Bleeding Green Nation re-sign Q.

It seems these days that it's a foregone conclusion that he's already out the door. I, for one, think that this is a huge mistake. I'm aware that I'm not covering any new ground here, but can we really afford instability in an already unstable secondary? At this point, it's become apparent that we'll be seeing some new faces back there. I want someone who can QB the secondary without any dropoff. Let's take a quick look at who might be brought in to replace everyone's favorite unsung hero.

Dawan Landry: The guy who isn't Ed Reed. Though he's a step slow in coverage, he's made improvements from previous seasons. Extremely willing run defender/stout tackler that commands respect from tight ends and slot receivers. With Nate Allen's centerfield abilty to cover the back end, it could work.  One other aspect about Landry that bothers me is that he's not too far removed from a season ending neck injury. All in all, seems to me that signing Landry would be kind of like having Michael Lewis back on the roster.

Eric Weddle: Odds are, San Diego will most likely re-sign him. But assuming they don't......Weddle is a good all around safety with great football I.Q. He always seems to be around the football, and doesn't mind getting in there and doing the dirty work. He's fast, and is rarely late to where he needs to be on the field. I am, however, a little hesitant to let another safety from Iowa on to the roster.

Tanard Jackson-Before he was suspended the entire year for his 3rd steroid violation, he looked like a sure thing to make the pro bowl. The guy has turned in some awesome games at the FS position down in Tampa. But judging from what i know from his body of work, it doesn't seem like much of a stretch at all to plug him in at SS. Plus, with his experience at FS, he should be more than adequate in coverage. This shouldn't be too much of an issue, seeing as the eagles seem to view the safety position as a whole as interchangeable. One big drawback is that he's not allowed back until september 22nd, 2011. If someone can convince this guy to put down the juice, this could be a decent signing.

Roman Harper-See Dawan Landry. Good run supporter. Tackles with authority. A step slow. (as evidenced by Sam Bradford)He had a terrible game to end the season, but otherwise the Roman Harper/Malcolm Jenkins tandem looked pretty solid. He's also the clear cut recipient of snowhill82's Steve Martin award. Grey hair at 28? Brutal. Honestly, MIkell may be on the wrong side of 30. But his hair looks great. Just sayin.

Gerald Sensabaugh-Good cover guy, decent tackling ability. In the circus that was Dallas's secondary last year he still managed to pull down 5 picks. That being said....I don't know that i want him bringing that Dallas stench into our locker room. That shit could be contagious.

Atari Bigby-I've always been a fan, but he's just been injured too many times. The wind could blow, and he get a partial MCL tear. When he's healthy, he's an enforcer in the secondary. When he's not, he's done for the season. In a related note....Charlie Peprah is also a free agent. He came in after injuries to both Bigby and former BGN sweetheart Morgan Burnett and filled in adequately. More upside? He has big game experience after playing a part in Green Bays superbowl run.

Eric Smith-My personal favorite for the spot. He spent most of the year as a 3rd safety in New York. I've actually seen him play a good amount, and have always been baffled by why he isn't a starter for some other team. He has a nose for the ball, and if you think he can't hit....just ask Anquan Boldin. Even when he was forced to replace an injured Jim Leonhard,(after a shaky start) he found a way to make plays later in the game. He has the versatility to play both positions. He should also come relatively cheap.

Sean Considine-Sign this former All-World eagle and let the good times roll. Hell....He's so good, he can play FS and SS at the same time. Sorry, Nate Allen. You're done, son. With" Considine the great' on the the field, we only need 10 guys out there. Jacksonville really dropped the ball on this one.....

O.J. Atogwe- Nothing I can say that hasn't already been said.

In closing....are any of these guys really better than Q? I don't think so. If theres one guy, who leaves it out on the field, it's Mikell. I'm not one of these people who put him up there with Polamalu or Reed.......But if we're going to bring in talent from the draft to supplement our secondary, we need him here. The FO would be wise to give him the moderate amount of money he commands.

