"I see that new "Welcome to the Madhouse" up there (looking up at the United Center signage)... I guess that must be referring tot he hockey team, huh?"
Phil Jackson, talking to reporters today, making fun of the Bulls suckage. (It was highly amusing actually.)

James Johnson Loses Weight?
The link doesn't have photos unfortunately, but I saw a quick segment on the news last night that showed a handful of Bulls players at a school event and I almost didn't recognize JJ. He looks like he slimmed down considerably since the last time he was photographed (a few months ago). He did also get a haircut, but I don't think that was it. We'll see in the coming days, but I have a feeling he dropped 10-20 lbs.
Thomas nominated for prestigious nat'l community service award
Have to give credit to Tyrus for all the community service volunteer work he's done for kids. He's really come a long way and I enjoy reading things like this. It's also nice to see him at all the Bulls off-season events (charity golf outing, Bulls Bball camp) and working out at the Berto all summer. Good stuff.
You can see the official website and vote for Tyrus here.
Derrick Rose (with Latasha, Brenda & Shanda Rose) volunteers for Chicago's Uncle Shack Food Pantry campaign.
Derrick got another tattoo... I think this is #10.
This is why the Bulls don't want Deng/Noah to play this summer...

Vote for Rose: Dream Team Rank 'Em
How would your Team USA look for 2010 and 2012, SportsNation? ESPN asks you to vote.
NOTE: The higher you rank Derrick, the more points he gets.
Bulls Re-Sign Hunter
[
UPDATE: Good stuff from Sham: Bulls have to waive Roberson, Nelson, and rescind the QO to Gray to stay under the tax.
From the FanShots. He's the highest paid coach on the team. But if his role is mainly to teach, why are we giving him a roster spot and getting even closer to the luxury tax? Who knows! I guess Lindsey Hunter is now a 'made guy'' in The Org. -ed.]
Whoop de doo.
D-w-y-a-n-e Wade
Let's get it straight, Flash's name is spelled DWYANE. Not Dewayne, not Dwayne, not Dwane, not even Dewayde! I think the first thing we can do in preparation for the summer of 2010 (besides praying) is to practice spelling his name correctly in our posts!
Today @ 11am, Bulls Introduce Rooks at Press Conference
CSN Chicago will air it live. Wonder what will replace all the Red Roses as the theme this year?
Prized Fighter: James Johnson
Nice article about JJ's background, his kick-boxing family, how he was "discovered", and the time he nearly kicked Chris Paul in the face. (Still don't know why he's a 22 yr old sophomore... anyone?)
Derrick Rose, Olympian 2012?
Sam Smith ponders Rose's chances to replace Kidd on the next Olympic team.
Really inaccurate mock-draft
I was just reading the Sun Times, looking for some report on the draft work-outs yesterday (can't find any, anywhere) and I came across a mock-draft from last week. Did you know that the Sun Times gets contributions from Dabullz.com? This mock draft is pretty off to me. I just think back to the days when I was a kid and everything I read in the Sports section was presumed to be accurate. Henderson at 22 and Hansborough at 25 seems dead wrong to me. Not to mention Holiday falling to 19...I wonder if Dabullz would make any changes to this mock today? If so, what would you change?
Bulls' Gordon not acting like free agent.
Small update on what BG's up to, 2 weeks before he hits the FA market.
Memphis' Dozier involed in SAT debacle
How long until CDR's true SAT score is revealed? Can't wait!
Meet Toney Douglas
Last week I was ecstatic when I read Chad Ford's Mock Draft that projected the Bulls would take Toney Douglas with the 26th pick in the 2009 draft. Now I know mocks this early in the process are rarely accurate, but since I've watched Douglas play almost every game of his Florida State career, I wanted to provide a little write up about why I think this would be a brilliant pick by the Bulls, if (BIG if) they keep the 26th pick.

