Over the Monster Say no on Delcarman for Nick Johnson swap

Why do the Sox need a first baseman with Kevin Youkilis hitting .400?

Trading a great relief pitcher for a veteran 1b man is no good. I have faith that Theo won't pull the trigger.

Lastly, I can see the point that rotoworld makes about how good Johnson is doing and that the Red Sox have the pitching depth to make up for the Delcarman loss, but i still wouldn't do it.

Do you think the Red Sox can get more than Nick Johnson for Manny Delcarman?

I sure do.

Over the Monster Minor lines from 4/13

I had this new idea after seeing this for years at Mccovey Chronicles-so here goes!

AAA- RESULT-Pawtucket lost to Rochester 5-3

* Charlie Zink was wild, while walking 6 in just 4.1 innings. He have up 4 runs.

* Dusty Brown had the only extra base hit, and RBI double. While in the squat, he made a bad throw trying to trow out a runner.

* Pawtucket did outhit Rochester by a 10 to 7 margin

AA-RESULT-Portland beat New Britain 10-6

* This game involved horrible fielding by both teams. New Britain made a unworldly 5 errors. Portland made 2.

* Felix Doubront had the stuff (7 K), but couldn't get 5 innings through. Both hits he gave up resulted in runs. He went 4.1 innings

* Catcher Mark Wagner lifted the only Portland HR in the game

ADVANCED A RESULT-Salem lost to Potomac 8-6

*Seth Garrison did bad, while giving up 5 earned runs in 4 frames.

* Kyle Fernandes had a great long relief game. He tossed 3 scoreless innings, with 2 hits and 1 strikeout

*  Catcher Sean Rooney had a key single that scored 3 runs

CLASS A RESULT-Greenville beat Hickory 5-4

* Despite a rough outing from starter Yeiper Castillo, Greenville won the game with a 9th inning 2 run comeback.

* Mitchell Harold pitched greatly, locking the game up with 2 hitless frames and 4 strikeouts.

* Center Fielder Peter Hissey, who is off to a great start this season, got 2 hits,1 a double, to help win the game.

Tomorrow I will post todays minor lines, just for a heads up.

Over the Monster The great Tazawa is done for the spring-bound for AA

http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20090322&content_id=4046476&vkey=news_mlb&fext=.jsp&c_id=mlb Terry liked his performance this spring. In fact, Saito said he felt comfortable, calm and collected. FORT MYERS, Fla. -- Though Junichi Tazawa packed his bags for Minor League camp on Sunday morning after being optioned to Double-A Portland, it was abundantly clear that the transaction had nothing to do with his performance for the Red Sox during Spring Training. Earlier in camp, 39-year-old veteran Takashi Saito marveled at how his countryman was adapting to his new surroundings.

Over the Monster Oil Can Boyd comeback to Sox?

Here's a highlight from Nick Cafardo's latest article in the Boston Globe...

  • Here's something I can't believe I'm typing... can Dennis "Oil Can" Boyd make a Major League comeback at age 49? Oil Can hasn't pitched since 1991, but claims his velocity is back up in the low 90s, and his curveball is back to form. He's always dreamt of carrying on Satchel Paige's legend and pitching into his 60s. Boyd's quote:

""I have nothing to lose, and all a major league team has to lose is 15 minutes," said Boyd. "Give me 15 minutes and I'll show I can still pitch. That's all I want."

Boyd threw at the Red Sox fantasy camp, and former catcher Mike Stanley said that Oil Can's stuff is the same as it was 18 years ago, and his passion hasn't died down one bit.

Certainly an interesting story, but can he live up to his word?

Minor League Ball Big Z hurls no hitter

1 walk allowed in the 110 pitch performance. WOW! I am for sure going to watch this game on mlb.tv when I wake up in the morning. This is the second this season, the first being done by no other than John Lester! WOW, Zambrano is HAPPY! The 75 words thing is killing me right now! But hey, this is only the 2nd of the year! Not bad for big Z.

Pretty impressive, a no no in the books!

Minor League Ball 2009 MLB mock draft: (I know it's early)

To begin, I think that Washington will get the first overall pick, followed by Seattle, San Diego, San Francisco, and Cincinati. I uderstand that the order will change, and that is why I am ONLY going to predict these first five. Considering the fact that the Nats didn’t sign Crow, I believe that they will use their overall pick on another pitcher. Guess: Stephen StrasburgSeattle: I would think that the Mariners would go after a pitcher also at this point, although that could change. I also believe that they will watch their money. Remember, if they don’t sign Josh Fields, they get another first round pick. Guess: Darin Gorski#3: San Diego: The Padres need hitting, and I think that is the direction the management is thinking. A college bat is likely. Guess: Grant Green #4: San Francisco: No question that they need a batting leader, but it is a question if GM Brian Sabean will go in that direction. I say yes, but I have come across others who say no. Guess: Jonathan Singleton#5: Cincinnati: Tough one. Considering the fact that they lost Adam Dunn, but have Edison Valquez, I would have to say that by 2009, they would have gotten another strong hitter in the off season. However, Jay Bruce and Joey Votto have blossomed into the Red’s future. No team can have enough pitchers today, so I would head that way. Guess: Steve Fischback. So, overall, college players will be the main subject of round one, according to me.

Minor League Ball Mark Melancon-06 draftee

When the Yankees stole Melancon, a potential 1st rounder, in the 14th round, I was angry that the Giants didn't snag him that late. However, little did I know, injuries caused him to miss most of every season since he was drafted. I want to see the results of the poll, because my favorite draft was 2006, and it seemed (for the Giants) that only the Lincecum pick may have panned out. However, we don't know for sure. The Red Sox got the best draft that year----at least the most picks....