Bleeding Green Nation juan castillo? WTF is going on?

i roll out of bed, make some coffee....open up ye olde laptop and what do i see? this bullshit. you mean to tell me after all the interviews, this is what you came up with? why? that's like saying  "hey! i need to hammer down this nail over here! hand me a fucking wrench!"  maybe they know something we don't. i certainly hope so. things were looking up with the hiring of washburn. i'm even excited about howard mudd. definite upgrade over juan castillo.

what are his qualifications? he coached LB's in high school? he played LB in high school? just a couple of weeks ago we laughing off mike singletary as DC because he has no DC experience. what about all these secondary coaches we've been interviewing? you know, all the guys that have been coaching that side of the ball for a couple of years now? i just don't get it. i really hope this works out, but i'm not optimistic in the least.

my band just came out with their first full length c.d.  if you like obnoxious rock and roll, give us a shot. as i have made it free for my friends to download, i would like to extend the same offer to all my friends here at BGN.

Bleeding Green Nation wait a second.....

i like watching vick play. it's awesome. fun to watch. i get it. i'm not going to go on a tirade about how he slaps around dogs with full cans of paint, but this is a little ridiculous. you've been telling us for the last three weeks that kevin kolb is our starter. i'm not saying anything new here.......but it doesn't do wonders for kolb's confidence when another QB comes in every other play. 2 weeks later and you take away the keys? i personally think this is a horrible coaching decision.

more than anything else... if you say that's your guy, back him up. i can't help to think that this was a decision that was passed down. mike vick is winning. mike vick sells tickets. i guess it ends there. where's the fucking loyalty? i think kolb has every right to ask for a trade. sorry for the vitriol, but i'm calling bullshit.

Bleeding Green Nation first impressions

i really meant to post yesterday, but the reality of it is this.......by the middle of the 3rd quarter i was wallowing in a pit of booze and despair.  that's all over with, so lets get started.

the bad

kevin kolb-  i'm not sure if i should lay the blame directly at his feet, but there was definitely some bad decision making. if you're going to throw the ball to desean make sure he has some separation first. you can't expect him to fight for the ball with charles woodson and the nearest safety breathing down his throat. he's not randy moss or andre johnson. to me it seemed like a case of trying to do to much. throw the ball away. check it down. don't be a gunslinger. don't wear wranglers. in his defense, putting mike vick in on every other play can't do too much for his confidence. at least let him try and establish a rhythm.

special teams- i thought bobby april was supposed to whip these fuckers into shape. what's going on? jordy nelson isn't known for his blazing speed.  you can't just give aaron rodgers a short field every time you kick the ball their way. jared "battleship" lorenzen could of had a good day returning kicks against us yesterday.  another day like that and i will literally shit a brick.....check that.....i will crap an entire cinder block. kick and punt returns weren't exactly a bright spot either. which brings us to ellis hobbs.

ellis hobbs- who ever thought it was a good idea to make him our starting CB? get him out of here. he shouldn't be any higher than #4 on the depth chart. i'm not that high on joselio hanson, but i'm pretty sure we'd get more out of him. there's a lot of good #2 receivers out there and ellis hobbs won't be able to cover any of them. he literally just let greg jennings run right by him. more than any other time yesterday, my t.v. was in grave danger of having my foot put through it because of ellis hobbs. i don't care how good he is at returning kicks.

andy reid-so you're going to use your last time out at the 5 minute mark? why am i not surprised? i think they should hire someone specifically to call timeouts for andy. they should just take that power from him altogether. you wouldn't give a 6 year old a blowtorch would you? of course not. because it's just going to turn out bad. andy reid....stop being a retard and use your timeouts in the last 2 minutes. this is especially painful because we deal with this shit every year. how many times can you shoot yourself in the foot before you realize that it's bad for your health? also....that 4th and 1 call? what happened there? you got mike vick in superman mode and you just let marty call for a dive down the middle out of the shotgun?(or was it a draw? i was pretty sauced by this time) let's learn from this and move on. also.....putting jamaal jackson in the game was a horrible move. get your players ready to play before you feed them to the wolves.

brent celek-by my estimation, he's the most important piece of the puzzle when it comes to kolbs development. step it up. his blocking was sub-par and he missed some catches he could of made. yes, you caught the one pass in the midst of a sea of green and yellow. but i'm greedy and i  want more. i took you high in my pay league. don't make me regret it.

the good

mike vick- i'm not ready to hand him the starting job quite yet, but he looked pretty damn good. granted, avant and co. were making him look good on several of the passes. but he kind of had the mcnabb thing going on where either the receiver would get it, or no one would get it. he looked great running the ball(although i hate how he palms the ball with one hand when he runs. that's eventually going to bite him on the ass). he's definitely the best backup in the league. i'm glad to have him around. i wasn't crazy about the comments he made after the game. everyone wants to be a starter. it can go unsaid. but whatever. he was definitely the bright spot of the game for us. i just hope he didn't go beat a small dog with a shovel afterwards.

