One Bronco Nation Under God Boise State To MWC Interview

A proactive move by the Mountain West Conference may help fortify the BCS hopefuls against a raid from mega-conferences like the Pac 10 and Big 12.  A Monday board of directors meeting is expected to result in the MWC offering inclusion to Boise State University, and the Broncos are expected to accept.  Boise State’s powerhouse football program would add yet another top team to a conference which is already loaded with TCU, BYU and Utah.

619Sports in San Diego just posted an interview with SI.com writer Stewart Mandel who reported earlier this week that Boise State may be headed to the Mountain West Conference.

House Of Sparky CWS ASU Regional: USD Head Coach Interview

The Road to Omaha just got a lot tougher for the University of San Diego.  Monday morning’s NCAA Selection Show started off with a thud as 15th ranked USD, the WCC champions, were sent to Tempe, Arizona as the #2 seed against the #2 team in the nation.  The Arizona State Sun Devils (47-8) are one of three teams in the country considered to be a class above the rest.  Here is an interview USD Head Coach Rich Hill did with 619 Sports in San Diego where he talked about the going up against the Sun Devils, and what he took a way from the 15-0 & 11-6 losses to ASU earlier in the season.

Mountain West Connection SDSU Stumble Into Losers Bracket After Loss To Utah

Seemingly nothing has gone right for the 2010 San Diego State Aztecs.  Why would the opening round of the Mountain West Conference tournament be any different?  Head coach Tony Gwynn went with his ace starter in the tourney opener against Utah, only to see Addison Reed handed his first conference loss of the season in an error-filled 12-6 loss at Tony Gwynn Stadium.

Read more from 619 Sports and Aztecs announcer Craig Elsten in his 1st Round game recap.

Federal Baseball Should Nats let Strasburg pitch in SD this weekend?

619 Sports in San Diego just posted this insane open letter to Nats front office asking if Strasburg can open his big league career at Petco Park this weekend when the Nats play the Padres.  Yes he is San Diego native, yes he pitched at San Diego State, yes he is technically past the Super Two arbitration stage, and yes Petco is a pitchers park (and he has pitched there before while at San Diego State).....BUT, why would the team open him up on the road.  Hes a Washington National, not a San Diego Padre, so the DC fans should get 1st crack at him.  He will pitch in San Diego eventually. Here is the post

Mountain West Connection Interviews w/ Aztecs Coach Beth Burns & G Jene Morris after Sweet 16 birth

A tenacious defensive effort, a senior-spurred late run, and the heart of a team that has been tested time and time again.  It all came together for the SDSU women’s basketball program on Tuesday night as the 11th seeded Aztecs pulled off their second major upset of the Memphis Regional, advancing to Tennessee with a 64-55 win over 3rd seeded West Virginia. The Aztecs are traveling back late Tuesday night to San Diego on a chartered plane.  Before crossing through security, Aztecs Head Coach Beth Burns & Guard Jene Morris stopped to talk with 619 Sports about the team’s remarkable run.

Mountain West Connection Aztecs Football Kicked off w/ Red & Black Game

Aztec football returned to Montezuma Mesa on Saturday afternoon, in the annual Red & Black spring game.  The Aztec squad was divided in half and faced off in front of a crowd of 2,220 as the Black squad defeated the Red unit 10-7.  Although there was not much offense, the defense was in the spotlight all game long, and looks to be their strong point going into the 2010-11 season.  619 Sports reporter Jeff Creps caught up with Aztecs Head Coach Brady Hoke and Quarterback Ryan Lindley for some post game interviews and got their take on how this season will shake out.

Mountain West Connection Aztecs Recap following loss to #13 BYU (Story & Video)

For a school-and a city-constantly trying to come up with a sports tradition, the San Diego State Aztecs had a pretty good idea on Saturday night against 13th ranked BYU.  On “Blackout Saturday” at Viejas Arena, the 12,414 fans in attendance came dressed all in black. Then the SDSU mens’ basketball team came out on the court.  Dressed all in white.  It was the first bad sign for an Aztecs squad that came out backward, recovered, and then surrendered a 15-0 second-half run, succumbing to the Cougars 71-69.  Craig Elsten of 619 Sports was at the game, and took some great video of SDSU's Head Coach Steve Fisher during his post game press conference.

