Hogs Haven Where's your cut off

Everyday we have the same posts for and against trading up for RGIII. Some are well written and argued, some are... well some are for lack of a better word LJP'esk.

This post is short and simple and I would prefer that that we keep that comments section bare (aka take your For or Against arguments to another thread)

Here is the scenario:
FA begins and the Redskins make a play for Manning but lose out to the Dolphins.
The redskins add two young and hungry and competitive Offensive linemen (No big name starters here just 26 Y/O back ups who have performed decently when needed)
The Combine is finished with RGIII showing that he is still fast as shit and an accurate passer, his interviews go well and we are approaching the draft.

What I want to know is where you draw your line, How much are you willing to give up at most to ensure RGIII becomes a redskin. We've all heard the arguments now lets see where the majority falls.

Just for a reference for those who want it the highly debated points chart is after the jump

Name your price, Whats the Most you would pay to get RGIII. This isn't about what the Rams would take, it's about what he's worth to you.

Hogs Haven Doom and Gloom

As painful as the last few weeks have been for us Skins fans, I'd like to point out a few things I'm excited not pissed off about.

Hankerson gets the Start! yeah yeah he probably wouldn't be if it weren't for Santana's injury. But common I know everyone was stoked when he caught that 2 point conversion. I'm not drinking the koolaid, I know it's gonna be a long and brutal finish to this years season, but every few weeks when we fall ass backwards into the redzone, I'll be cheering for a fade route to Hank the Tank.
Oh and one more thing, I dunno if it was just my tv malfunctioning but it looked as if Hankerson actually had some seperation on a few routes, Devin Thomas told me that Rookies weren't allowed to get seperation or run correct routes...

Checking up on the Check Down. John Beck... Damn you and your fantastic interviewing skills. I'm not saying Beck is good  decent better than Rex. But from 10 sacks last week to 1 this week, is that progression? No, I guess  not really, But! if he can keep the sack numbers down and lower the check downs from 14 to say somewhere around 7-8 this next week, I'd call that progression.

This is a rebuild, plain and simple, the first two picks of the draft last year were used on defense, the first two this year better be used on Offense. I hope we see Hankerson keep developing cause I would love to go 1st qb 2nd Gaurd.

Fantasy Hockey Scouts Net Minders on my Mind

I know week 1 isn't even over yet, but I like to be ahead of the curve on FA pick ups early in the season.

That said am I crazy to make this change:

Add: Al Montoya
Drop: Ondrej Pavelec

Scoring system:

Wins = +4
Saves = +0.1
GA = -1

As you can see Wins are very heavily favored, this is our first year in a points system and I was appalled when Vokoun scored positive points dispite giving up 5 goals on like 24 shots just because he got the win. we're gonna make GA -1.5 next year. Anyways what do you guys think I know i'm bailing on Pavelec early but I thought of him as a gamble in the draft.

Hogs Haven In an offseason of uncertainty, I find Solace in....

Reading about Dez Bryant being a moron

This is a short post, I just wanted to say last season when the Cowboys drafted Dez Bryant, I was a bit nervous, there’s no question the guys got mad skills and paired with Austin and R.Williams I thought they were going to have the most dominant receivers in the NFC East, or maybe in the whole NFC. Thank God those off the field issues weren't just rumors.

Whether its cussing out off duty police officers over fashion advice or stiffing some jewelers on a big tab, Dallas’s young star is certainly grabbing more headlines than TD passes, and as a Skins fan, I couldn’t be happier.

Hogs Haven It's not about Haynesworth It's about changing the culture of the team

Things people used to complain about:

Players coming here for a big pay check at the end of their careers
                * Mike Shanahan has changed that he has made it clear thru his handling of Haynesworth that this is not a team that will bow to players past performances. Like it or not, what Shanahan has done here is publicly state this is no longer a team that will pay you for what you have done. This is now a team that expects you to try just as hard as everyone else despite what your past accolades have shown. You want to play for the skins, we don't care, you want to work for the skins then we want you!

Drafting skill players instead of addressing the needs of our O’Line

                * Mike uses our number 4 pick, not on Dez Bryant or Jimmy Clausen or any other sexy pick. No, he goes out and gets Trent Williams “The SilverBack” an immensely talented LT who with some good coaching, his natural talent and a little luck to shy away from injury could become one of the most outstanding LT’s to play the game. Mike then goes on to use two more late round picks on Strong Safeties… NO wait that was the old regime Mike picks up two interior linemen with good size and speed in hopes to develop them into players that fit his system.

