If confirmed, it'll be interesting to monitor him during the tournament. Panama faces the United States June 11.

Sounder At Heart Sigi told Hurculez Gomez to 'quit soccer'?

Interesting Sigi insight via Herculez Gomez/Adam Serrano twitter convo? Risking tabloid anecdote status, I know, but still caught my eye. For what it's worth:

Through his twitter account today, Herculez Gomez (@herculezg Pachuca, USMNT) takes beef with Sigi's comment on which side of the field Beckham's corner leading to the first Galaxy goal should have been taken from. Here's Sigi, from Joshua Mayers Seattle Times blog:

Well Beckham's very clever. He's actually too clever for the referees as well. ... On the one that they scored the first goal -- on the first corner -- the ball goes out on the other side of the field. The corner is supposed to be taken on that side of the field. Toledo, who's the referee, has to make sure it happens there. Beckham just picks up the ball and walks to the other side of the field. He's too clever for our own referees. Our referees needs to be more clever because the players are more clever than they are.

This remark seems to have sparked Gomez into a conversation with Adam Serrano (@adamserrano journalist) regarding Sigi and MLS playoffs. Gomez eventually, if I interpret correctly, implies that Sigi may at one point of time told him 'to quit soccer'. This possibly llustrates another dimension of Sigi mentalities....

Conversation after the jump.