Mountain West Connection Aztecs Post Game Interviews following win over #15 Lobos

The San Diego State Aztecs picked up their biggest win of the 2009-2010 season, but it came at a heavy cost.  The Aztecs (12-3, 1-0 MWC) used a strong second half to bull their way past 15th ranked New Mexico 74-64 at Viejas Arena, on a night when junior forward Billy White was lost for at least the short term and perhaps much longer with a high ankle sprain.  619 Sports caught up with Aztecs Head Coach Steve Fisher, Forward Malcom Thomas & Point Guard D.J. Gay following the upset.

Crimson And Cream Machine Sooner RB Recruit Underperforms in CIF

Helix (San Diego, CA) Highlanders continued their late season heroics on Friday night, defeating Scripps Ranch 17-6.  Coming into the game, the spotlight was supposed to be on Scripps Ranch RB Brennan Clay, but the Oklahoma recruit had to fight and give it his all just to amass 73 yards on 23 carries, far below his usual productivity.  Clay has been hobbled by a bad ankle since injuring it in a game in late October against Lincoln High School.  619 Sports Jeff Creps spoke with Clay for a post game interview where he said he would not use the injury as an excuse, but he did admit that it affected the way he played.

Conquest Chronicles USC Recruit 6 TD's in CIF Playoffs

In the words of Dick Enberg..."Oh My".  Mission Bay (San Diego) Senior QB ( and USC bound) Dillon Baxter did everything to get his Bucs to the Division IV finals.  Mission Bay (12-0) stood on top by a 58-42 score over Santa Fe Christian, earning the Bucs a trip to Southwestern College next Saturday night to battle defending champ Valley Center for the D-IV title.  Baxter threw for 271 yards (13/16 passing) and two touchdowns, ran 32 times for 177 yards, three TDs and a pair of two-point conversions, and even caught a 27-yard touchdown pass.  For good measure, Baxter added an interception on defense.  619 Sports Craig Elsten caught up with Baxter following the game for a post game interview where Baxter spoke with about moving on in the CIF, and his hopes for next season as a Trojan.

Bruins Nation UCLA Recruit RB Jefferson Interview

Eastlake High School (San Diego) had to pull off a miraculous come from behind win to keep its undefeated status alive, as they beat Chula Vista High School 28-14 on Friday night.  The 2nd half come back was lead by the Eastlake's stand out running back, and a UCLA recruit, Tony Jefferson.  He finished the game with 28 carries for 176 yards and three TDs.  "Even with only 33 yards in the first half, Eastlake head coach John McFadden never lost faith in his stellar senior running back."  619 Sports reporter Kyle Englehart caught up with Jefferson following the game for a post game interview, where he talked about his great night on the field.

Bolts From The Blue Rivers Post Game Interview PHI vs. SD

619 Sports caught up Chargers Quarterback Philip Rivers for a post game interview where talked about the great win the against a good but injured NFC East Philadelphia Eagles.  Rivers spoke highly of his offensive line, and his wide receivers on how well they helped in keeping the Eagles out of their normal blitzing scheme.  He also disscussed how proud and happy he is to see Running Back LaDainian Tomlinson back in a groove, and feeling healthier than he has felt over the past few seasons.  A "Great team win" is how he described the overall feeling in the Chargers locker room.

Maize n Brew Future Wolverine WR in San Diego?

Although he was used as somewhat of a decoy, La Costa Canyon High School Wide Receiver Kenny Stills impressed last night in a huge win over Escondido High School 44-24.  Stills caught two passes for 75 yards and a Touchdown, and even though the heavily recruited and highly talented Wide Receiver had an "off night", he still made it about the team, and not about him. 619 Sports caught up with Stills for a post game interview where he talked about the game, his season, what his plans are for next year, and which schools he is considering.

Alligator Army Future Gator WR Impresses in Victory

La Costa Canyon (San Diego, CA) standout Wide Receiver Kenny Stills had a great game last night catching 9 balls for 131 yards in LCC's "gator" style win over Mission Hills 56-7.  The versatile and probable Florida Gator also lined up as a QB and threw a 29 yard TD, something that Coach Urban Meyer would have been giddy to see.  619 Sports Craig Elsten caught up with Stills for a post game interview where Kenny talked about the great win, how well the Mavericks offense seems to be running, and how he still feels he can improve before moving on to college football.