We don’t have a team we have a bunch of me guys who want to get paid and get stats.

                * Mike has shown again that you are responsible for how far you go in this organization. You train as a team, you practice as a team and you win as a team. No one is above the team no matter what you may have done in the past. If you don’t succeed in this organization it is because you tried to put yourself above the team, you thought you were too naturally talented to have to study the play book (DT) you thought you were too much of a beast to have to practice with your team mates (AH). Football is the ultimate team sport, it takes 11 men working in perfect unison to win games and the patriots prove that year after year, they don’t need Randy Moss who can sprint down the field (when he wants to) and out jump anyone for the ball, no they need Deon Branch to come in run routes downfield, over the middle or wherever the TEAM needs him to be.

Our Defense never gets turnovers and we’re not aggressive enough!

                * Mike implements the 3-4 an aggressive defense that while it does give up big plays it also makes them. No team transitions smoothly into the 3-4 because the personnel needs are so different. I don’t think we’ll see this defense return to greatness for at least another 2 years, I believe next year our defense will be in the low 20’s and the following year middle of the pack. But we will see an increase in turnovers and sacks each year and an increase in hard working D'linemen.  10 years of deterioration cannot be fixed in 1 year it probably can’t be fixed in 2 years but what we will see is improvement thru continuity.

Why do we keep trading away picks!

                * Okay this one may not be cut and dry. Mike gave up several picks for Donovan McNabb and Jamaal Brown. Both of these guys could be seen as busts if we parted ways with them today and stink of the old regime. But lets not forget that the old regime would have probably offered a 1 & 2 for Donovan not a 2 & 4 (as it looks to be) and the old regime probably would not have even tried to get a discount deal on a pro-bowl tackle in Jamaal Brown to keep the newly acquired QB in the upright position. Has it turned out well, No, Not yet. But lets not forget that we were dealing with a 4-12 team that has been devastated over the past ten years by poor drafting, poor trading and a lack of any kind of continuation of coaching staff. Give Mike another year to address the inside of the line. Give Jamaal another year of rehabbing that knee during the offseason, adjusting to the shift from left to right tackle and one more year of getting comfortable in the ZBS that did wonders in Denver.  Lets give Donovan the same benefit of the doubt we gave Campbell, Shakey O’line, new system and less than stellar receiving targets.

Over the past ten years we have seen Snyder run the franchise into the ground. Bruce and Mike are righting the ship, is it easy, hell no it’s a big F’ing mess. Are we going to see what they are doing, no good teams are run in secret (and the media hates this), this is a game and you never give away your strategy. Mike was dealt a shitty shitty hand and inherited a low chip stack. It’s not going to happen overnight. It starts this year by changing the culture and it continues by demanding discipline, accountability and an understanding that the team comes before everything else. We’re going to turn this thing around but it’s going to take time, don't buy into Snyders next media blitz "The future is now" "it's our time!" "A return to greatness". BS this mess is going to take more than a year or two to fix but what you should buy into is: "We're getting the right people on board" "We're working hard to improve" "We will be great if we stay the course".

I’m hoping that between this year and next we see improvements on both sides of the trenches. I’m hoping we see Donovan calling audibles often (a sign the coaching staff Mcnabb and the Line are on the same page) and I’m hoping to see less media firestorms on malcontents and more reporting on hard work and buying in.

Hogs Haven Brandon Banks to play tonight!

Lloyd: What do you think the chances are of a guy like you and a girl like me... ending up together?
Mary: Well, Lloyd, that's difficult to say. I mean, we don't really...
Lloyd: Hit me with it! Just give it to me straight! I came a long way just to see you, Mary. The least you can do is level with me. What are my chances?
Mary: Not good.
Lloyd: You mean, not good like one out of a hundred?
Mary: I'd say more like one out of a million.
[pause]
Lloyd: So you're telling me there's a chance... *YEAH!*

Although the  odds were stacked against the little guy, It sounds like he beat the odds and is good to go for tonights game.

Now i've had a few glasses of koolaid already this morning so i'm just gonna go ahead and pencil Banks in for one TD return and a few 40+ yarders.

Hogs Haven Friday Feel Good Fun

It seems like an eternity since the Washington redskins last stepped on the field led by Donovan McNabb Rex Grossman!? Our hearts collectively dropped as our fearless leader was benched for our biggest fear. We’ve spent the last two weeks in a depressive and sometimes hostile state with our team being scorched by the national media and our head coach seemingly fueling the fire.