That would have been a great time to have a timeout after that second missed free-throw.
- Jalen Rose on Doc Rivers failure to have an extra TO left at the end of a game. Sportscenter, 5/1/09
J.A. Adande is an idiot.
Proof, happening now in a live Chat:
Tom (Chicago): Stacey King has been talking a lot about how much trash talking Kevin Garnett is doing from the bench. I love the passion, don't get me wrong...but should KG be taunting the Bulls bench at nearly every time out? Shouldn't he realize he is wearing a suit?
J.A. Adande: That's part of this series. At this point could you imagine these games without KG cursing up a storm and mean-mugging on the bench?
And even worse:
Adam, Chicago, IL: I'm sure this will be a common question - but how can Robert Horry get suspended for the fowl on Nash a few years ago, and Rondo get away with not one, but TWO flagrants in two games and not get suspended? If the league decides they want the series to be "exciting" and not lose ratings, don't they set a pretty low standard for rule enforcement?
J.A. Adande: Rondo threw Hinrich away, not down, which I think makes a difference. If it's in the middle of the court it wouldn't have looked so bad. But they were near the sidelines so Hinrich hit the table...just not as dramatically as Nash did. I think the way things look has a huge impact on the way things are judged...
J.A. Adande: watching the Miller play at the end of game 5 again yesterday I was thinking, if that was LeBron his head probably doesn't even move, it's an and-one, and we don't have as much to talk about
Rondo called for Flagrant 2 Foul, then downgraded to F1
So I was at the game yesterday and sat right behind the scorer's table. I had a great view of the Hinrich-Rondo skirmish, and was in direct earshot of referee Joey Crawford as he came to Tommy Edwards and told him this exact quote:
"Flagrant TWO for Rondo, Technical Foul for Kirk Hinrich."
Then Crawford turned away and Edwards started to announce:
"Flagrant..."
And Crawford spun back to him and snapped:
"No, NO, NO! (inaudible- something like "not yet")."
Then Crawford proceeded to watch the tiny video screen (and it was tiny) of the replay and apparently downgraded the foul from a flagrant 2, to a flagrant 1.
I went home and watched the replay on Comcast SportsNet and you can actually hear and see this very conversation if you listen. Stacey and Funk are talking while they show it, but you can still hear it, exactly as I describe it above.
Seeing this dirty foul live and watching the action take place, I was absolutely positive Rondo swung and missed and therefore would be ejected.
And after watching this little punk commit TWO incredibly dirty fouls in the previous game, both requiring that the player on the receiving end get stitches in their face, how could they not throw him out for even the very act of grabbing Kirk and throwing him into the scorer's table!? How is that a "basketball move" Mr. David Stern? How was he "going for the ball" in that sequence?
After watching the replays and looking at the photographs (like the one above from the Chicago Tribune), I'm certain that what I saw with my own eyes should be evident to every fan, and every league official watching. Rondo commited a dirty, dangerous foul off the ball and out of bounds, and then he took a swing. Every NBA rule, and every precedent set by the recent flagrant fouls point to one singular truth. The NBA HAS TO SUSPEND HIM FOR GAME 7.

KG: A Profile in Courage
Saw this in a thread and said I'd add to fanshots. Nice recap video of all the complete bitchery KG has gotten himself into over the past few years.

Yahoo's Recount of Rondo's dirty foul
"Rajon Rondo never bothered to swing for the ball with Miller on the move, just a forearm to the face that crumpled him to the floor. Bulls coach Vinny Del Negro screamed for a flagrant foul, and Miller looked like a lost soul, wandering in a fog between the bench and the free-throw line, between consciousness and confusion."
Pax speaks from Boston on Waddle & Silvy
Good listen, some interesting admissions.
ESPN update on Bulls guard Ben Gordon:
"He has a strained left hamstring and officials are calling it day-to-day. Unless he's really bad I expect Gordon on the court in Game 5."And a link to KC's Full Court Press blog with a similar update, also stating that "the MRI results on Ben Gordon's injured left hamstring confirmed he has a strain. The test showed no unexpected damage."
Impending OUCH.
Bowden: NCAA penalty 'too stiff'

ESPN Predicts FSU will lose to Wisconsin
First, ESPN disrespects us on Sunday morning's Sportscenter by recapping our VICTORY over UNC by giving 7 of the segment's 8 highlights to the Tarheels.
Now on today's Sportscenter "expert" Doug Gottlieb predicts Wisconsin will take out the Noles in the first round of the tourney. They spent all morning breaking down every game, and they had no problem writing us off. They actually have Wisconsin going on to beat Xavier, too. Chalk board material Hamilton!
And if you asked yourself "who is this annoying little man Doug Gottlieb anyways?" I did a little googling and found some interesting tidbits:
- He was a PG from Cali who played 4 yrs of college bball, one for Notre Dame, some time at a Junior College, then 3 for Oklahoma State. He transferred from ND after he was found GUILTY OF CREDIT CARD FRAUD when he stole another student's credit card.
- His career at OSU can be summed up by saying he dished out some assists and didn't do much else. He was a career 36.8% FG shooter and 45.7% FT shooter (ouch).
- His senior year, he went a month without hitting a three-pointer, going 0-for-12 over that span. "I've never seen people not guard somebody the way they do me," he said.
Awesome.
SI Blog Says FSU assured themselves top-4 seed....
Was just on SI.com (since ESPN hasn't published much of anything yet for non-Insiders on the upcoming tourney). Thought this article, clearly written before the seeds were announced, was interesting.
Wade Divorce Drama
Bad publicity for DWade coming out of his ongoing divorce trial. Everyone knows he openly cheated on his wife for a long while before the split, but now it's getting dirty.
No Bosh Talk:
There have been consistent rumors that the Raptors have had talks with teams about trading Chris Bosh, but general manager Bryan Colangelo is vehemently denying such rumors.
"We have not had any discussions with regard to trading Chris Bosh," Colangelo said.
The latest rumors had Bosh going to the Bulls in a three-way trade that would have sent Amare Stoudemire to the Raptors.
"If I can be very clear here, there is no truth to that," Colangelo said.
[I'll take smash!'s word for it, and bump this as the 2/17 Amare Thread. -ed.]
The Suns really didn’t get anything close to the package they were looking for. They talked to several teams and didn’t really come close to that package. Everyone in the organization is hoping that the coaching change will be enough. Everyone is saying they’re going to stand pat with Amare.