Conquest Chronicles USC Recruit Dillon Baxter 6 TD's

Mission Bay's (San Diego) High School QB, and USC recruit Dillon Baxter had six TD's in last nights football game against Point Loma HS.  "Whether running it up the gut or tossing quick bubble screens, Baxter was simply unstoppable.  He accounted for six of the seven total TD's scored by the Buccaneers and had over 300 all-purpose yards." Dillon shared some post game comments to 619 Sports Kyle Englehart, and sat down with Dave Palet earlier in the week for a one on one interview. Baxter talked about his Trojan future, what position Coach Pete Carroll will have him play, and how excited he is to graduate high school early and get on campus.

Silver Screen and Roll Luke Walton talking about Start of Training Camp

San Diego native Luke Walton talked about his off season, the Lamar Odom wedding he attended a few weeks back, Ron Artest coming into camp in good shape, and the team still feeling hungry to win another title.  Luke spoke to 619 Sports in San Diego about coming home once a year to play a preseason game in front of his hometown fans.  Interesting to hear his thoughts on how the new F rotation of himself Ron Artest, and Lamar Odom will work out this coming season.  He also mentions how difficult it was to loose one of his friends Trevor Ariza, but how the team must move on to try and win another ring. Bolts From The Blue Stadium Proposal in Oceanside/Escondido

So there have been a few articles, and TV news packages on Oceanside and Escondido teaming up for a new stadium.  Kind of an interesting concept with one city taking the stadium, and the other building hotels, new restaurants, to help make the project more attractive.  Special counsel to Chargers owner/president Dean Spanos, Mark Fabiani spoke openly about how this looks to be a somewhat promising new proposal to the Chargers stadium issues.  Fabiani on 619 Sports. Also talked about the growing tension between the Chargers and the San Diego Mayors Office and political posturing between the city of San Diego and city of Los Angeles.  Very interesting how he responded and his take on how the City of San Diego is dealing with Ed Roski building a stadium in The City of Industry.

Testudo Times Former Terp Chargers LB Merriman Speaks after Practice on Arrest

Kind of crazy media frenzy after chargers practice today.  As a joke all the LB's  made a circle wall surrounding Merriman as he walked off the field, kind of shielding him away from the media, but he eventually did get up to the podium.  Here is a link back to the audio of him, making his statement, and defending his right to have a private life.  Merriman Sound.  Merriman is def a good dude, but just has to understand who he associates with.  Does a ton in SD community to help kids, to the wild fire relief, hospital visits, you name it, he is a stand up dude. But his rookie holdout, steroid / PED suspension, last year not getting surgery before the season, being out the whole year, and then being a FOX Sports analyst, i guess really has rubbed GM AJ Smith the wrong way.

Former Ute, and current Chargers FS commented on the Chargers most recent distraction, OLB Shawne Merriman and his drunk GF Tila Tequila's citizens arrest early Sunday morning.  Also talked about the upcoming season, and the teams first game against the hated Raiders.  I'm sure he will be talking more when the Utes play the San Diego State Aztecs later on this year, but for now here he is on 619 Sports. Gaslamp Ball Heath Bell interview in AZ

Craig Elsten of 619 Sports.net sat down with Padres Closer Heath Bell earlier this afternoon.  Heath, candid as always, talked about the 10-game winning streak, Jake Peavy staying with the Padres, and a different side of Bud Black.  Bell also talked about how he and the rest of the team thrives from the lack of national coverage for the Padres or any other west coast team that doesn't have Manny.  Great stuff from him, and hopefully he gets a chance at another save tonight.  Check out this video interview with Padres Closer Heath Bel.  www.619sports.net

Gaslamp Ball Tony Gwynn Sr. Post Game Interview

Padres Hall of Famer Tony Gwynn talked about experiencing one of the most emotional days he has ever had.  It first started off by breaking the great news to his son, Tony Gwynn Jr., that he was coming home to play for the Padres.  Then, his Aztec team puts up 8 runs in the bottom of the 8th inning to beat rival Utah, 9-8 in the semi-final game of the Mountain West Conference Tournament.  What an emotional and unforgettable day for the Gwynn family.  The interview is up @ www.619sports.net/