Well the time has come and what’s done is done. This Monday night our Washington Redskins face off with the hated Pedophilia (sp?) Eagles.  So it’s time to forget about the turmoil this team has trudged thru since our loss to the Lions and let’s get ready for what is sure to be a hard hitting grudge match between the two storied franchises.

Hogs Haven Where Will Randy Land?

a few more hours to go,

but just for fun where do you think Moss will land? I for one would like to see him come here as a player not so much as a personalitly...

I think we would be the best fit atleast the best fit in position to get him.

From NFL.com for those of you who have trouble comming up with your own guess:

"The Miami Dolphins, Tennessee Titans, St. Louis Rams and Washington Redskins are four of the teams serious about claiming wide receiver Randy Moss off waivers, league sources told NFL Network insider Michael Lombardi on Wednesday.

Teams have until 4 p.m. ET Wednesday to make a waiver claim on Moss, whom the Minnesota Vikings waived Tuesday, less than a month after trading a third-round draft choice to the New England Patriots to re-acquire the six-time Pro Bowl selection."

Hogs Haven A little bright spot from an otherwise dark halloween

Well it's that time of year again, you know the time when the skins season starts to look bleak and the blog is flooded by all the Negative Nelly's that have been waiting to post until things turned sour...

I know the loss still stings and we can blame it on the refs or our O-line or whatever you want... Still doesn't change the fact that a Loss is a Loss and we said the same ad nauseum to the Detroit fans that listed themselves as 2-4 before the game.

But lets not forget about the tiny glimmer of hope we all saw on sunday.

So I read on the redskins blog yesterday that Orakpo has gotten his own web site up and running (not smoothly yet but it's on it's way) anyways i was looking around on the site and found this awesome poem, it probably would have rung more true had it not been for the offensive holding.... anyways here it is, i have no idea who the original poet was but props to them;

Can I get a hip hip hooray! Wait that was last years bs. Can I get a it’s great having an aggressive defense!

How much fun was it to watch the skins last night. I was excited the entire time; Offense, Defense & Special teams, unlike last year I was equally excited watching all three parts of the team looking like a professional football team.

Hogs Haven Hard Knocks

Did anyone watch HardKnocks last night? They showed some highlights from the Skins-Jets game. The two notables were Rex Ryan talking shit to Deangelo Hall, after a long run by LT and Hall along with two others had to play catch up for the tackle, Hall got pretty physical with him and Ryan said something to the effect of "You gotta tackle him before he passes the line of scimmage, thats why my brother cut your ass" Hall's response came a few plays later on the INT that was almost a pick six, now thats some sweet revenge.

They also showed a close up of the Artis Hicks vs Bart Scott scuffle, it was hard to make out what happened but Bart Scott was obviously pissed and screaming. Jammal Brown seemed to be the first one in to stick up for Hicks and although we didn't see it on Hard Knocks we all saw Trent Williams stick his head in the middle too. I really like that our O'line is sticking up for each other, it's so vital for that unit to be just that a unit and play as one group instead of five individuals.

Hogs Haven Unlikely Scenario but...

What if anything would you trade to the jets for disgruntled stud Cornerback Derrelle Revis?

I'd assume they would want a cornerback in return say Rogers and an X rd draft pick or another player?

I really like the way our defense is shaping up. So this is not me saying we need to give them everything and the kitchen sink as LJP would say...

But if the Jets were considering offers for him... Rogers and a future 3rd rounder would probably be my ceiling, the guys a beast but we can't afford to give up any more high draft picks, note I said Future 3rd rounder because we don't have one next year.

does anyone think he'd be worth Rogers and Cooley? (this would severely hurt our receiving options)

Can't wait for the game Friday, just a new debate topic to get us thru the boring afternoon...

Hogs Haven Free (agent) Plaxico

Plaxico is scheduled for release in the next month or so. Does anyone think the redskins should go after him?

He'll be 33 years old when he's released, but if Kelly gets cut, he could be the big receiver we need to stretch the field and leap over shorter corners.

He's probably not in football shape though he may have put on some muscle. I think he's worth a look and an incentive laden contract.

What do you guys think?

It seems Kev and Ken have decided Love (Kevin's at a wedding) and Property (Ken is dealing with some unexpected home problem) is more important than football! or atleast training camp... common guys everyone is down because of the whole Haynesworth debaucle but this is what we've been anticipating all offseason! I'm sure the bride and groom would understand if you rolled in a tv & laptop during the ceremony to give us updates on what's happening infact some of the guests would probably appreciate it!

for those of us stuck in the office without updates I thought i'd copy and paste some twitter updates to get the thread started and i'll update when I can.

