Battle Red Blog Couple of draft thoughts

I know a number of people here want a big run stuffing DT.  I really don't understand why.  The first three games this year were horrible and I account that to the LBs learning the new system and not staying in their lanes.  If you look at the rushing yards per game for the final 13 games then they had the second best run defense in the NFL.  I personally would rather have FS Earl Thomas or OG Mike Iupati.

Second I'm getting a mancrush on Toby Gerhart.

I would definately be willing to take him in the second, he would be a steal in the third.  If you look that the 1:48 mark, he can even throw a HB pass (not that I ever want to see a Texan run that play again).  From what I've been able to see he's a downhill runner, plays well behind his pads, not stopped by the first tackler, has decent speed, and is willing to lower his shoulder and punish a tackler.  I think this guy is what Kubes wanted as a short yardage back.

Battle Red Blog AJ injury update

Johnson was injured when he caught a 44-yard pass on what proved to be the winning field-goal drive. He fell on the ball, coughed up blood and went to the sideline.

Johnson returned briefly, but when he tried to return a second time, some members of the team’s medical staff hid his helmet to keep him on the sideline rather than risk further injury.

*good Durga AJ has a heart the size of an elephant, is not a diva, and want to play.  I didn't think I could respect him more- I was wrong.

Battle Red Blog Travis Johnson Traded To Chargers

From the Chronic...

The Texans have traded defensive tackle Travis Johnson to the San Diego Chargers. The Texans dealt Johnson for a conditional draft choice that could be a fifth- or sixth-round pick, depending on his performance.

Johnson, the first-round pick in 2005, had been out while recovering from surgery for a sports hernia. He was supposed to play for the first time in the last regular-season game against Tampa Bay and be ready for the regular-season opener against the New York Jets.