mike mcglynn- not great....but not all that shabby. it seemed like there were a couple of slightly off target snaps. all in all, it could of been much worse. it was a good heads up play catching the tipped pass as well. anyone could of grabbed that ball. for such a big guy, he's got some good hops. hopefully as the season progresses he'll get more comfortable with his role.

shady mccoy-he looks more comfortable catching the ball this year. i think we can all agree that he needs to focus on going north and south. that jitterbug shit is frustrating. nonetheless.....he did find the endzone. so i'm not going to look a gifthorse in the mouth. i expect to see him used a lot more in the screen game this year. i can definitely see a 700 yd rush 700 yd receiving type year for him. he just needs to focus on getting past the line of scrimmage.

jason avant-he missed a couple of catches, but i put that more on QB play. avant, you are a god amongst men.

stewart bradley-looked damn good before he got concussed and started flopping around like a trout.

nate allen-having a pick in your first game? sweet(it was a horribly thrown ball though) he was mixing it up. didn't seem to make a lot of mistakes. i do think he seemed a bit shy in run support, but beggars can't be choosers. he's billed as an oppurtunistic safety and i saw exactly that. i'll take it.

the ugly

leonard weaver- that was hard to watch. some people are saying that it might be career ending. it looked flat out bad. i literally had to cover my eyes when they showed the replay. my thoughts and prayers are with you. you'll be sorely missed. i really don't understand why they were giving him touches anyways. isn't that why we have mike bell?

clay matthews-just take a look at that cro-magnon looking motherfucker.(him and cushing) i would hate to run into him in a dark alley. he was beastly yesterday. this guy will terrorize offenses for years to come.

eldra buckley-those were some horrible mistakes you made out there, broseph. the faircatch interference? really? the facepalm was in full effect here in the snowhill household. thanks, eldra.

kevin kolb(madden 11)- in order to smooth out my horribly bruised ego, i decided to beat some wholesale ass on madden. i keep getting smacked by the realization that kevin kolb is hands down the ugliest player in the entire game. he looks like the lovechild of steve buscemi and lieutenant dan. every time i pick up the sticks, i wince at his ugly mug.

that's all i got. no word from the real,

snowhill82

Bleeding Green Nation alan faneca

the jets just released the dude. with nick cole moving to center, and max st. gilles having an off year, this would make sense. i don't have to tell anyone here how good faneca is, but he's been successful every where he's went. being as how we need kolb to stay off the ground as much as possible, we should make this move. the price tag may be a little high, but the guy has been to 9 probowls. if this were to happen i could see mccoy being a 1000+yd back.

Bleeding Green Nation snowhill82 says NO to earl thomas.

let me start out by saying, i'm a sucker for the hitting safety. i was a huge michael lewis fan, even in light of his inability to cover. he struck fear into the hearts of running backs and he could bring down any ballcarrier on the field. i'll never figure out how sean considine got on the field. lewis could be counted on to make a  stop whenever anyone got by the consumate all-pro, all universe mark simoneau.

which brings me to my point....with questions abound concerning the stability of the linebacking corps,(bradley's knee, fokou, incoming talent, etc, etc.) we need a guy who can come in and make the necessary stops
when our front 7 breaks down.  thomas is too shy at the line of scrimmage. maybe he can overcome that with a good training camp. the point was made in a post i just read about kyle wilson being able to tackle better than thomas, and i wholeheartedly agree with the assessment.

the next ed reed? probably not. and even if he is.....ed reed is hurt every year for 4 or 5 games. because he's small. his body isn't holding up to the punishment it receives. he even considered retirement at the end of last year. he's only 30. just something to think about. i really hope we don't trade up for thomas. it would be smarter just wait and get a corner at #24, take nate allen, the complete safety at #37.

all this being said, the idea of getting eric berry makes me want to throw rocks at the sky. i'm going to try and not be incredibly dissappointed tomorrow if he doesn't fall our way. for the record, i don't think the price is too high.  do the right thing, andy reid. i implore you.