Hogs Haven Haynesworth to start camp on second string team

http://www.nfl.com/news/story/09000d5d8195917d/article/haynesworth-softens-stance-dt-wont-practice-with-first-team?module=HP_headlines

according to the accociated press, even if Haynesworth passes his conditioning test and is ready to go tommorrow, he'll likely start with the second team...

All I can say is this will be a rude awakening for our second string O'line, hope Cook/Lichtenstieger/montgomery are ready for that.

I don't see this as a big deal I think Shanahan just doesn't wanna slow down the guys that  were here and are ready to go. He'll likely move up within a day or two if he tries and masters the verbiage quickly. what do you all think, how long will he practice with the second string?

Hogs Haven First Game of the season, who gets the first sack?

September 12th 2010 Our Perennial offseason champs take the field against the always pre season superbowl favorite Dallas Cowboys. My question for you is who's going to get the first sack;

Obvious favorites are Orakpo and Ware. When comparing the two I initially gave the better odds to Ware since we will have the rookie in at LT and very little time for the front five to really gel... but given some more thought, no video on our defense, the noise at fed ex and the probability that we will be running the ball alot I'm now falling into camp Orakpo for the first sack of the game and season.

Hogs Haven Position by Position Beast Reviews (Offense)

QB - Giants, Skins, CowboysEagles

I think this could be a big toss up, Donovan, Romo and Eli are all pretty close in my book, Donovan had the edge when he was in Philly but we will have to wait and see what he does in the knew system. I can see Kolb being either really great or really bad depending on his first few starts and how he deals with the "fans" up there in philly.

RB - Cowboys, Eagles, Giants, Skins

Hopefully a rejuvinated and motivated Portis can leave defenses bruised and tired by the time we get to the goal line Where LJ spells him and pounds it in the last few feet... but I don't see it yet... Giants could make a leap if Bradshaw stays healthy and Jacobs gets back to doing what he does best... Truck sticking everyone, save Fletcher, in his way. I really like the Eagles backfield in terms of talent but whether or not Reid lets them touch the ball is a different story.

O-Line - Eagles, Cowboys, Skins, Giants

I'm really hoping that this changes after seeing how our line adjusts to the new additions and new system but we won't know until the pads come on and maybe not until we see them in action a few games.

WR - Cowboys, Giants, Eagles, Skins

It seems to me that every team in the division is leaps and bounds above the Skins at WR, of course that could change if the young guns can step up under Shanahans tutelage and Donovans guidence. There's no Denying the Talent that the Cowboys have at WR, but we can cross our fingers that their ego's get too big and they start to self destruct. The Giants and Eagles are full of young talent like we are, however their guys have already stepped up or have continuously flashed greatness unlike our young talent which have flashed greatness twice Thomas against the Saints and Kelly on his one long catch where he was ru.... forget it you know what i'm talking about.

TE - Skins, Cowboys, Eagles, Giants

Although Witten is still the undisputed leader in the division, our tandem of TE's are going to be one of the brightest spots on this team, I think Kyle is going to get the most out of Cooley and Fred, I'm excited to see what Dennis Morris brings to the table as well. I envision him getting time in at FB and being an excellent check down target for Donovan.

Look forward to your guys predictions.

Hogs Haven Haynesworth, Haynesworth and more Haynesworth

I’ve stayed off this topic for sometime now, mainly cause  I didn’t want to post a bunch of curse words and spew hate… but I’ve given this some thought;

My first thought was get rid of him, if he doesn’t wanna play then get him outta here asap and give me the guy who’s gonna give 110% to the team.

My second thought was a little more spiteful, keep him on the roster, deactivated for game days and put him on IR as soon as he tries to skip practice with an “injury” and fine him every chance we get.

But here is my conclusion, as close to a Win Win situation as we are going to get.
Tell Albert that if he comes in now, keeps his mouth shut plays as hard as he can the rest of the season, then at the end of the season if he still wants out, we will get him a trade.
This way he keeps his money, he gets out of the 3-4 (albeit in a year) and hopefully we can get some value for him, if he truly gives it his all throughout the season and our defense dominates as we expect it to, we should be able to pull at least a 2nd rounder in the draft for him. 32

Million for two years of play and a second rounder is much easier to stomach than 32 Mil for one year and a big distraction for 3 more years.

Then explain the alternative (thought number 2).

