full of the cheese. He was incredulous over it. His reasoning was sound, what has he done to deserve it? What has he proven yet? Wait until he shows the capability of getting us over the December/playoff hump.

Got me to thinking however (I know, scary stuff). What if it was smart to simply hedge your bet so to speak? IF, I say IF, you could extend his contract in such a way that gives him an extension with some pay increase, but keeps the possibility of sending him packing at the end of the year. You are covered both ways. If he is able to do it, he gets some stability and you've locked him up from other teams when he could command more money. That would save you money down the road. If he isn't able to get us over that hump, you aren't restricted from moving on.

Again, this post isn't meant to make the arguement that he should get one based on merit in anyway whatsoever. I completely disagree with the premise of what the media was arguing. My line of thinking was based on a past fanshot by Tim Wilson, http://www.bloggingtheboys.com/2009/10/19/1091130/youre-not-a-winner-until-youre-a. We don't know how this season is going to play out, but enjoy the ride and plan for the what ifs.

Blogging The Boys What attitude would Goldilocks find just right?

If you are here, you love your football, or in particular, your Cowboys. You aren't satisfied with the normal, passing coverage you find in the main stream media. You want a detailed breakdown and conversation about nothing else. If a thread wanders of post, whether interesting or not, some are quick to jump an offender and get right back to topic. A legitimate arguement could be made that most of us are addicts of sorts. It wouldn't be much of a stretch to say that we aren't addicted to just Cowboys football, but WINNING Cowboys football. If we don't win, we suffer withdrawals and are sure that the end of the world is near.

Some of the more negative posts that I came across during the game Sunday were for the most part the exception to what I have always run into at this site. They did get me to thinking however. What is considered normal? Somebody mentioned how easy it was to break down plays and research data after a win, but just couldn't find the will to do it when we lost. I definately fit into this category. If we win, I watch all day, hell, all week just hoping for glimpses of replays and to hear the commentators talk about us. I go to all different sites looking for additional sources to justify my feel good attitude. If we lose, I may watch some (not counting end of year when other teams affect our playoff chances), but it is more in passing and I definately don't want to see any breakdowns (this site not withstanding) or replays. I more or less crawl into an avoidance hole for a few days until I can get up for the next game. We even expect the players to do the same thing, there is nothing more important outside of winning football.

It is a natural tendency to see things that are our way to be the norm, for example, driving speed. When I'm driving, my current speed is how fast everyone else should be going. If they are going faster than me, they are going too fast and are a danger to society. If they are going slower, then they need to get out of the way, they are holding up traffic. The mere fact that most of us use the term 'we' when refering to the Cowboys, as I have done most of this post, shows that we feel a direct connect to our team.

So...I ask you, what is your addiction level? How does a win/loss affect your attitude/life outside of football? Just what is normal anyway?