                                                                                                                  no word from the real,

Bleeding Green Nation our secondary is officially shot.

sheldon brown for a 4th and 5th? i'm as happy as anyone to see gocong gone., but this is utterly ridiculous. someone tell me who's going to make a tackle now when a ball carrier gets past our elite corps of LB's? joselio hanson? ellis hobbs? maybe marlin jackson will make a couple before he tears his ACL. asante couldn't even tackle an egg mcmuffin on his morning commute. i understand the youth movement idea, but we even kept taylor/vincent around for a year after we drafted sheppard/brown so they could learn good habits from seasoned vets. who are the new corners going to glean new habits from? asante? fucking awesome. just what we need. a bunch of new corners that take plays off. i personally don't see nmandi coming here just based on his ludicrous asking price. i hope i'm wrong. one thing i do know is that regardless of how the draft unfolds, quintin mikell has his work cut out for him next year.

Bleeding Green Nation 8thTexan: Best new addition to BGN?

let me be the first to stoop to your level.

let me tell you about texas. your entire state smells like shit. it literally smells like a porta-potty on the second day of bonnaroo. i'm ashamed to live in a state that borders yours. i really like your claim of eagles fandom.....you have us all fooled with a moniker such as yours. bravo!  also....let me congratulate you on a job well done. you really put Bye Dawk:( in his place. i doubt his ego will survive the thrashing you gave it.

my guess is that you aren't a year over 14. it's cool. we were all that age once.  puberty is a strange time in a young man's life. especially  with a sexual persuasion such as yours. it's the 21'st century. people are much more accepting of it now then they were 20 or even 40 years ago. but there are rules. no need to project it on to an unsuspecting  eagles blog. it's kind of creepy. one more thing....the next time you are taking one of those magical showers in the boy's locker room of your middle school, keep your eyes down. no one likes a dong gazer, bro.

Bleeding Green Nation tony romo was my fantasy starter last week.

boy, did that suck. after all, he posted damn good numbers the week before. but low and behold when i need strong points to finish with a victory, what does he do? he sucked it up is what he did. 12 lousy points. probably my fault, i never take quarterbacks high. i took forte and steve slaton with my first 2 picks and that has turned out absolutely swell. never better, i tell you.    also...it gives me a strange and not entirely comfortable feeling to watch dallas games and pull for old tony. i doesn't feel right. my girlfriend gave me strange looks when she came in to see dallas on the flatscreen with me on the edge of my seat. i was all like " wait, it's not what it looks like."   go figure.

Bleeding Green Nation just a question....

as frivolous as this may seem, i'm going to go ahead and ask you guys...i bought madden when it came out. the first amendment i made to my roster was to put sean jones at FS. i  just finished handing a 41-20 beating to san diego. i have decided to use demps in my nickel packages and have found it to be an effective way to stop the run out of the nickel on 1st and 2nd. demps has 2 picks on the year, and is the 5th leading tackler. meanwhile jones has 3 picks and is the 3rd leading tackler. i would of put mikell at FS but he only has a speed of 82. so i have to work with what i got. but why wouldn't this approach work for real? you kill 2 birds with one stone. keep your 2 best safeties on the field, while giving demps valuable playing time. sounds like a lock to me.

also.....i'm on xbox live, my gamertag is snowhill82.  i was thinking we could get some online franchises going. let me know what you guys think.

Bleeding Green Nation which eagles-cowboys moment has irked jerry jones the most?

what i'm asking here is of all the times we've made the old man launch his glass of single malt scotch at the interior wall of his luxury box, which was the most bitter moment? 44-6? lito sheppard picking off drew bledsoe in the endzone a couple years back? what about when terrell owens developed a mean case of alligator arms in front of michael lewis in that same game?(one of my personal favorites.) michael irvin and his unfortunate accident? this may sound strange.....my #1 priority for the eagles every year is to trump the cowboys. #2 is a championship. as long as we keep them under our boot, i'm a happy guy.

Bleeding Green Nation if you were the front office/reid, what would you do next?

what would you do with all your draft picks? how would you package them to move up or trade? who would you take with your first 5 picks? if you want to trade, who would you trade for and why? some people want the big name reciever, others want tony gonzalez. who could come in contribute, realistically? i'm just interested to know how others would run this team right now, given the chance. i also wish t.o would of stayed in dallas. another year would of been fantastic. i can't stand the guy, but i loved seeing him in dallas's uniform, further galvanizing my hatred for that team.