Hogs Haven LJP announces his retirement from fandom

Just kidding, it's still just a rumor...

My McNabb thoughts - Like many of you i'm on the fence about this signing, I was really pulling for JC and wish him the best where ever he lands. As discussed in other fan posts this signing could be one of the greats ala Sonny J if everything goes right, or it could go down as one of the worst ala... every other big name we've gone after in the past 10 years...

But here is where I am excited, The way we pulled this signing off is like nothing we've seen in the past 10 years.

First off we weren't the highest bidder, no matter how you feel about McNabb a second rounder this year and conditional 4th/3rd next is a small price to pay for a qb of Donovan's credentials.

Secondly we didn't publically humiliate Jason Campbell whilst trying to get McNabb. The way this deal went down the Eagles resembled more of the Redskins of late than we did. They threw McNabb to the wolves, devalued him and which in turn allowed the him to force their hand as to where he was traded.

and Lastly I leave you with a hypothetical would you rather have Donovan McNabb for a 2nd & 3rd rounder as well as what ever we can get in return for Campbell or Jay Cutler for our first and second this year our first next year and Campbell...

Whether you Like or Dislike the trade I think we can all agree that the front office and coaching staff is moving in the right direction, I look forward to the Allen/Shannahan Era to come.

Hogs Haven Vote on Cribbs Scenario's

I'm listing a few trade scenario's that i think are possible to get Cribbs, i'm a little on the fence on this issue but my vote would be if we could trade Moss for Cribbs straight up I would do it.

-Cribbs is younger than moss
-Cribbs would offer a solution to our kick off and punt return woes
-I'd like to see what he can do in the slot but we have a surplus of receivers that can fill in if he's lacking MK DT MM Davis and Cooley

anyways here are a few options that I think the browns would consider vote on which you would do and justify (don't tell us cribbs is explosive everyone knows that) tell us how he would fit our schemes and why we can get by without the player traded

Hogs Haven I don't think they're naming a coach

In the Press conference at 2:30 there were some very encouraging things said, I will highlight on a few that I found particularly exciting:

On Jon Gruden and replacing Jim Zorn: "We don't have an opening at that position...Jim Zorn is our coach...give us some time to see our relationship develop."

Snyder: Bruce has the authority. When Bruce madkes the decision, it's a Redskins decision.

...

Snyder and Allen would not directly address reports about Mike Shanahan being the leading candidate for the head-coaching job; Snyder indicated that a decision about Zorn's future will be made by Allen.

This is Huge we now have a football guy in charge of football operations with what seems to be the full support of the owner!! Has Danny Boy finally gotten it?

Hogs Haven DAMNNN That Crackers' Got Ups

DAMN GANO

Our Special team duo of Hunter the Punter and Graham Cracker Gano look to be a pretty athletic pair. Could we possible see hunter throwing touch downs to Gano who hurtles a line backer on his way into the endzone??? Probably not but this picture is still pretty cool. Filler after the jump!!

Hogs Haven Jason Campbell is a Class Act

Just found these quotes from JC and this is why he is the guy we should build our team around;

Campbell was particularly adept on third downs. He completed 6-of-8 passes for 125 yards and two touchdowns. All six of his completions resulted in a first down or a touchdown.

“A lot of it was receivers being in the right place at the right time,” Campbell said. “That offensive line did a great job of picking up their stunts and blitzes, giving me an opportunity to see downfield. It was totally a group effort.”

After everything this organization put him through in the offseason, Zorn benching him in week 6, no contract offers from the FO and after having the best game of his career he chalks it up as a TEAM EFFORT. Football is the ultimate TEAM sport and Jason Campbell is a TEAM Player. Special treatment of individuals on a team destroys the team mentality *Cough Mr. Snyder Cough* sign him to a modest extention before the end of the season and cut the prima donna's and don't bring in any new ones.

Hogs Haven Friday Fandomonium

It’s Friday which means the week following our huge win over Denver is almost over, our game against Dallas is quickly approaching and it’s time for us to get the blatant homerism out of our system while we still can. Time to check your reasoning & logic at the door, strap on your rose tinted goggles and take the jump.

Hogs Haven A Twinkle of light in an otherwise dark season

A lot of posts have cast a dark shadow over the season, not without good reason, but I found something that makes me truly excited about watching the game this Sunday. I’m not talking about Denver losing its last two games or the skins offense showing potential in the second half, I’m talking about Marko Mitchell (hopefully) being rewarded for moving the chains twice last week.
